***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Yup, you'd expect after 2-3 years progress would have been made.

It might have a new engine, but it's still far from playable and even further still for actually being something people want to play.

How can you say something like "it's still far from playable" when thousands of people play it every day and have a great time doing so!?!

Anyway...

Real nice those 4k still images.... now show me footage after more then a year thats not alpha and doesnt break me ****ing legs when i go down 3 steps or zombies being retarded. I couldnt care less but i payed for an alpha a long time ago. Game is still alpha stop defending this piece of ****

Its in Alpha.. a lot of things cant be fixed until the bigger updates come, why waste time fixing one thing to fix it in an overall update for it months later.

DayZ is being developed 'at the same time' as the engine (Enfusion) is being built.

The Enfusion engine is now in, and this is just the first iteration of it, next up in 0.61 will be the Eden Audio engine coming over from Arma 3. DayZ will start with gunshot sounds as Hicks has already stated at the RTX conference thing.

The clunky movement etc cant be fixed until the new player controller is pushed to Experimental/Stable. New player controller is being worked on with a whole load of new animations which we will probably see in 0.62/0.63 patch.

Some of you guys need to follow the development of DayZ SA instead of just playing it and saying its broken.. some games take 5 years or more to be developed, were in the middle of the Alpha stage, its gona be buggy etc.

And DayZ SA has been around since Dec 2013.. not 3-4 years ago.

DayZ SA is much better now than it ever has been, and will only get better. Whether or not the game turns out to how you want it to be is another matter entirely.. DayZ is supposed to be unforgiving, if you cant find food and water then you picks apples and berries or hunt animals.. i've eaten a lot of chicken in DayZ lately :)

Oh and btw, get your arses off the coast if you want to find loot, if you knew how the loot works, you wouldnt be staying on the coast ;)

you must remember many of us were playing dayz since the start of the project man i was even testing early builds :p

the thing is BI or whatever sister group they put together for dayz they handled its construction poorly.thats putting it politely.

its easy to hate.we all know that but.. many here put in thousands of hrs on the mod which was amazing fun.ran servers and played together.some of the best pc gaming moments i ever had was on the mod.

a project like this should have showed real promise by now. yet its still pretty buggy and sorry alpha dont wash.we not new to games. many understand the process of how they made and the stages they go through.

its a shame as it could be one of the best games ever for mp made.if some person with the right brain could get it finished and working.understood what most really want.

im still 50/50 on it even being finished.the recent additions have made it better fps wise but the majority of stupidity is still there even after 3 years of making this monstrosity :p

the concept was never hard to understand or even advanced.the mod was fine as it was it just needed polishing.instead they decided to add in growing pumpkins and crap like that :D

i do hope they do pull their heads out of their asses and get it finished and no bugs but it is the same people who make games like Arma which is forever bugs/performance issues.before you say its not same people they all same group and the games all share the same issues.

When my gaming rig comes in a few weeks this was 1 game I'm hyped to play

Am I stupid? Lol
Played the DayZ mod years ago when I had a crappy PC so know the basic gameplay etc

Dayz mod provided the best gaming experiences of my life and I have been gaming since 1979. I still play the mod for fun to this day. SA is getting there slowly, the performance is much better with the new renderer and I imagine it will get there eventually. They have developed it too slowly, I cannot see a massive influx of sales when it's completed. Regardless, dayz reshaped the gaming landscape and inspired countless other games in the survial genre.

If you are expecting the same gameplay as the mod, then you will be disappointed.

IMO, the Devs are not making the same game as the mod was, they are trying to develop a more survivalist game, and after spending too long going down dead ends (possibly due to the original leader  ), they are gradually rewriting the whole game piece by piece now.

DG may say that the stupidity is still there, but I believe they are working through removing a lot of the low level limitations of ARMA2 engine before they can then rewrite the stupidity. If they try to rewrite the stupiditiy now, then rewrite the engine like they have done recently after, the stupidity may reoccur due to the changes so they will have wasted more time.

I never got a chance to play the old mod long enough to get deep into sadly.

Already own Arma 3 on my steam account so defo playing that and I'll get the Battle Royale mod for that as looks fun.

This game is what stopped me from buying early access. The store page was nothing like the access game that was provided. I wouldn't touch anyone of the ARMA games because of this.

Its fine to say you know how long a game development period usually is, but this is a game 'engine' creation at the same time.. BI are counting on the Enfusion engine to build Arma 4 on.. the Arma 3 engine is just old now, even Arma 3 has a way too clunky player movement, getting stuck on steps, breaking legs walking on rocks etc.

Btw the Creative Director Brian Hicks used to work at M$.. hes only been at BI for 5 years.

Heres the latest status report if anyone wants to keep up to date with whats actually happening..

https://dayz.com/blog/status-report-19-jul-2016

I see the development process speeding up as they're now on DX11.

I do think they need a bigger Dev team considering how much money they've made already, even though the Arma 3 Devs do work with the DayZ Devs.

