Destiny 2... It's a coming!

Just completed the mission.... OMG that was awesome. M&KB felt so crisp and my R5 1600 / GTX 1070 held up extremely well at 1440P.

Quick benchmark starting from the moment you see the Flagship to the cutscene at the end:

Note this was with all settings set to as high as they would go barring AA which was set to FXAA (or whatever the game defaults to).

It felt super smooth on my Dell 1440 G-sync display regardless of what was happening.

The key bindings are taking a little while to get used to (I have bound the melee / grenade and class ability to my mouse & moved crouch to C). This is more a case of 300+ hours on D1 rather than an issue with the game. You can of course completely customise it although it seems you can't have a secondary key / button for each command.

I am going to test it out on my laptop after tea and also start doing some recording. :)

ok...now..just to clarify, I never played Destiny 1. So I cant compare it to Destiny 1 but I've obviously played a lot of PC FPS over the decades.

I have to say, and I'm aware that I may be very much in the minority with this, but I am just not impressed by it. It runs smoothly and the gunplay is fine but the world (at least what I can play of it) just doesnt feel interactive at all. I'm used to being able to interact more with the environments, there seems to be no drops (dont know if there is supposed to be in Destiny) , no chests, no lockers etc to search through. The level feels very linear and on rails (though this may just be because its an early level of the game) and I'm used to a bit more freedom to explore. I dont want to offend any console gamers but it feels to me like a console game (which makes sense I guess as it is), doesnt feel like it has the depth of the sorts of FPS I play on PC, though obviously its only a tiny tiny portion of the game and only the early stages at that, but its all I have to go on. I know that The Division/Borderlands isnt quite the same as Destiny but right now I would take the either of those over this every time. I do understand thats perhaps an unfair comparison as I am comparing a snippet of a game against already released games. It looked nice, not great, but nice, good enough I would say but not mindblowing. I will have to have a little more of a go and contemplate whether to cancel my preorder.

Drops are disabled in the beta (barring the end screen loot for the strike and Crucible). The (beta) missions available are both linear by design. The actual game ships with 4 open world (ish) areas to explore which will have more interactivity.

Sounds a bit better. Might be an idea for me to cancel my preorder and wait for release and see what people are saying then in that case. At the moment, from the (limited) game that I can play, I much prefer The Division/Borderlands though I understand of course that I may have gotten the wrong end of the stick on what the game is exactly. It just seems very, basic, from what I can play of it. Runs brilliantly smooth, looks ok, it just doesnt seem deep enough for what I was thinking. But I will keep an eye on it as for co-op fps I've got my eyes on Destiny 2, Anthem and Far Cry 5 so plenty of choice for one (hopefully more) to grab me.

Wow, what can I say? This is the most well optimized PC game in years. Amazing graphics/performance at 4k60. CPU and GPU load never goes above 70%. Not a single stutter anywhere. This is an incredible version of the game. There are so many PC options in the settings menu. Even the biggest PC nerd will go green at this.

god damn, I never thought I was going to play a Destiny game again, but the marketing / hype machine got me again

LETS HOPE ITS FOR REAL THIS TIME!

feels incredible to finally have the option to play the game at >30fps and get rid of the tiny FoV

runs like an absolute dream at 144fps

don't think I would ever be able to go back to a console version stuck at 30fps now

Well if I were you I'd hold off on cancelling just yet, wait for the console release (6th September) and watch some on Twitch/Youtube and see if the full version has the kind of content you want, as you said maybe it just isn't for you but it is a very limited snippet.

Im in the same boat as you. Ive seen Destiny 1 gameplay videos so i have to assume there is more to it than this but my god they have limited the beta to the point where i would not hold it against people if they think this will be just another very liniar game with nothing much going on. The gunplay is passable but that is it. No loot to keep me interested and the world ive seen so fare didnt really get me excited for more. Hopefully the full game will change my opinion but its not a great demo for people who have never played Destiny before i feel..

Yeah the strike is so limited I actually think it's detrimental to the impression people will get of it. There's no loot at all, and they've taken half the enemies out of it that you normally see in strikes.

The beta is extremely barebones. It's just a network and hardware test more than anything else.

Maybe its just that, maybe its just not the best "demo" for those who are coming from PC only backgrounds with no awareness of Destiny. I remember playing the beta of The Division and it really did just feel far more involving than this (with chests, boxes, lockers to open, bullet decals on cars and walls, shooting through windows and them shattering, clothing, outfits, loads of different weapons to have to select between, superb graphics, interesting non-linear (to a degree) level design, the little "video" pickups of past events, the hunt the missing person breadcrumbs side things etc), As Qel says, I will keep an eye on it and see if there is more depth to it.

Really good so far, I played and enjoyed the first on the xbox and this seems familiar. The demo feels more fps than an mmo but once the game is out with drops/upgrades and free roaming etc I can see it being excellent.

with destiny 1, they opened up way too much content in the beta. so when the actual game came out, you had already seen 1/4 of the content. looks like they've taken a different angle this time around and just given you a tiny taste of things to come.

how could you not be excited for more after that epic finish to the prologue? :D
don't you wanna see what happened to all the chars, or find out how you are going to get revenge?
