***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

No ones getting personal and a discussion regarding hosting and hosting tools is surely valid?. I personally feel though Dg is that your asking for the impossible, an admin tool thar prevents cheaters, aids hosts to find exploiters and yet gives the no information that they cant use to their benefit. I dont think thats possible.

it not easy but there must be a better way than current tools. as the tools havent been started yet peoples contributions from players and admins to make the right tools could end up with the best balance for both admins and players.

thats what im hoping it might not work but its worth a try for a fairer better game.

Ill put on the record now, we'll be running a private hive asap. It will be vanilla in every possible aspect and the only thing a donation will get you is a thank you.

I'm 28 if that helps the discussion, two days ago I celebrated that :-)

@GIBURROWS haha forgiven ;)

@86JR The problem with buying things in a game is people don't want to lose them.. its understandable but if thats the case, don't pay for things you can lose. You don't see poker players asking admins for their money back.

The 'scheme' we run is for base building materials, we offer some protection while they build but once the majority is done, that protection is gone and it doesn't last long to begin with. They have to store the materials themselves and if they get looted its tough. You take down their plotpole and remove their base... tough, thats what happens! We just ask you give them a breather to build up, then its down to themselves.. after all, these people are the reason why the server is still running.. a little respect is asked for thats all.

There's quite a simple way to stop hackers. Make the tools. Whitelist the hives at BI's end, and have a team of BI guys write the hacker tools. Most of the people who use them are skiddies, so implement a honeytrap into the tools. Then ban their steam ID's off the database. Sorted.

Ofcourse BI will never do this though.

Yeah there is no issue with that scheme :)

However having one where you can buy a helicopter, and only that guy is allowed to use or destroy the helicopter is just asking for problems!

Oh, I realized that Rocket is going down the complete-tool route. Restricting almost everything to sysadmins...

"Here is your server sir, you cannot control anything that goes on in your server, you just pay to think you own it"

You can ban people through CPANEL via IP address, or through remote desktop, depending on your server setup. So at least that is one thing you can do!

I'm all for the honey trap idea to haha. Some detection methods and solutions make carebears cry too much though :/

I agree, if you buy something in a game like this be prepared to lose it to someone better/luckier than you, if something is unlootable for one person, all players should have the FREE ability to gain the same thing. Problem is you need to know you lost it legitly.

You have to understand that not everyone has the ability to grind away days at a time or put dedicated time into something.. for example, we run a whitelist during admin sleeping times 0300-0900 every day to prevent the server being nuked but that means it excludes some people from playing, so we have a few ways to get whitelisted.. one is be a regular for a week during non white list times (free), someone vouch for you (free), post 20 non spam like posts on the forum (free and encourages discussion on the forum so helps us! We don't run an advert scheme so it doesn't help us financially) or donate a quid or more.. (not free ofc but suits players who dont like forums or cant play ect which helps us keep the server running).. I think in games you've paid for, paying again should be a last resort/situational.

I hate games / ingame shops where things cannot be earned for free though.. so starting loadouts have to be very basic and tbh for me, I'd not even include a map.. everything would have to be consumable and not overpowered.. a pistol at the most for example for something non consumable, maybe even just a melee weapon, something in the mods you find pretty much in the first few buildings you enter... has to be decided game specifically and not game breaking of course.. like starting with a T-90

As for the base building 'perk' everything in the box can be earned for free by anyone, the only thing you cannot earn is the protection while doing your initial build.. if that protection didn't exist, they'd be camped immediately and no-one would donate for this reason and we have a massive 'guidelines' thread that expressly says "don't donate unless you understand that you can do this all for free".. if you agree, get some defences up and then its your job to defend!

Anyway, that was off topic.

Back on topic, if we have to pay for our own servers.. we should be able to run them how we like unless of course when we buy a server we are gifted with a good admin team to run them to.. DayZ servers are something you need to be able to fully control or trust the people who control them, to fix your problems

At the end of the day if you as a player don't like the way the server is run you have three options.

1. Play somewhere else.

2. Don't play at all.

3. Play on the server and put up with it.

4. Buy your own server.

I prefer number 1.

I just hope when SA is on full release stage I can find somewhere where admin do not abuse the tools.

As for the tools, I agree they are needed. But trust is needed more. And admin tools don't help favor trust. For example myself and some others have been on the servers teamspeak, hunting a clan that is in a locked channel. Set ourselves up to ambush. Noticed an admin move himself into that clans channel...suddenly our ambush party gets ambushed by the people we were stalking...all very conspicuous and very conveineintly timed.

Once something like this happens it makes you question other things, like that vehicle that "vanished" in a 5 minute timeframe and was found in another clans base the next day...

It is all about trust and once an admin breaks that trust, it really is best to move on.

I will make it my new home. I played on your server every night during my Badcompany 2 days. Nice bloke and a great bunch on the server back then...

Yes but it was kept very hush hush and months of denial!

Eh? It was public knowledge on the same day Toejam banned him and I know because it was our lot (as DG would say) that Jewish cheated against.

Speaking of DG,he doesn't half sound bitter and buttock hurt when it comes to Admins and tools. IMO the game is boring after the first few months of surviving and thus would need admins to tweak their own servers to make them more interesting.

marker there is a guy called [RP] Nux hes either glitching on purpose but hes in a unreachable builing trying to kill people ;)

If you have the power to scan Marker's server for admin tools, surely you have the power to kick this guy yourself? ;)
