***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

I dont however the game developers do.
It seems that its beyond the realms of their ability to make the player feel like they are actually in full control and connected to the player model and simple tasks such as picking up loot or rebinding keys is a mammoth task that needs some serious effort. It actually more effort to pick something up in the game than it is in real life because if you are not in the 2mm squared that the game allows you to pick stuff up in then forget it.

Either that or the team responsible for such basics are busy designing a fresh and wide ranging set of fedora's to introduce, because....you know.....priorities and all of that.

I've never seen the issue with this - no real difference to A3. Take a game like PUBG or H1Z1, I find it way clunkier in animation, although PUBG is certainly smoother and better designed inventory.

They have put in the dev blogs about loot proximity being made easier. Not to sound like I'm defending the game all the time but I do think judgement should be reserved for Beta - if they can't sort out the basic bugs then, there is no hope the engine will be a worthy successor to establish games such as Arma 4.

I do agree trying to get something from the ground or wherever is a pain in the arse more often than not. I also don't like when they added that blur that blocks all sight when just pressing tab to check area for loot, which doesn't work at times.
Plenty of times I'd hit tab, but you have to face almost exact direction of the item for it to show up.
Not exactly "vicinity" ;)

That reminds me of The Long Dark. Funky game, permadeath etc. But, any time you try to loot a specific item on the ground, you have the tiniest of Trump hands (a small dot) that you have to get almost spot on the item.

Much better when looting crates etc though :D

After nearly 4 years i'm not with you on that one, I think its well within rights to judge it for what it is. It should never have been for sale if they planned it to take this long.

You need a knife and stand at the head of the chicken in order to cut it up, same with any animal you kill on DayZ.

It is a survival game and if things were too easy, what would be the challenge? Hyperthermia will set in if you don’t keep at least jogging, if not running. You can build a fire and all you need is a knife, go up to a tree (pine tree) and chop some branches, chop those up into sticks, then get two lots of bark and drag some sticks over the bark and ‘craft fireplace’ and do the same action with bark and ‘craft hand drill’. Best thing is to set fireplace in one of the houses with staircase on the side so you’re dry and not so obvious.

Were you on the coast when looting up? Always head in land, grab a compass and just head north east or even north. Loot table is such that better loot spawns inland.

Apples picking has changed in this patch and on average you will have 20% success in picking. It is an area many have issue with as obviously if you can see apples, you should be able to pick them but then if all one has to do is pick apples then it makes the survival aspect too easy.

Yup, it is pretty frustrating but the thing this game does that very few do is not having the character as just a throwaway life as with games such as BF1, CS or whatever. So much time could be spent looting up, getting into fights with other players, surviving wolf attacks or rain, swim to one of the Islands or zombie hoard. Things like chipping your leg or dying when falling off a seemingly short drop are things they will sort I'm sure but all hopes are now on the new player controller - if that isn't right then probably no hope for the game to bring back the fans of DayZ mod.

Games tend to make things harder artificially, not "realistically". This is one of them. Why to have chance to pick something up? It's either there or it isn't. This also reminds me of The Forest: catch a bird, but only get a couple of feathers. Why? Because (game) logic. :)

Anyway, Bohemia hasn't sorted out ArmA series for a long time and usually rely on the community to make their game whole - a bit like Bethesda :D

They could easily add something like "picked a rotten Apple" or remove Apples from the tree when over used.

The thing with the Apples though is similar to the stones.
I can stand on a beach that's clearly a stony beach (& some of them are clearly nothing but stones) yet when I click search, it says nothing found.
It's a stony beach, I can clearly see stones right there!
Running along the train tracks, which has a gazillion stones, yet you can't loot a single stone?
I know some devs like their rng (cough Fdev cough) but it goes to stupid levels at times.

I don't want easy (a large amount of the games I have are permadeath & I've even permadeathed MMOs before hehe), but I don't want "Oh **** orf!" level of stupid either ;)
I've spent hundreds of hours in DayZmod, even had two accounts (R.I.P. one of them .
Can't quite see that happening with DayZSA the way things are crawling along. :(

Sods law lol.
Couple days ago got an AK-47 (no ammo), an LZH 18 rifle in pristine condition with plenty of ammo, but it bugged & refuses to fire. Few Apples, Welders mask & all of this was around 3-5 miles from the coast &.....

Today's patch wipes all characters.

D'Oh!

Yea, take your point and completely agree. Perhaps if the messages came up as follows:

- Apple is not ripe (cannot be eaten)
- Apple is ripe
- Apple is rotten

- Stone is too small
- Stone is wrong type
- Stone has been found

I think a stone for a knife should be able to be found at the top of beaches, possibly around certain areas of the map (IRL you have stony beaches and sandy beaches so I think that's fair) and then possibly around more industrial or farm areas you should be able to find one as again, larger substrate would be easily found rather than in villages or towns.

I've always thought that once seasons have been brought in that apples would be seasonal. Once fishing in the sea is a thing again then food will be fairly plentiful there anyway, although bit of a risk being so exposed.

