***Dayz: Stand Alone Thread***

right im a bit of a noob and im confused about something...ive found myself in what seems like a hospital and came across a few cans and some rice, kiwi and some oranges.

whenever i try to pick a can up to drink it it says its empty even though when i check by pressing tab it says theres a full can in the vicinity. also are there drug addicts in the game?? what are the syringes for??.

I don't know if there is an aimbot with god mode out yet

Ive been keeping an eye on a couple of the popular hacking forums too see if theres anything I/we should be worried about, the only things I've found so far is ESP and what appears to be a really long-winded and complicated way of teleporting. Nothing on godmode or aimbot yet, which is why I was a bit sceptical about toejams video. I could be wrong though, I haven't really studied this in depth.

Bought this and played a couple of hours, really fun so far but have encountered a few bugs but that's obviously to be expected at this moment.

The standout thing that annoyed me the most was not being able to turn off mouse acceleration, the x-axis had negative acceleration for me (not sure if everyone is encountering this) so basically any twitch movements slows down the turning of the camera and to turn normally I have to move the mouse very slowly. Hope this gets fixed soon.

this game hates me... i spawned by some church thing with gold on the roof.....people say theres not many zombies, well go there i spawned by 6 of the ******* tried to loose them running through barnes and ive never seen more loot in my life loads of clothes about 7 helmets 3 bottles 2 canteens a gun with no ammo looked like a old world war 1 gun cant remember the name finding it so hard get started im playing on the ocuk server and before i started my new life i got chased by 3 people all i had was gloves on lol

You found people away from balota? Weird

Yeah found someone in kamehka i think its called he was a new spawn i think he tried to kill me using a bat, I was going to leave him until he tried that so battered him with my axe.

Just found a air strip got loads of look got a handgun a rifle big back pack tin opener loads of parts for the m4 but saw two people so hid in the trees til they went....next minute I get killed there must have been more of them working together :( love and hate this game starting to annoy me but I cant keep off it.

Just been into my garage to get some coal, saw a splitting axe propped against the wall.
I then had a strong urge to pick it up and carry it with me.
Am I playing DayZ too much? :D

This might just be the cynic in me but I've still not picked up the standalone and can't convince myself £20 is worth it at this stage... But based on the numerous gameplay videos I can't help but wonder:

What assurances do any of you actually have that the game will ever get to a stage where it resembles a polished experience?

All the time I played the mod and chatted to people about the standalone all anyone would ever say was how it would tackle all the problems and glitches the mod had. I understand it's in Alpha at the moment but it all just feels like a convenient excuse to capitalise on the existing communities love for the existing mod. Rather than pick over everything there is one thing that stands out for me:

Everyone knows how the melee combat was weird (in the mod) - you know how you're technically firing a super short range gun because Arma has no melee weapons. This was one of the things people would often cite as the type of thing that the standalone would address - "They're building it from the ground up with the standalone to get around the hard limitations of the Arma engine" they'd say... Well perhaps it was naive of me but this made me expect they might be implementing it in either a more suitable engine or their own engine, or a heavily tweaked version of the Arma engine, but that doesn't seem to be the case (from what I've seen). But that's okay because it's Alpha - so as it progresses they will somehow overcome the hard limits of the engine which they were never able to with the mod?

A pal of mine who already picked up the standalone cautions me when I said I might pick it up later in a sale - "based on what I've heard the price will only go upwards from this point"... This is all just starting to sound like tactics to get as many people to buy as possible on good faith, no? Does anybody get what I mean?

i made a similar post when the standalone first came out, ive bought it because im hoping that teh developers will come through on their promises.

But much like you have said i know that they are under no obligation to "finish" the game, they already have a ton of sales at £20 each and im pretty sure rocket is already a wealthy man so money is not likely to be his sole objective.

Its one of the reasons that this whole buying into an alpha/beta still leaves a bit of a bad taste for me.

In its current state i certainly wouldnt recommend SA to anyone, but it wont get any cheaper than this so if you do intend to get the game eventually, and can appreciate that its a bit of a mess atm then go for it

Why won't it get cheaper? Name 10 games which have increased in price consistently in that way? Heck name 5... I can only think of 1 off the top of my head - minecraft, and even then it didn't start at £20 in the first place...

(If you can indeed name multiple games that have executed this business model than I will humbly admit my foolishness!!!)

I doubt it ever will it will always be ongoing.

Right now it has the exact same glitches and some new ones...

Hmm tbh I find the melee combat pretty good so far, defo a step up.

The price is a god damn joke, should be £15 and down to at least £10 in a sale 2-3 months later. But I still enjoy the game although everyone server hops the barracks for stuff they can't even store anywhere the saddo's
