***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Well given the amount of time this game has been out (its now been in Alpha for over 3 years!), the fact they are still working on texture, sounds and lighting enhancement is frankly amazing.

This is basic engine stuff that should have been addressed well before adding in new loot items and the like, also the sheer amount of bugs that still exist is also mind blowing again given that it was released in Dec 2013.

The game has so much promise, but its been totally ruined by lacklustre development, awful support, mediocre choices and no end date for the process.

THEY ARE DEVELOPING A NEW ENGINE!!!!!!!!!

Sorry for ‘shouting’ but although the devs communication has never been the best (terrible on many occasions) they have been consistently clear the whole way through that this will take time as the standalone game development changed part way and was not able to do what they intended so have been creating an entirely new engine which will form the basis for that gaming houses future games (Arma etc). Leading up to the release of 0.62 on experimental they appointed a new communications staff member who has been active in the community and things have really improved – when you think about it though, why would they invest in communications staff when the game was so far away from beta?

They have had to splice the old Arma engine and the new enfusion engine together at varying stages of development which has given rise to the huge headaches experienced but of course couldn’t pull the plug (temporarily) on the game as they want to continue supporting the community.

I get why people have given up with it but 0.62 is really very good patch but remember it isn't at the modding stage yet so they are not directly comparable - don't forget, DayZ mod was wrought with hackers which I've almost never come across on private servers, plus it hasn’t aged particularly well and almost nobody plays it these days.

The new update is far more than just grass moving. If someone hasn't played the game since 0.59 then it is a different game now. Inventory different, huge map changes, overall performance much better, PvP almost no dsync, z's running on new controller so much better, many of the annoying bugs have gone with most remaining to be resolved when new player controller comes in on 0.63, the map details are glorious with some of the nicest scenery out there. Little things such as being able to determine direction of fire, hearing the crack and/or fire of a gun (depending where you are, loot spawns), gun sway after running, gun mechanics/bullet drop are great and unlike many other games. It is a good game and very playable now.

The biggest issue some have with this is the intermittent crashes but it seems this is server side and mainly on 32-bit game so 64-bit best option (I've never had a crash since 0.62 and that's with 50-60 hours so far since going stable).

There can't be a Battle Royale mod for this until beta, when it can be modded but quite honestly since Player Unknown has his own standalone game (based on Unreal 4 engine) I highly doubt he will develop this for DayZ SA mod, particularly with the news it is coming to console. He may sell the rights but quite frankly I don’t see why he would want to dilute what he has worked on with his standalone.

I know it's been hugely frustrating the way this game has gone, but honestly, if you haven't played this since 0.59 or even never played it, if you like survival games this really is the daddy and is in a great place right now.

If someone wants a game with an ‘end game’ then a sandbox survival game isn’t for you.

See above, thats why its rubbish. This game was great when it was released but know not so good.
Why is it a load of rubbish?

In your opinion.

So they need a new engine, knew it and charged people for a broken Alpha anyway? Poor development.
Instead of developing the new engine heavily and communicating that, they drop in new hats and canary noises. Poor development.
The control system has had virtually no work at all, you don't feel connected to the player model at all and basic stuff is still missing such as a simple rebind system. Poor development.

And an update that was announced last Nov (a full 8 months ago) has highlights of:

  • Small improvements to satellite textures
  • Reworked ghillie (to be consistent with new tech)

Seriously? These are note worthy points that take 8 months to drop? If I took that type of stuff to my boss as the fruits of 8 months work I'd be out on my anus.

As I stated I have played 0.62 and it looks and performs a lot better, the game is still a bug ridden gash fest though of broken gameplay and I didnt say anything about an end game, as quoted its and end date that's needed.
What date they expect to exit Alpha, Beta and RC phases? These are basics of development phases still not made any clearer to the paying punter 3 years after people have dropped their hard earned on it.

I have a love hate relationship with this game, there's nothing that beats it for the pure tension and atmosphere, Miscreated comes close, although Miscreated does have a better map. But I do agree with you. Development has been painfully slow, but the fusion engine is mostly in now, the games does run great, the new audio tech from Arma3 is in too, AI path finding has improved and it does feel like a zombie survival game as they are a real threat now. The last few updates have given the developers the tools to go on and make the game we all were expecting 3 looong years ago. And despite all the bad publicity, the negativity, and 'forever early access DayZ' tag that always comes up, I actually think the devs are going to pull this off after all . And I have had my doubts, lots of them

the sad thing is we all if we honest hope they pull something out of this project.cant see it but no one can seem to make the mp zombie survival game we want.:(

Yep indeed because we know some of the great moments the Arma mod gave us and are hoping to get some of that back with the promise that this has. It aint going to happen though and the gaming world has moved faster than their development. Star Citizen & SQ42 will be out before this at the current run rate.

(ok that might be a bit of a leap!! :D)

I installed it again in Feb, I fell off a box and broke a leg then a zombie killed me from the floor below through the ceiling.

Uninstalled.

Literally crying with laughter right now

Saw the thread bump & mention of a big update, got a bit excited to find out that essentially; the grass now moves and it rains sideways.

Exactly how I feel about this thread - got all excited to find exactly what you just said!

BUT WE HAVE ALL THOSE HATS!!!!!

The last line of defence for their devs on Twitter. Don't forget the sweaters too.

Downloaded to try out the latest update , not played in years. Great to see it's still a mission entering building getting jammed in doorways. Also loot shouldn't be a mission to pickup, walking back and forth trying to highlight a piece of loot or pick something up. zzzzzz.
On the + note fps has dramatically increased for me.

yes i fully believe that once they cashed in on the project they got a bare min skeleton team to just drag out the process till it ends up with no one being bothered about it but big profits remain intact.

i did actually re download it to try and all i can say is its still broken.inventory system is still the same mess its always been and its had its time to progress it just hasnt.

its a shame as i still want to play a game in this genre that does it well with many on here and have lots of fun in mp like we did in the original mod.sadly that isnt going to happen with Dayz SA.

Amen to that

Funnily enough I sat and watched about 2 hours of videos from the DE4 server on YouTube the other night.

Something needs to be done to bring back that feeling.

From the off, DayZ SA should've been a simple unification of all the different files needed to play the mod, all compiled into a nice, small game. Of course some bug fixes too, and a big headline across the top when you start the game, saying...."INVENTED BY DEAN 'ROCKET the GOD' HALL"