Latest hotfix yesterday has caused a few issues which is a shame, my mate that plays with a lower spec i3 is struggling to get it to work at all. On the plus side, you can now destroy vehicles with matches!

Bit annoying but there are some private servers that do regular persistence wipes. Once they have resolved stability issues and server performance (remembering until 0.63 they are still running two engines), I hope persistence will be much better.

Odd thing happened. My stubbornness kicked in & I tried DayZ again. Was running along train tracks when I looked down & it flashed up "Search for stones".
Not sure if it was there pre-patch & I'd just not hit right part of tracks or what though.

New char', running around like a mud 'un, when I glanced behind me & noticed something following me. Took a minute of watching to realise it was definitely a player.
Kept changing direction over next five minutes & when I stopped to watch & wave, they must've panicked & ran to the North.
Possibly because I had a pitch fork & shotgun on my back & a rifle with a scope in my hands.
I called out hi, they came & said hi & nothing else, so I dropped a compass for them.
2-3 minutes of them trying to pick it up via UI (you're right, it's bad) & I went on my merry way.

Good job they didn't try anything, had sod all bullets :D

You're right, I'd forgotten that about train tracks.

Interaction is my favourite part of the game - experienced some absolutely hilarious moments. I had one time when someone was so convinced I was a particular popular DayZ streamer that they clearly told their mates to get to this particular location and even though I insisted I wasn't that person they didn't believe me, started getting annoying as they thought I was recording for YouTube (which ironically I was); I eventually got my mate to get down and we took them all out as it became creepy as they were following me everywhere.

I've held up fully geared players before with a gun and no rounds. Actually, I've held up two people with no gun as I said my mate had his sights on them with his Blaze from a nearby hill. Tied them up, took what I wanted (including their shoes) and off I went!

Barely had any interaction in SA, mod I had loads & they do tend to have some funny results :D

When first tried SA, myself & two cronies (that I knew from other games) were heading North to the airfield, all three of us had guns & ammo to spare.
When we got there, we sat in a group of bushes looking over the area to see if anyone else was in the area, when after a couple of minutes there was a really loud gunshot.
One cronie cursed out loud in surprise, I was spinning mouse around to aim at whomever had creeped up close to us but couldn't see anyone. Then other cronie burst out laughing & apologised.
Dosey git had accidentally hit his LMB when grabbing his mouse lol.

P.S. What's your youtube?

It's a poor excuse for a game now with all the intricacies; the fun of the mod was mostly player interaction, not finding individual bullets to fill up a mag.

I'm OK with needing to keep your food and hydration levels up for a certain amount of realism effect, but not so OK with the lack of ammo and firearms.

Roll on modding so we can enjoy lots of military grade weapons, with super fast FPS, on a beautiful map. I know I know, it will end up with 'start with M107' type servers, but you only have to look how the mod went to see which type of servers lasted longest.

Are private servers allowed to increase loot levels to whatever they like?

I just gave this a proper go with a squad, and it does run way smoother and it's become quite good-looking in places. The fighting with zombies is improved, but they still glitch through walls and doors sometimes etc. The vehicles are improved, but the driving is extremely unpredictable, with big issues with driver rubber banding which can then translate into walking rubber banding if you were just driving a vehicle. Fix is to get out and roll around on the floor it seems, however it can return at random points.

I just logged back in having logged out whilst in a watch tower (this used to be an issue so I thought I'd try it again) and hey presto, it killed me. Could I have been sniped? Possibly, but it was a low pop UK server at around 2am. The chances of someone getting a shot off in the time it takes to log off are pretty damn slim. Earlier in the day I was thrown through a wall on the first floor of a house by a zombie, and fortunately only suffered a chipped leg, but it so easily could have been game over then and there. Spray painting a weapon will still glitch out the magazines unless you relog or have a spare to reload into. The glitched one will be invisible in your inventory but still taking up two slots until you relog and then it returns.

You can also get glitched views showing everything with no obstacles in place (i.e. you see players but no trees/buildings/anything in the way) so if you're in the right spot you basically have infinity view.

These are all game breaking bugs.

Was in game couple days ago, trying to do some farming plants, but found everything except water, so of course I had to leave. Finally found some & was stood in a shed for 1-2 minutes, when I heard the zombie scream. One had somehow picked up where I had been & not visible :(

Escaped in grey scale, wandering along a road some time later & found my first working car, wohoo! Took some time to realise you couldn't enter the car with something in your hand (not like humans have two or anything...). Got in, turned lights on, set off driving.

Got perhaps 5-10 feet away & game (or server) DC'd me.
Got back into game, was stood five feet from car, so ran over to it. Nope, it wouldn't let me in any of the doors, nor even open them, so just headed off on foot after a while.

Passed out due to being sick (nothing would heal me), so decided to wait to recover conciousness instead of the usual respawn.
18 minutes of reading a book until it popped up "You died" on screen.
Yep, just as I thought, black screen of unconsciousness is useless.

Anyone got recommend YT channels? I quite like Therunningmanz.

Also if anyone is getting on soon, I would be up for meets. I treat the game solely as survival and don't KOS.