The new Eden audio engine, when completed, is gona be sweet knowing how good it is playing Battle Royale.

Thought I'd bump this thread.

0.61 is out on experimental and there are some real improvements, although as you'd expect still plenty to work on.

If anyone wants to enable this just go to Steam, right click on the game in your list and properties, then one of the tabs gives you the option to opt for beta and it will download. Just do reverse to put you back to current stable patch (0.60).

Some of the things I've noticed so far is the increased threat from zombies, e.g. firing off an unsuppressed weapon now alerts anything from 3-4 zombies to a whole hoard which makes looting towns and PVP a much bigger risk.

Vaulting/jumping works!

There are increased numbers of zombies in smaller towns and now zombies in/around farms and smaller buildings.

Zombies are able to be looted once dispatched of (not enabled in this latest experimental patch but I’ve seen this on early streams). Often you will find food, drink, clothing and I believe at times medical supplies, depending how close to a hospital you are.

Sound is vastly improved since adopting Eden – understatement! Gun sounds are great (Trumpet FTW). Pistols do sound very similar at the moment but of course knowing if you’re getting shot at by a Blaze/Mosin or a Sporter and from where/how far can make a difference to your tactics. Suppressed weapons, particularly pistols, are almost silent from 10mtrs away and only impacts are heard much further than that. There are, however, some real issues which are getting worked on, for example, in game VOIP is earbleedingly loud while footsteps and general player noise is quiet.

Given the increased level of risk in attracting hoards with gunfire, the game really does now rest quite heavily on finding a suppressed weapon and stealth. Even carrying duct tape and a water bottle for an improvised silencer for the likes of Mosin , SKS, CR527, AKM, AK-101, AK-74, AKS-74U, M4A1, AUG, Repeater, Trumpet, Sporter, LongHorn and more. Sadly still only one shot use typically but obviously enough to get the fully geared person you’d likely use it on!

Lighting and shadows is now absolutely brilliant. Light the flare you typically spawn with and it just looks epic – throw it in a house and it lights it up with no bleed through like with 0.60. Also at the moment the default on experimental servers is 45 minutes to 1 hours daytime and slightly longer for dusk/dawn/night. This really adds to the game, although the dark is a bit too dark (if that makes sense) and whether the idea is to use more head torches and chem lights I don’t know, I haven’t tried but presumably this will attract zombies in and of itself – whether this will lead to more server hopping I don’t know but I’m slowly warming to the idea. On that subject, I’ve heard rumours that 0.62 will also have winter season rather than the ‘forever summer’ Chenarus currently experiences.

Wolves. Lots of wolves! There are some great videos out there already on this which show players running away from a pack (3-5) and how they can flank players, drop back a bit or keep pace. Little buggy still but basically these are a real risk if you venture anywhere north or west of Chenarus.

I also read in a recent dev report that the DayZ devs have nabbed some Arma 3 devs to work on incorporating the Enfusion engine into DayZ which I have really high hopes for.

Not sure if anyone plays this but I tend to get a couple of hours in a night from 10pm GMT so happy to hook up if you like (boxman257731 on Steam).

I wish i could capture the feeling I had with the Arma 2 mod again. Nothing came close to replicating the fun I would have when there were nights where me and up to 10 friends would be on and often some form of madness would happen.

Hell, one night me and 2 other friends spent about 3 hours stalking this other group of 4 as they were stupidly talking over global text chat. Tried to follow them back to their base to steal all of their loot but another group had a fire fight and killed them. So we decided to snipe the attackers and cleared up all of their loot and a fully stocked SUV.

Just never felt that with the stand alone.

Funny this should be bumped. Me and a few friends have just restarted playing this.

It's actually not too bad now. Performance is loads better (Still not perfect, but that's ARMA i guess) and our group of 4 people have gone round and got fully geared with AKs and now terrorising passers by. We held a guy and gunpoint and robbed his gear and let him go. Then he tried to sneak back to pick up the things we had left, but we were still there waiting so we gunned him down.

Zombies are still rare and they're just a hindrance to the game really, haven't seen wolves either. Saw my first 2 vehicles yesterday, but we all agreed that they're too much effort to get going and they bring a lot of attention.

I've heard not to expect any massive updates till the new engine comes out which will be a while of course, because it doesn't make sense for the team to maintain updates for 2 engines.

Biggest problem we've been experiencing though is character status. 2 of us had food poisoning and even though our characters ate charcoal tabs we were still sick about 10 game hours later. Also been having issues with characters getting overheated and rain ruining your equipment ruins the pace of the game, you end up sat indoors for 10 minutes or so.

Just bought arma 2 and 3 a few weeks ago, really liking the play style and tried a few mods like DayZ and Exile, i'll give this standalone a go once i get a bit better, atm i seem to spend about 3 hours getting geared out then getting hit by a zombie and bleeding out.

Its great fun in the Dayz addon when you get a powerful sniper though and get tucked away in a little pile of rubble overlooking a busy area :)
