Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

For Neil im using the Display Profile addon when i want to switch between profiles for general tweaking etc.

Havent noticed a problem with it switching back to default, might be worth a try

Got Sunlitsix profile on now, initially it does look richer colours than the TFT central one.

I pretty much always game in a room with the only lighting is an uplighter on the wall behind the monitors, havent tried it with the main room lights on. Off to do some playing and see how it goes :)

/edit btw i also didnt realise i was to enable GSync + VSync in NVCP then turn off V-Sync in game. Will try that now :)

Hi guys, my monitor is sat at home and I'm a total newbie with the whole gsync and vsync stuff. Will be setting it up when I get in at 10. What settings do I need turning on and where? I will be using a GTX 980ti but I won't have that until tomorrow so it will be the Intel on board card tonight!

Until you get the 980ti there is not much you can do mate :)

For when your GTX 980ti arrives, setup instructions ;)

TURN OFF VSYNC IN GAMES!

Me again

I have to say that the colours are pretty damn good. It's never gonna compete with a 10bit IPS panel but I have noticed a difference from my older Asus which was also a TN panel.

So how does this translate into gaming? Well I am very familiar with BF3 and maps like caspian border are more lush and there is a nice distinction and vividness to players who run the spec ops (black) camo. Before they would blend/crush easily into the environment/shadows/foliage but what now I am clearly able to see is them stand out from from all of that.

I have a certain trait at noticing things out of place or catching someone running past me right at the edge of my fov and the colours have made it even easier.

Cheers guys...few questions/concerns. Using on board intel via HDMI which isn't ideal and I've noticed on a white screen there's a purple tint at the bottom of the screen, any ideas?

Also I've got this in device manager:

Is that the USB hub that needs installing? Windows can't find anything and won't take anything from the CD.

I've just tried another HDMI cable and it appears there is a faint "purple" band going up the screen, very noticeable on a white background. Bit gutted really, must be a fault. Hoping OCUK can get me a replacement before Christmas.

Nice profile this one, the other one had more of a red tint! Any chance of doing a second profile but with slightly lower gamma? :)

When I have spare time I will do gamma 1.8, Takes 7 hours to run calibration and generate a .icc profile as I run around 12,000 patches on highest quality settings

Well i sweared i would never return to TN nor 16:9 but the price point of this monitor and the looks makes it so that i am actually interested in it. Ive read about an issue with vertical lines(pixel inversion?) that this monitor (along with the swift and others) should suffer from, what are your experiences? how is the monitor in general? Any cons? How black is black? Thanks for sharing

Gamma is the hardest thing on theese gsync 1440p panels to tweak, to your own personsl settings. I use 0.98 on the swift, the rest i gathered from the owners thread and the gsync thread in gpu sub forum. Which works nicely, but coming from an old but very high end VA panel even at 1920x1200. A tn monitor is just for heads on gaming only. The colour shift from top to bottom on darker web pages is a bit annoying. But once in a game, thats soon forgot about.

Well mine will be going back to OCUK, got a stuck pixel in the middle of the screen and a purple tinted area at the bottom middle of the screen going up which is really visible on a white screen. Hopefully my replacement will be better!

spot on

I'm going to make a few profiles

- General Web Viewing (General all rounder)
- Gaming (Higher Gamma)
- Movies (Better Blacks, Lower Whitepoint)

edit - about the colour shift this panel uniformity test will help explain what is going on

Tempted once again... Currently on a BenQ XL2420T 144hz 1080p, Worth it?

I went from the 22T benq and it's a nice monitor. I think I was unlucky with mine. Ordered another to come tomorrow, replacement going back next week. I considered the rog swift but with the issues and higher price I decided to stick with the Dell having spent a few hours considering my options.
