Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

How do I know G-Sync is working as the light is always white?
Can you not hit a button on the monitors menu to show this? Asus swift owner here and this is how you can check on it, as well as the power light being red.

Hope the wait was worth it mate, will be interested to hear your impressions as i know you were a bit indecisive :)

Personally im loving it, no dead pixels, no noticible BLB and for my usage requirements im delighted with the monitor.

Need to try that different profile tho currently using the TFT Central one

Really happy with mine too same situation as you in regards to BLB etc

However I can't get Gsync working in Elite Dangerous, the frame rates sore to about 300+

There is no way of knowing if G-Sync is actually on either :(

Neil did your arrive yet? mines due 28 to 1 January , but already posted

Yeh pics tonight! It's a beauty

Gsync and vsync set in NVCP global settings, vsync off in game. This will cap the frame rate to 143.5.

Oh and by the way, just tried CPKeeper to force the ICM profile, and everytime I leave a game the profile resets to default. Really annoying, any way of forcing it?

Here's the glorious Dell S2716DG, glad I went with it and not the swift and at a much lower price of £380 brand new !!!

Pros

- Amazing detail and colours at just 0.80 Gamma/40% Brightness/75% Contrast
- Lovely bezel with none of that gloss stuff, it looks and feels like a high grade monitor with a lot of QA gone into it.
- Comes with a good length DP cable and USB cable
- No Back light bleed or pixels that I could see
- Playing in BF4, Ass Creed or Elite Dangerous with Gsync at 144hz 1440p is a sight to behold! It's as smooth as no Vsync but with no tearing, juddering or frame rate drops you get with Vsync On

Cons

- Price, even though I'm impressed with it, it's still too costly!
- No way of knowing if G-Sync was on, other than pressing the OSD, which wasn't mentioned.
- Did not know I had to have G-Sync and Vsync On for certain games
- A little washed out for a high price at default, had to be adjusted
- When frame rates drop below 60 in games such as Fallout 4 Gsync doesn't help with noticing the low frames, it just feels awful. - Better over 60!

Games Tested

- Battlefield 4 : This is when it really shines, just amazing I could almost say I was drooling it was so good
- Ass Creed : Had to turn off AA to get it to stay above 60, but other than that, it was like a completely different game
- Fallout 4 : Gsync + 1440p just isn't helping here with my mods and sweetfx, many times it went under 60fps sometimes as low as 40 and it looks and feels awful. Plus flickering on vegetation which I didn't get with the 1080p. Not to be too harsh though, the Creation/Gamebyro engine is really out of date now.
- Dungeon Kingdom : In early access, with frame rates dropping below 60 at times it feels distinctly laggy even with G-Sync.
- The Quest : Playing retro styled games in 1440p is just wow, my draw dropped!

Mine is due for delivery today but I'm working until 10pm and then I'm out first thing tomorrow, might not get mine setup until christmas eve. Looking forward to it though!

Great profile this one! Although I increased my brightness to 40-50% as yours was a little too dark :D

Nice thanks

Dark, are you sat in a floodlit room? :p

Thanks i like your profile it works well for me here i prefer it to the tft central one :)

Yeah the colours seem more vivid with my calibration, not sure why!

what software did you use? I intend to use displaycalgui and will probably do a 7 hour calibration leaving it on overnight.

I used the software that came with the device Spyder5Pro, it won't work with other devices.

The only problem with the profile and all the others, is as soon as you play a game and come back the profile resets back to default. Same thing when going into NVCP sometimes, colour resets!

Tried CPKeeper to force the profile on windows 10, no dice :(

What do you use sunlitsix?

Mine has arrived. Tried GSync out in BF3 and it does make a difference compared to my fps cap and vsync which I used before. First thing after assembly I did was install the drivers from the CD so that the monitor didn't show as generic under device manager.

The bezel is deceiving because once you turn on the monitor or even take the panel out of the box you can see that the panel itself is surrounding by a further inner bezel. The construction is solid and very minimalist, so don't expect any fancy rgb underlights or UI gimmicks like the fps cross hair found on other models.

The colour shift is glaringly obvious from a white background but if you sit further away the affect is less noticeable almost negligent. However from close up at a normal sitting position and distance from a desk I can see very slight blue/grey at the bottom of the screen compared to pure white at the top and middle.

I'm happy to report no dead pixels and back light bleed checks will be done tonight as well as creating a custom colour profile (I need to leave the monitor on for a few hours before creating one)

Edit - The drivers install monitor sound drivers also which overrides whatever you had, so disable them in device manager / computer management if you don't intend to use them.

My Dell arrived last Friday.

I was allowed to get the panel out of the box and power it up to check it wasn't DOA/littered with dead pixels, (it looks perfect) but then it had to go straight back in the box again to be wrapped up by the Mrs, and go under the Xmas tree!

It's killing me that my epic new monitor is there waiting to be played and I cant use it! Mini review and some pics from me after Xmas!
