*** Dell UltraSharp U2410 24" Widescreen LCD Monitor @ £447.99 inc VAT ***

Received my brand new U2410 last Thursday (not from OcUK), but it had a dead pixel. Replacement from DELL arrived today and its a shocker!

This replacement is shocking, beyond belief, and utterly disgraceful in condition, and that's before I've even plugged it in and turned it on! But that wont be happening, as I'm not accepting it. There is no way that this is a BRAND NEW replacement monitor, I'd say more like a refurbished unit, but the state that its in doesn't even suggest that. Even ignoring the many fingerprints on the unit, I'd say well used. It arrived in a plastic bag with no screen protector guarding the screen, I suppose that should have sent alarm bells ringing right away, but I'd waited a long week and was just happy to get my replacement.

Some pictures I took after the monitor arrived, the first being laughable to say the least.

The front screen badge is missing part of its letter, as in broken off:

One of many deep scores on back of unit, this being the biggest one:

The monitor stand in all its glory, complete with rough scratches:

A scrape on the screen:

And most of the screen is like this:

On/Off button looking well used:

As you can see, not really BRAND NEW is it? It's absolutely shocking that DELL can have the nerve to actually send this to anybody, it looks worse than second hand!! I've sold 4 year old monitors to people in better condition.

I will not be accepting any more replacements from DELL direct, I cant trust them, and the above shows why.

I'm going for a refund.

That's shoddy. Looks like someone has had a right go at that. Wonder where the quality control team were because they must have been on stike or down the pub.

Best of luck getting that sorted, can't see Dell having much luck arguing with those photos. I'm sure Trading Standards would just LOVE to hear from you if Dell are difficult over that. ;)

That's truly shocking. I've used some monitors that have been reviewed by countless others before reaching me that are glossy and much more prone to scratches. And I've never seen anything like that!! It looks like it's been rolled around a few times on concrete and then stamped on.

Please can you keep us updated with how you get on please, I'm look invest in one of these soon, however it concerns me greatly that the "premium pixel guarantee" is worth jack if they try and fob you off with a 2nd hand monitor !

Please report on how you get on.....I seem to recall on one of posting here someone had a similar problem and they dialed a number which was UK based and they sorted the problem.

Cheers

PS JUst looked through ALL the thread and they didnt mention the number they called

A nice guy there called Chris-M is trying to help me out, but it's difficult as I am UK and he is US based, but customer service he definitely is! regardless :)

After searching around for a month for a good monitor, I was seriously up for buying a U2410. Seems like an amazing all-round (including gaming) monitor. It even has component input (Wii).

It's really disappointing such problems exist on a monitor that, on paper, by specification, appears to be great.

There's a lot of the same complaints on other forums... Meh

My search continues!

I am by no means an expert but I love mine (apart from the damn touch buttons!) I got it running next to my old Dell 2407 which I've never had any problems with either.

I suppose this would be a good time and place to mention - U2410 review now up on our website.

P.S. Why don't you like the touch-sensitive buttons? The U2410 is the best implementation I've come across of the technology. On the unit we reviewed the responsiveness was perfect and I miss them now we're reviewing the U2211H.

I have been looking for a good monitor to use with Photoshop after deciding i can't justify the expense of an Applemac.
This seems like the monitor to go for but i am just a bit reluctant to buy incase i get one of the bad ones.

Because I use mine for playing xbox and so switch between inputs a lot. When I turn the xbox off it very quickly goes into power saver mode before I can push the switch input button and so I end up tapping several times to wake it up which results in the menu appearing then disappearing several times - I suppose its more an issue of how quickly it goes into power saver but the buttons compound the problem! With the 2407 I could just easily push the change input button and it did it quickly!
