***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

http://www.theregister.co.uk/2014/05/13/dayz_breach_questioned/

"Australia-based Asymmetric Security founder Kayne Naughton told The Register he warned Bohemia that its DayZ support server was at risk on 29 April, but has yet to receive a response. The publisher took the server offline soon after, we're told; it is still down at time of publication."

BI oh BI......*sigh*

This and also the news that Breaking Point is being attacked and hacked by the cheat developers makes me feel sad for the future of FPS gaming on the PC.

Not sure how accurate PC Gamers article was on cheats but looks like it is now big business. What can be done to stop these companies and the undesirables that do business with them? Surely technically what they are doing is illegal? They are hacking an online computer system and altering software... No different to a malicious hacker who hacks into business related systems to obtain confidential information? It's about time the software developers maybe with some help from the community took a stand against these shady people and put them out of business it at least make it more difficult for them to host websites and advertise their wares.

Yes it's illegal but think of the cost to go chasing these people. They don't have the money to throw at the problem

It could easily be stopped, maybe if BI took security seriously for once (Or looked into security at all?). My friend told them that Game-spy Amplification was still possible in A3 as it was back in A2. He never got a reply, or noticed...Then a few months down the line $able (Battleye Owner/Developer) told them, and they where soon to start fixing it. I think they need to take a long hard look at what the community is pointing out to them and maybe start look into what they are saying...obviously they DO NOT care about security, if they got told about this SQL Injection flaw by a community member. They let him exploit it and now they have to spend more money and time fixing it, rather then coming up with a (probably quicker) fix to begin with.

As my friend suggested when we where speaking about it....It relates a lot to the Streisand Effect.

I bought this the other day when it went on sale, it's weird to say that it's the most expensive game I've bought on Steam in a long time :D Played a few hours yesterday, but plan to play it over the summer holidays with some friends that picked it up too. Also my first Early Access game that I've willingly purchased. It's okay in it's current state from what I've seen so far, but the zombies/zeds, oh my. They take forever to take down with a good melee weapon in good condition also, but if they get one or two hits on you, bleeding. Even human players go down more easily :D

Online access only through ID scan with bans that vary from 6 months to some 2-3 years for ALL gaming platforms for players and some jail time for those who provide the hacks. :D

Oh well, never gonna happen.

head shots should be 1-2 hits mate

Do you want to gamble your profits on a potentially bottomless Black hole of lawyer fees bringing hacking kids to court across multiple countries?

It's not gambling its called protecting your assets and investments! I remember why I stopped posting in this thread....

I don't bother with melee weapons at the moment to be honest. Currently carrying around a fire axe, but I tend to use fists if I need to take a zombie out. Usually three hits to the head with fists knocks them down for good, I did punch one in the face today and it went down in the first hit for some reason.

The last two times I've played the game I've actually managed to kill people. Pulled off a ridiculous kill with a shotgun last weekend, I was easily 50 foot from a guy with a Mosin, I fired once expecting nothing to happen and he fell to his knees and was dead instantly

Today we took a trip to the NW airfield. All looked quiet and un-looted so me and my friend went in to the jail building and closed the front doors, checked the ground floor rooms and then checked the room upstairs. I walked out and looked down the stairs and I could see the bottom half of someones leg poking out from around the corner at the bottom of the stairs. Would've shot instantly, but I didn't know where my friend was at the time. We both sat at the top of the stairs, guy at the bottom peaked and we exchanged M4 bullets (no hits to me or him). Me and my friend sat at the top of the stairs for five minutes as we were generally in a better position anyway as the guy on the ground floor could be shot by us or someone coming in from outside. He must've moved around to go prone under the stairs and I saw him crawl out from under them and I took him out there and then.

My friend tried taking the guy's M4, but it had no attachments and you couldn't attach any to it. The gun also wouldn't fire despite being loaded with ammo, being pristine and the guy shooting me with it before hand so we don't know what was going on there.

Still a bit more successful than us both dying as soon as we see someone with a gun though :D

I went into a police station in some secluded town. After searching a room I saw someone standing behind me with an axe. I ran out into the street and two of them chased me, they must have saw me coming and waited. I managed to kill both of them with my fire axe after a while of circling :D They had quite a bit of gear which was useful since I had just spawned.

Don't be so sure of being safe just because you are upstairs! Many a time I've been in the same position and then got shot or axed from behind by someone who has logged out inside a building (or a server hopper).

Picked this up a while back and recently found time to give it a go.

From the pov of someone that enjoys risk based pvp (eve, darkfall.. even ultima online back in the day before EA cannibalized it) it has to be said the amount of fresh spawn camping going on is pretty damaging to this games rep

Between the bugs/glitches (fair game we get warned about this before anything else as the games still in development), the funky control system and actually learning the game itself folks have enough to contend with

Theres certainly potential for it to be something special, I just hope they don't make the mistake of taking too long to go about it

Interesting. Of the over 100hrs of time on DayZ I have never once come across a spawn camper. Which spawn in particular have you had this repeat experience with?

Maybe I should have been clearer. I haven't actually played it before, I bought it at Christmas, but I hadn't played DayZ, or ARMA3. I've played quite a bit of ARMA3 and Breaking Point now, so I decided to have another crack at DayZ on Friday and loved it. Nothing's changed recently as far as I know. :)
