Dell 24 incher (NO RULE BREAKING)

just set the background of your desktop to a few different colours and hide all your icons, quick and easy to spot dead pixels then :)

On the dells (2001fp, 2005fpw and 2405fpw) to check dead pixels just change the input to one that is not being used (like vga if you are using dvi) and the black screen will reveal any dead or sub pixels and let you see what the backlighting is like too !

Ok guys, I'v just read 12 pages and this monitor is sweet! I'v just been speaking to my brother in law and it seems he can get me one for a decent price.

Now If I do invest in this, I need to make sure this purcahse is worthwhile, I.e it will last me, as being 16, It will bring me some financial issues but I'll hopefully pay off for It.

Now I have some questions, would be very greatful If you guys could help me out,

Firstly, If I do get the 24 incher can my brother in law transfer his details onto my name as I dont want him to deal with any hassle as he lives 40 miles away.

Secondly, Would I be able to hook up my PS2 to this? (Very important factor)

Thirdly, How would this face up as a primary display? Would Tv quality be upto scratch with a decent tv card? And does cs:s play well in WS etc . . .

Also does this panel suffer any backlight bleed?

Thats It for now, thanks guys :)

Is it power hungry to play in it's native res?

I have 1GB GeiL Ram, A64 3500+ and Galaxy 6800GT pre-clocked
Im running HL2 with setting at max, with a 3000+ @ 2.16Ghz and X850XT at stock, loading is a bit sucky, but game play is pretty damn cool, i was actually shocked when i loaded up at 1920 x 1200

Doom3 seems to run pretty well also!

I just ordered one of these... mwahahahaha

nice replacement for my samsung 193t which is frankly a bit rubbish...

And of course I had to get an x850xtpe to go with it... and a new motherboard...

funny how these things get out of hand isn't it... :D

Just received mine through the post... 7:50AM - the 2nd day after I placed my order! :D

So far so good. It looks enormous. Almost comically big. The screen dwarfs the 17" sat next to it as well as the 2005FPW I had before (believe me, you don't even need a screen to compare: it's just HUGE).

Brightness wise, I'm sat next to a window so it doesn't seem too excessive. In fact, I have the brightness up to 75% atm. The colours seem a little on the bluey side by default: going to see if I can get these changed today. Very sharp image, though I'm not sure it's as bright at default as the 2005FPW. No dead pixels (yet!) and the backlight appears to be completely uniform. Hard to tell in the day time of course! ;)

Oh, one slight annoyance: the screen does appear to "sag" to the right hand side. Looks lop-sided for it. I know several others on the hardocp forum have had the same issue. Will see if there's a chance of fastening some nuts in the stand.

Apart from that, very, very pleased!! Too big!! :D

Will post some pics in a sec!

Changing the ATI gamma to about 0.90 (as opposed to 1.00) gives everything a slightly darker tint, which in turn eccentuates the colours and makes them more like the 2005FPW. Best way for me to describe this screen would be to say that, to get some decent contrast out of it, you have to whack up the brightness (to 75% imo). But in doing that, the screen gets sharper - fine! - but also a little too bright. Result: slightly washed out colours. The taskbar colours are definitely lighter than on the 2005FPW. I haven't played with the screen's colour settings yet: still on sRGB. Definitely noticed it's tinted blue whilst at sRGB though (i.e. less warm than 2005FPW).

Brightness at 75 !! erk, you will burn your eyes out, i turn mine down to 25-30, through dvi.

Also alter the gamma, so things look a lot better in the graphics card options.

Yeah I agree with the gamma comment. 0.90 seems pretty good so far. I don't want to turn down the brightness: it seems to effect the contrast, and things become less sharp or impressive (a better word, perhaps?). I'd rather turn up the brightness and reduce the gamma tbh.

Just out of interest, what colour temperature settings are available? is it like a CRT where you have 9300k, 8500K 5000k sRGB etc.. and can these be adjusted? I presume you can manually adjust the gamma and brightness via the OSD rather than through software?

Thanks.
