DCS: A-10C Warthog (first screens!)

I got this a few days ago. I've worked my way through the navigation training and started weapons training. Absolutely brilliant game. I can see TrackIR being my next purchase :D

lol how much.

That is an insane price for a stick! I guess if you're into your flight sims though...

My Saitek CyborgX has treated me well. I'm surprised how response it is to the smallest of movements. Not bad at all considering its price.

Great game , pity about the multiplayer DRM

Having a constant connection to their master server is a pain , if
your connection glitches for a second boom you kicked out of the game :(

Check out Freetrack and FacetrackNoIR as other alternatives to Track IR

It is no different to any other Multiplayer Internet game.

Err , yes it is

There is a big difference between login to a game service to validate yourself
and then download a list of hosted servers and then connect to a game ....

and

Login to a game service to validate yourself and then download a list of hosted servers and then connect to a game .... then keep a heart beat ping to the master server EVERY 30 seconds and if you miss a beat your game exits.

Surely even Stevie Wonder could see the difference between these two methods

well i did end up getting the game, did a few training missions yadayada. Pretty solid i must admit.
cant remember anything though haha and still cant land the plane as sometimes the guy speaks way to fast or the game just doesnt recognise my position.

runs ok aswell, 30fps give or take which is fine for these type of games. wish i had my x52 still :( tried to hook up my 360 pad to at least have some degree of analog control over keyboard but the game crashes as soon as i try and configure a button :(

Funny you should mention that. I wasn't aware such programs existed but it did occur to me that this might be possible. I think I'll pop into town to buy a webcam to try it out :) Thanks for the heads-up.

How much should I be looking to spend for acceptable results?

Uh wait a minute....30 seconds, where did you get that? The timeout to the game server you are connecting to is about one third the timeout to the Master server (IIRC). So if your internet "Glitches" you are going to lose connection to the game server you were on, first, every time.

I seem to remember unsigned drivers for the XBOX controller throwing a spanner in the works for some people before - perhaps try another driver?

I couldn't say, I suppose get one that can handle a high framerate (60fps)? I have a Track IR myself, I've not used a webcam so I don't know if it is better or worse.

30 seconds , it is how long the server will run for before crashing out if it cannot connect to the master server, try it out yourself. (30 second timeout if heart beat not working, before ending game)

Start a server up load mission , begin game , disable Nic pull cable etc
30 secs later game craps out.

Of course the obvious thing that the fanbois seem blind to

If their master server goes down , no one at all can play , even if they want to use direct IP connection to their mates.

Of course if they used the olde way that black shark is set-up then at least
if their end goes down (master server) people can still play the game they paid for.

Not True - try it yourself.

Regardless of who's right or wrong there's an extremely short timeout period, which I have issues with because the game rarely, but annoyingly locks up for longer than 30 seconds but comes back and I get kicked from my friends server.

Pain in the behind when you've spent a long time setting everything up, other games cope with it fine.

Yeah that is a pain - but that is set by the server owner in his network.cfg

This sim looks mint, would really love to get it but I haven't got the patience any more. Might see if I can get it cheap somewhere and dust off my HOTAS Cougar.

Got a refund on my copy personally... the forums the game is based on are extremely admin happy. If you say anything negative towards the game > post deleted. If you argue they are breaching consumer laws > post deleted.

Didn't like the fact we bought the beta and got features torn out, then things like MP server checking implemented on the sly thinking no one would notice. Upon raising this > post deleted.

On asking for a refund, they again tried to breach consumer trading acts by not issuing it within the allotted time period... once I started explaining this and the ramifications, something actually got done.

Is a good game.. but not worth my £35 as I like to get into the communities, which seems impossible on their forums, very elitist and heavy handed moderators like VIPER ruin your experience.

(Thank god this wont be deleted here, which is why I spend thousands here)

Still enjoying my time on blackshark which I've had for sometime, will pick up A10 when its down to BS levels (grabbed it for £10), can't wait for the new BS patch though for HDR and few other goodies.
