***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

Patched the game few days ago & thought "wtf, let's see what's been done".
Loaded game, definitely looks a bit better & smoother, sounds better (although the wind rushing just glitch/stops far too often). Rain seems to soak me, although it's barely visible more often than not.
One thing that made me quit in the past was that eating noise (playing Long Dark again & it's annoying there too). It seems slightly quieter than in the past, it's even quieter once I hit mute audio on keyboard :D.

Food though...
I was on a low pop server over four day period, never ran into anyone. Food is non-existent. I did find & kill a chicken, which then stood there whilst dead & I wasn't able to do anything with it.
Apparently, a starving man can't figure out how to use an axe (or hands) to rip the meat from its bones

"Oh look, an orchard of Apple trees with a myriad of Apples hanging from them" ~ *clicks search tree* "Nothing found!?"
"It's there, right in front of my eyes. I can see at least nine Apples!"
*drops dead of starvation & hypothermia*

Ah well, start again...
Spawn in a field miles from anywhere. 15 minutes of pressing W, enjoying the scenery whilst also getting soaking wet from invisible rain.
Oh look, a stream.
*falls two feet from wooden bridge (wooden board)*
"You are dead"

FuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuAlt F4.
Maybe some other time will try again.

I ploughed around 400hrs into when it first came out and had some amazing memories in the game. However for £20 that is spent i got my moneys worth. I dont think ill ever play it again though. Even if your killing clan members in a firefight, once they know were you are, they will just log out, go to empty server and logback in behind your location or from a good shooting position. Log back out and into original server and kill you..
The game i had great fun on but now in 2017 its ******** tbh

Don't think you can server hop any more, not too sure though.

I agree with this - when it first came out as SA I was on it, and into it for a long, long time, and only encouraged to play more with the knowledge assumption that it could only get better. But it never really did.

I went on after this latest patch and it certainly feels smoother, but looks very Miscreated-y now (the trailer for that with the fields of grass etc.). Those damn birds though! Talk about having piped sounds. Didn't give it much of a chance though as I was on that island off the SE coast and got bored finding bomber jackets in differing states of disrepair.

Single player Day Z standalone launched into Alpha in 2021, required £20 payment to access. Steam Workshop launched in 2025. Full game still not yet released, Game still in Alpha.

Huh, TIL.

"Someone on steam asked "Single player, Anyone know when? Or if?"

Got ready to see the nerd rage in the thread & got a surprise.

Another post stating about it too.

"Hicks said that a single-player feature for DayZ was in the works. This will allow gamers to play DayZ offline, and also allow modders to test out their custom content in local sessions. Speaking of mods, Hicks said DayZ will be fully embracing the Steam Workshop."

LMAO they can't even get the game to fully embrace a mouse and keyboard properly without even starting to talk about workshop content.

Never had problems with M&KB, apart from punching mid air because alt tabbed or something dumb.

Yeah, saw how old the second post was, but at least it's still getting talked about these days instead of being forgotten.
Could've been worse, could've had Dean Halls name on it, making it even older (& less likely) ;)

You need a knife and stand at the head of the chicken in order to cut it up, same with any animal you kill on DayZ.

It is a survival game and if things were too easy, what would be the challenge? Hyperthermia will set in if you don’t keep at least jogging, if not running. You can build a fire and all you need is a knife, go up to a tree (pine tree) and chop some branches, chop those up into sticks, then get two lots of bark and drag some sticks over the bark and ‘craft fireplace’ and do the same action with bark and ‘craft hand drill’. Best thing is to set fireplace in one of the houses with staircase on the side so you’re dry and not so obvious.

Were you on the coast when looting up? Always head in land, grab a compass and just head north east or even north. Loot table is such that better loot spawns inland.

Apples picking has changed in this patch and on average you will have 20% success in picking. It is an area many have issue with as obviously if you can see apples, you should be able to pick them but then if all one has to do is pick apples then it makes the survival aspect too easy.

Yup, it is pretty frustrating but the thing this game does that very few do is not having the character as just a throwaway life as with games such as BF1, CS or whatever. So much time could be spent looting up, getting into fights with other players, surviving wolf attacks or rain, swim to one of the Islands or zombie hoard. Things like chipping your leg or dying when falling off a seemingly short drop are things they will sort I'm sure but all hopes are now on the new player controller - if that isn't right then probably no hope for the game to bring back the fans of DayZ mod.

You have problems with M&KB?

I dont however the game developers do.
It seems that its beyond the realms of their ability to make the player feel like they are actually in full control and connected to the player model and simple tasks such as picking up loot or rebinding keys is a mammoth task that needs some serious effort. It actually more effort to pick something up in the game than it is in real life because if you are not in the 2mm squared that the game allows you to pick stuff up in then forget it.

Either that or the team responsible for such basics are busy designing a fresh and wide ranging set of fedora's to introduce, because....you know.....priorities and all of that.
