Dell S2716DG - Dells first G-sync

well i got my panel delivered today and all i can say is wow . (yep on a Sunday from dpd , wasn't expecting until Tuesday)

I'm sending back the Acer x34 ultra wide back (not from here ) due to getting a used (customer return) panel and it has now developed bad bleed in the top and bottom left corners .

only thing i do not like about the dell is the small size of the screen , i went from a 40in 4k Philips , then to a x34 24in , then back to my 4k 40in , then back to a 34in and now to a 27in , i still have the 40in 4k too . i just don't think gaming is ready for 4k and that's someone who has 2x 980ti , I'm now thinking of getting the acer 27in 165hz ips when it comes out and another one of these dells and use the dells for the surround , once pascal is released i will then get another 980ti (evga hydro copper ) for triple sli as i already have 2 under water and by the time they (980ti) come down in price when pascal is released it will be time to do maintenance on my system (full flush as just built only a few weeks ago ).

so i think 3 x 980ti under water will be good enough for 3x27in in surround and have the centre screen as ips (unless dell release an ips of course.

but I'm really happy with this dell all be it a little BLB but only noticeable when system start up

saying that its not far off being an ips ..and coming from a 4k VA its very impressive i must say , i ,may end up just getting another 2 of these as the bezel is very thin .

gaming is awesome , played black ops 3 for 30 minuts and notice the difference instantly and got positive scores on every game i played with this monitor , on the acer x34 i never got any positives .

project cars with everything on max settings itr does the 144hz 144fps easy.

BO3 did 100-120fps second .

thinking 3 would be ok with 2x 980ti with a few settings turned down but i think i will wait for more price drops on the graphics to get the full experience of 144hz with triple monitors .

Stuff it, purchased! :O

well my current 24inch Asus has lasted 4 years and will replace my older 2nd monitor

Your not making my choices any easier :p

I wanted a G-sync ISP monitor but seen the numerous problems with the panels in the thread for it. I've had a dell for ages and seen the S2716DG as people seem impressed with it and the price is OK I've been kind of leaning in its direction.

I guess the question is ISP really that much better for TN

I've had both the PG279Q and this. Sent the PG back and don't regret it at all. The XB271HU may be better, but I'm going to wait until many more people have got them until I decide. It's still the same old AU lottery as far as I'm concerned. Even if it is okay when I get it I just don't trust Acer's warranty at all. Dell are pretty solid and you get 3 years with this one.

Whether IPS is that much better is pretty subjective. It WILL give you better colours. I've heard people say otherwise (that the same colours can be produced by both panels) but in my experience it's just a fact that the PG had more vibrant colours. You can, however, come close with the Dell. It's miles better than my old Asus VG248QE.

For me the most impressive thing about the IPS was the lack of colour / gamma shift. I notice it a lot on the Dell when I'm doing web design work, however it is not really a factor when gaming. Also the horizontal shift isn't that obvious, it's the vertical one that's the issue. Some people also find pixel inversion an issue. I either don't notice it or am not bothered by it if it is present, but wanted to mention it anyway.

As far as the downsides of the PG (aside from the fact it's £250-£300 more expensive!) go, it has awful uniformity - you will almost certainly get the top 1/3 of the screen a horrid, pale yellow colour. This, for me, was even worse than the colour shift on the Dell. Also, you will get bleed. The amount varies (based on luck, naturally) but mine had more glow and more bleed than I was prepared to accept. Any reasonably dark scene was ruined - it looked like someone was shining spotlights into my monitor from 2 of the corners.

With that in mind I felt the PG was inferior for gaming (glow / BLB) and also for work (uniformity). So I stuck with the Dell. But of course many go the other way, and simply cannot accept a TN panel. Fair play to them - I miss the colours but personally didn't feel like the trade-off to get them is worth it.

With that the PG279Q is defiantly off the list.

Any one know when the XB271HU is coming out?, if its that far away I might just go with the Dell, I've had Dells in the past and liked them. After a TN monitor a friend gave me broke I've went back to my old Dell ISP and the colours are nice. (it only 21 inch and about 10 year old)

Though I hope a Dell TN would be a lot better than the old Samsung TN.

Worthy upgrade for a DGM2701 IPS? Got until to tomorrow to decide.

Oculus pre-orders are in a few weeks according to numerous Google alerts so it'll be a choice of one or the other for now :(

Right then final profile from me, I need to enjoy this monitor now rather than stare and be hypnotized by all these colour swatches. :p

I cannot get it better than this:

https://drive.google.com/open?id=0B5cNNyJqRoXXLVdmeEZaRlhvZmc

Improvements from previous profile is even more accurate gamma at 2.2 higher up the scale and better greyscale balance.

If you wish you can add no more than 56% digital vibrance from nvidia control panel which will give you a picture like this:

Desktop picture looks better as there isn't any white crush on BB8.

I was looking forward to this monitor, but then i heard the coating is a type of grainy similar to the ROG swift? is this true? i cannot stand grainy coating! or is it more matt like the LGs Ultrawides? which is perfect in my book.

Great Profile, using it now, colours looks great. Like you I'm running the 56% Digital Vibrance.

Thanks for taking the time to do these. Really appreciated, makes a huge difference.
