***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Just bought arma 2 and 3 a few weeks ago, really liking the play style and tried a few mods like DayZ and Exile, i'll give this standalone a go once i get a bit better, atm i seem to spend about 3 hours getting geared out then getting hit by a zombie and bleeding out.

Its great fun in the Dayz addon when you get a powerful sniper though and get tucked away in a little pile of rubble overlooking a busy area :)

Standalone is supposed to be played differently than A2 Dayz and A3 exile mods, there pretty much gear up kill anyone that isn't your friend, Standalone has evolved, and will continue to evolve away from that, sure you can still KOS and people will still do that no matter what, but the game is now about survival, from the elements, infection, decease zombies (an actual treat and pain in the arse!) and of course of players. It's getting to the point, after 3 years... where the game really is a great experience, the map really has an apocalyptic feel to it.

Funny this should be bumped. Me and a few friends have just restarted playing this.

It's actually not too bad now. Performance is loads better (Still not perfect, but that's ARMA i guess) and our group of 4 people have gone round and got fully geared with AKs and now terrorising passers by. We held a guy and gunpoint and robbed his gear and let him go. Then he tried to sneak back to pick up the things we had left, but we were still there waiting so we gunned him down.

Zombies are still rare and they're just a hindrance to the game really, haven't seen wolves either. Saw my first 2 vehicles yesterday, but we all agreed that they're too much effort to get going and they bring a lot of attention.

I've heard not to expect any massive updates till the new engine comes out which will be a while of course, because it doesn't make sense for the team to maintain updates for 2 engines.

Biggest problem we've been experiencing though is character status. 2 of us had food poisoning and even though our characters ate charcoal tabs we were still sick about 10 game hours later. Also been having issues with characters getting overheated and rain ruining your equipment ruins the pace of the game, you end up sat indoors for 10 minutes or so.

The new engine is out. Thats what the .60 update was :)

It isn't its more 'survivaly' because they made food harder to find.

Standalone, you might aswell kill noobs on sight because they might have food that will save you an hour of searching clothes.

Selling this as a 'great experience' should be taken with a pinch of salt. The engine is massively improved I'll give it that, but its exactly the same running simulator to find food and guns that it was when it came out.

Except now it isn't new and a good idea, its an old idea that's been in alpha for nearly 3 years, and apart from looking better still can't hold a light to the FREE mod.

That's your opinion and that's fine, your welcome to it. But is now uncomparable to the mod, you can compare A3 exile or A3 epoch to the mod as they are essentially death matches with little to no communication. Where as in Standalone now I have never seen so much player to player communication and strangers working together, for example, just the other night, I along with 4 strangers worked together to get a bus up and running, we all had guns and ammo and could have killed each other at anytime. And then spent the night looking for tents to set up camp, we also befriended another two fully geard guys along the way, with obvious caution (and handcuffs at 1st!). And yes I do believe this is far more 'survivaly'. Like is said your welcome to your opinion even though it's difficult to mine, maybe we play the game differently, after all that's what a sandbox game is all about, freedom.

And yes 3 years is reiduclously too long, I gave up hope on this game a year ago and ****ged it off on forums and deleted it..

when i played standalone last when they introduced the " big " patch for fps. it was just the same maybe its the players playing. i always kill or killed everyone i see yet you do see those who like to help each other.

every 3 or 4 months i check it out only to be dissapointed.

shame cause i know if it was made worth playing there would be a lot of us on here who would play again together or against :p and it would be great fun.

arma 3 mods arent as good as original dayz mod.

nothing like playing for days coming back to area you visited last week to find witcher was still in same bush.LOL.

Two nights ago I played DayZ SA on the experimental build and the frame rates were awful, with some huge dips in the towns. Not sure what they did to make it so bad as on the normal server after patch it was fine

In the Arma2 addon i found people dont always kill on sight, 3/4 people do but some are really nice, one guy completely geared me out in his base, but then 5 minutes later while helping another guy who was been overrun by zombies a guy sneaked up behind me and killed me and stole all the gear, in epoch and exile for arma 3 everyone ive seen so far has killed me on sight, not even a slight hesitation on them mods, especially if your unarmed, i see some people camping below spawn points shooting people right as they parachute in.

The Arma 2 addon was the most fun so far i played as not everyone ive seen has killled me :), for sumone whos a bit rubbish at FPS its handy when everyone aint trying to kill ya so i think the standalone might suit me a little more, especially if they get the graphics up to arma 3 standards.

Arma2 addon was amazing when it first came out, before they dicked about with it so much, and you didn't need everything - blood made your health go up, as did eating food, morphine fixed broken legs, bandages stopped bleeding. That was enough.

Last time I played there was all kinds of IV kits and blood testing kits. But I could never find anything to get them all working together. It's no fun.

Especially since the whole thing now seems to revolve around KOS. It never used to. Live and let live or help out survivors was more common, sure you ran the risk of someone you helped shooting you in the face, but more often than not they were grateful and even teamed up with you for a while.

I remember being in a group with Marker and some others, and it was the most intense gaming sessions ever.

Yeah, the stand alone is a massive disappointment compared to the original mod. Few friends bought the SA and asked what all the fuss was about.

I often changed between a hero or a bandit depending on my mood. Being the 'good guy' was fun and rewarding but there was also something satisfying about an organised attack on someone elses group. My friend sniped the driver of a car once and the rest of us all (4) had ghillie suits stood up out of the grass and ordered the other guys out of the car, took their weapons then drove off. Good times.

Also had an epic battle up the NWAF once which was great fun but I got killed :(

Thinking about it I have so many good stories based on the mod. My moment of shame was panicking when flying a helicopter once. I ended up doing a back flip and killing everyone on board as I crashed :D

I met up with Marker once and the Bar Steward shot me!

Loved the mod though, not given this SA a go for about two years.

dayz is a strange mistress, it always gets you back for more with these new updates.
I got chased by a pack of wolves near tisy military base, eventually they started fighting the hordes of zombies. Only through sheer number did the zombies win, it was insane. Tis a shame i didn't record it.

AH the good old days on DE4 server. Yup, probably the best gaming experience I have had in a group setting. Every minute you were in the server was intense.

Sorry Burrows :)

No idea how I and ak22 died last night to a bloke with a rake! I mean seriously, I had an axe and ak22 had a knife ffs. One hit and I was unconscious, he should've been bleeding badly :(

Let us not speak of that tragedy again.... :(

I tried playing it again the lack of ammo and constant hungry/thirst does my head in!
