***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

my only issue is I was expecting regular updates.....

before people say 'you get one a month' Well yes but i want fixes not hats, add hats later!

Read a pretty good discussion on Reddit yesterday with Dean responding to another person quizing him about his project management methodology and why they were constantly adding new hats etc. Dont have the link to hand but should be fairly easy to find.

Core items I took out of it were.
  • Dean is contracted as the PM by BIS for this project.
  • They are using Agile / SCRUM for development.
  • The content creators are not core programmers and why not let them tick on and add more content if not having them add content would not speed up development of other parts of the project.
The Rezzed talk by Dean (youtube) also had some interesting things in it that may slowley draw me away from Epoch.

Why, when I speak to people, do they always tell me that the updates have sorted the low FPS in towns issue... I jump on and it's as crap as ever

This game blows horse ****. Like other developers they saw their chance to make millions and released a crappy Alpha for a game that's been promised for years. The Mod is better - what a joke!!

Uninstalled. I want my £20 back!!

lol I came in here to see if they Alpha has been updated much, guess I will exit the thread and come back in 3 months...

I've been playing this lots and since the update it should be called 'Berezino bloodbath'

Till they get the hunting stuff sorted i just go and get geared up on low pop server then log into high pop server and head for a PVP shootout in Berezino :)

It is in Alpha. It very clearly says "this game is in Alpha". It even tells you not to buy the game on the Steam page because it's in such an early stage of development.

DayZSteamPage said:
“DayZ Early Access is your chance to experience DayZ as it evolves throughout its development process. Be aware that our Early Access offer is a representation of our core pillars, and the framework we have created around them. It is a work in progress and therefore contains a variety of bugs. We strongly advise you not to buy and play the game at this stage unless you clearly understand what Early Access means and are interested in participating in the ongoing development cycle.”

It's always going to be an Alpha in "early stages of development"... It will never be the game that was promised and will never even reach a full release state. Some of us in this thread called it months ago and nothing that's happened since then has made it seem like we were wrong

Also it perfectly represents everything wrong with the Early Access system on Steam at present. What incentive is there for a developer to finish the game at all once the initial hype and sales have died down? They've made their millions now, they're covered against refunds because of the disclaimer and how the system works, would you assign your development staff to carry on working on DayZ SA when there's not really many people left to buy the game? Or would you tell them to just trickle down excuses and crap updates to try and save a little reputation while moving most of your devs onto the next new title?

I read a suggestion someone made that perhaps Early Access should work a little more like publishing a book - the Dev only receives a proportion (say 1/3) of their revenue for purchases whilst in early access, with the rest set aside. Then purchasers of the game can tick a box to vote whether they consider the game to be "finished" or in a state that they feel fulfills the promises of the game. Once a certain majority of users have agreed that the game meets its promises the rest of the money is released to the developer. In the event that development on the game dries up and it never reaches a finished state the money is used to partially re-imburse the Early Access purchasers.

The dev still gets a decent injection of cash up-front, but they are still incentivised to continue development and listen to the people who have bought into their idea. They certainly need to do something about the system as it's not great at present IMO

Yeap I made most of those come to Arma 3 breaking point with my constant arma 3 spamming :) and none of them has looked back once lol, not even DG :)

Same old bitter faces every time lol. Get over it, its just a video game. #1stworldproblems.

People out there homeless and starving to death and we have the same people whinging for 20 quid back because a game was exactly what was promised a mess of an Alpha that's going to need at least 12 months to get anywhere. That's if it gets anywhere. If not o well.

Why don't you start a online campaign :D

Well done for trying to take the moral high ground, now get down as you have no right to be up there. You're point is invalid, this forum is about PC games, no one has said Dayz is more important that homelessness and starvation. It's a forum for people to talk good and bad about games they care about.

It's not that - I never spent the 20 quid in the first place... as I felt the project was poorly led and expected it would never amount to anything ;)

I'm whinging because the state of Kickstarter/Early Access is getting out of hand and DayZ SA happens to exemplify the reasons why very well indeed...

Spot on, this paid alpha stuff needs reigning in.. there are a lot of good examples where stuff is regularly updated, then this.

To all the people who say 'they told you not to buy it', well you are half right.

PLEASE DO NOT PURCHASE IT UNLESS YOU WANT TO ACTIVELY SUPPORT DEVELOPMENT OF THE GAME

Well I did want to actively support it, so did 2 million other people, and virtually nothing has happened.

While I still have hope that DayZ will be worth playing some time in the future, it appears to getter more rather than less broken with each release at the moment.

If they ever get round to completing it they will just release it as DayZ SA 2, they are unaccountable due to the disclaimer, I would like my money back as I was falsely lead to believe this would be better than the mod.

Back in the old day this wouldn't have even been released as a demo!

Until gamers realise paid alphas, betas, early access and pre ordering in general are a very bad idea for themselves and stop doing it things like this are only going to get worse.

The thing is you can spot the disasters a mile off in most cases but sadly most gamers seem to have more money than sense.

I wouldn't say he was a fraud, the mod was pretty much revolutionary with the success it had so it made sense to at least attempt turn it into a standalone. I think they realised afterwards that the engine just isn't made for this sort of game despite their intentions thus the lack of progress. (not knocking the engine, take a look at some of the serious military sim groups about and what they have achieved with it)

I do agree with what has been said about alpha releases though, it allows developers to cover their arse and make incredible income from people buying into ideas rather than finished a product.
