Just out of interest, what colour temperature settings are available? is it like a CRT where you have 9300k, 8500K 5000k sRGB etc.. and can these be adjusted? I presume you can manually adjust the gamma and brightness via the OSD rather than through software?

Thanks.

Hey, your sig is very appropriate ;) Yes, you can manually alter the RGB values and the brightness. Contrast is locked on DVI, but upping the brightness appears to up the sharpness at the same time anyway. There are also three presets: sRGB, Red and Blue. I think it's agreed that to get the very best from this monitor you need to calibrate the settings yourself. Can't be arsed atm though ;)

bobbyboy, what screen did you come from before? I'm used to pretty bright screens after owning the 2005FPW.

A 2001fp ,had that for 6 months, then a 2005fpw (had that a day before the 24 incher arrived , they both make the 20 inch 4/3 look dull)

Thanks for the reply, I'll be using a hardware calibration unit, I just wanted to know how much control I'll have over the adjustments via the OSD.

Cheers

To be honest i think i prefer the 20 inch widescreen, the 24 is just to big i reckon

I prefer the 2405. I agree this appears to be too big atm, but the picture is a lot better than my old 2005. This reason being, I found the screendoor effect on the 2005fpw quite jarringly obvious and thus really annoying. I can't see this effect at all on the 2405fpw. The 2005fpw had oddball resolutions, particularly when it came to running in 4:3. Not so here. Finally, my 2005 had a non-uniform backlight, which was REALLY annoying when watching movies (with borders) or playing dark games like Doom3. Again, there's no such problem with the 2405.

If you can find a 2005fpw that doesn't suffer from any of the above, then that screen is great, and just as satisfying as the 2405fpw (when you take away size as a factor). But otherwise, it really can't touch it.

Right, I'm off to try World of Warcraft :)

Ive also noticed that some have a slightly lop sided stand!! Slightly annoying as i think its more noticable with a screen of this size.

Just a pic of something i had to play with for a few hours ;)

 nice!!

I've just had to drive home to attempt to meet the TNT guy who was delivering mine as yet again they've managed to deliver it in the one hour time frame that nobodys home. Luckily for me the bloke came back as I missed him by ten minutes the first time!

First impressions like everyone else has said its huge! At first I thought it might just be too big, but now its setup on the desk I think it should be fine, anything bigger would just be unusable for me.

One of the first things I noticed like DsK brought up is the monitor seemed to be at a slightly funny angle, I rotated it into portrait mode and back again and it seemed a bit better. I've had to come back to work now so I'll have a play around with the stand a bit more tonight.

I haven't had time to do a thorough check for dead pixels or back light leakage but nothing seemed obvious in my 10 minutes of testing.

And DsK, two of those look mighty impressive, but if I'd gone for two I wouldn't have a desk left! Actually it looks like you don't either!!!

Have spent the last 3 hours playing World of Warcraft and colour me impressed!! It's absolutely fantastic. The game runs smoothly in 1920x1200 with 4xAA/16xAF on my configuration - x800xt, 3800+ - and performs just as well as it did at 1600x1200 on my old 2001FP. I was unsure about the colours on this screen at first, but they've grown on me. Yes, it's still day time so too early to tell, but I don't think they're lacking at all. Definitely more towards 5000K than 6500K - unlike the Dell 2005FPW - but that's not bad thing. WoW looks fantastic to me at the default sRGB setting with brightness at 75%. Not fiddling with the ATI gamma at all. I did lower it a bit on the desktop at first, which made it look darker and brought the colours out more, but then I started missing the brightness :p

Now I think that the image reproduction on this screen is much nicer than my old 2005FPW. Even though it's meant to have higher specs, it doesn't seem as sharp and glary as that screen (the picture appears more still for one). Still need to try it at night though. It looks great anyway - very, very happy about it and wished I'd never worried. There's too much flea-picking going on with this screen. It's fantastic! Very happy indeed :D

daddyorchips, great stuff thanks for your feedback.

I have been looking at many tft's the last few months, and only recently discovered the 2005fpw but the extra 4cm on the 2405 looks tempting (and a good way to convince the missus :) ) but might be a bit of an overkill for the extra money - If I buy a monitor now it will have to stay with me for the next 2-3 years at least

do you play any fast fps (ut2004), if so is there any ghosting as such?

Am

Ok, sod it, i was going to get a piddly little 17" or 19" TFT, now you guys have made me excited, and i want one of these.

I can't be bothered searching through the whole of this thread, but i have some questions -

What res are these at highest?
------------------------------------------------------------
What kinda warranty would you get with one of these?
------------------------------------------------------------

Cheers guys.

Sorry for all the questions :D

Ta,

Andy

A bit OT, but what's a good keyboard/mouse to go with this fantastic screen then? I'm sick of my desktop mx duo. Was tempted by the apple wireless keyboard and a mx1000 to go with it, but I'm a bit worried about the apple's colour: white gets dirty v. easily. Has anybody got the diNovo for notebooks keyboard? Am thinking about pairing that with a MX1000: get the best of both worlds!
