***DEAL OF THE MILLENIUM - MSI GTX 470 Twin FrozR ONLY £143.99 Inc. VAT!!*****

Bye bye GTS250..Hello GTX470 mmm shiny :D

I thought the metal surround might be flimsy but its quite thick and sturdy, also had to faff around a bit to move my hard drives down a slot for the extra length of the card.

its idling at 31c at 40% fan speed, very pleased with it so far :)

Really helpful info there, thanks very much! It gives me a good idea of speeds I should be aiming for!
What would you regard as the maximum "safe" voltage? And am I right in thinking that every GTX470 has a different stock voltage, and it just depends on how much voltage is required for that particular chip to run at the stock speeds?

Well 1.087 should be safe (which is the highest Afterburner allows without advanced tweaking) but nVidia rate the GF100 cores for upto 1.1v - tho the "default" voltage range nVidia use for binning the 470 is 0.875 to 1.075 IIRC (most I've seen are around 0.925-1.0).

If your feeling brave 1.1v should let you get around 900MHz core clocks - which puts you in GTX580 territory - but you might find you need even better cooling than the MSI ones for stable operation.

^^ I'm quite suprised at that, I've not seen many do 800Mhz under 1.025 - tho there is the odd person who's reported they can do it on stock voltage (tho not seen it for myself).

Same here Rroff, ive tested them with quite a few benchmarks, heaven, resident evil, lost planet 2, dirt 2, 3d mark and a lot of gaming, mainly cod bo, bfbc2 and moh. Havent experienced any artifacting or crashing, lost planet 2 bench though maxed the cards memory usage at 1028mb, highest ive ever seen on them.

Just did a heaven benchmark and got a score of 898, with 36.8FPS average. High settings, normal tesselation and 4x AA at 1680x1050. CPU is a phenom 2 955 at stock and 4gb ram.

edit: also, the GPU didn't go any higher than around 62c, so it looks there's a good amount of room for overclocking.

Tesselation must make a big difference. I got only 14 frames less (22.3) with Tesselation off at 1920x1200 on my 8800GT. Score was 587. Hoping my 470 gets a fair bit more.

My 470 is being delivered by normal delivery so should arrive on Monday, but do I get an option to select a delivery time? It's just nobody will be in our house until about 4 and I dont want to miss it :(

^^
Damn sucks it didn't get delivered today, especially since it's the weekend. I know what I'm like, I end up looking out the window every 5 mins until my delivery arrives. Closest thing you get to that christmas present feeling as a kid :'( :D

Don't think theres an option - but if you use the tracking it usually shows a delivery window and has some options so you might be able to arrange something else.

ASk a neighbour to take it and leave a note on the telling the driver to take it there.

So far so good on my delivered 470, I was playing a few games last night and everything is much smoother than the 4870 I was coming from. Very happy, I love the look of it too, it feels really solid.

DPD delivered Saturday morning at around 08:30 (Fantastic!!)

by just after 10am I had installed it and rebuilt windows (needed doing for a long time anyway). Installed MSI Afterburner, managed 750mhz on the core and 1500mhz on the shaders. Didn't want to push anymore, nor did I want to up the volts. Idle around 34c and didn't go past 66c after 30mins playing F1 2010 at MAX settings.

Sitting here now my machine isn't any lounder than with my old HD 5450 which had passive cooling. This is in an Antec 300 with 120mm case fans (2xfront, 1xside, 1xrear, 1xtop). Can't go wrong for £140!!!!

Have to say I think it makes quite a big difference removing a back plate one down from the card. I have an asus xonar soundcard just under the graphics so figured it might help push some of the hot air out.

Hmmmm - just been playing Dirt 2, and started to get Green dots all over the screen, restarted and now got green dots all over the desktop that kinda follow windows etc, but pretty random. I've only installed the default drivers from the nvidia site.

Any ideas?
