***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

I watched last night and I have to say, I do not "get it".

Looks like they are going for a MMO style, plays on a potato approach to increase sales. I understand the business reasons for that.

On a personal level, while I now play Arma 3, and knowing the advancements that brings, I will find it hard to go back to the Arma 2.5 + drugs engine or whatever it is.

I would have been interested in DayZ on ARMA 3 engine but as it stands (which I know is very early on), I do not understand where they are going.

I believe they should it kept it has a free dlc for Arma 3 to then use as a vehicle to shift more copies or Arma 3 and expand that community.

How many new players has Arma 2/3 received owing to people buying that game specifically for DayZ?

think at end of day deans had his payday with dayz bi now own that stuff and hell be like do this and that for contract and stuff.

its obviously going to become more streamlined commercial as does any other popular game. i myself think some of the querkyness of the actual mod and things not working as they should actually adds to the game.

for eg half of the fun you have with mates is random stuff going wrong like being smashed by random zombie through wall it shouldn't happen but it can cause much hilarity or some other bug it creates a unknown event which isnt rule set.

with a lot of this ironed out yeah sure it will run better and smoother and probably play better but a lot of the unknown will vanish.

as for arma 3 personally hate it at moment dont like what they have done to it over arma 2 but like arma 2 i never liked that at start so it is early development so ill let it mature a bit before i dive in fully and start playing it regular.

one thing that was great from the last video convo was about the maps he hinted at user based maps. hopefully namalsk taviana and such can be added in some sort of agreement later on and others to follow.

The unpredictability was part of the fun.

Some noob friend fumbling through their inventory and invariably dying while in one on one with a Zombie - lol.

Maybe too much polish will take away what made it shine?

Someone will come along (or already has) and make a DayZ mod for A3 then everyone will be happy lol :D

Already done and it is as buggy as hell :(

I do not see any real advancement in the E3 videos. Zombies hit you from 10 yards away, mechanics are slow and the inventory is nowhere near complete.

Sorry Goon but I am not convinced you'll be happy

Wasnt an early development of dayz standalone release onto A2?

Tbh i think the hype for this game died out at xmas time. Really good concept at the inital stage but after 3 months of running around surviving for nothing and spending 2 hours fixing a car wheel, only to be broken again on a tree! Ill wait for the reviews.

Going to be ages before we see a standalone Alpha, never mind a beta release.

Got a feeling that the standalone might have shot it's load and is missing the input that the mods are bringing..

nah .. they can take there time as long as its out this year in alpha what does it matter it will still sell regardless.

what people need to remember is there arent that many big games coming out soon.

some things i like in the video some i don't. tbh all i want standalone for is so admins cant track you live round the map which 99 percent do then claim they dont :p r give themselves all the gear whenever they want. worst thing in dayz and in my eyes worse than actually hacking cause you can do what you want whenever and no reprimand.

a hacker doing the same gets a global ban a admin gets nothing just cause hes private server.

The mod is a mess in my eyes. I need it to be like an mmo and locked down. Not jumping servers and mutiple characters with all the guns I want. Not watched the blog video yet.

I think for the first time I may have agreed with dgee, even if it is hard to decipher what he is saying.

I would if I could read what he said. At least hes stopped pretending hes part of the inner circle know and has inside info when he clearly doesn't. Its a start.

A capital letter, the odd comma and a structured sentence could be on the horizon.
