Destiny 2... It's a coming!

Neither would you in Guild Wars. Outposts had a 64 player limit, IIRC? Instances, 8 to 16 players, mostly 8 to 12 in later campaigns. Outposts were very much assembly points to form parties and play instanced campaigns.

Stats and player progression were persistent, the world wasn't.

So Yeah, it's Guild Wars with guns. I miss that game...

In Guild Wars 2, you see a lot more than 64 players running about in the zones. Destiny is mulitplayer online but lets not kid anyone, an MMO it is not, it just doesnt have the player numbers to constitute the Massively portion of MMO. Anyone expecting to go into the game thinking its an MMO with hundreds of players onscreen in the game areas would end up being disappointed so I'm not going to mislead them into what to expect.

It's definitely not an MMO, it's closer to an ARPG in Diablo's mould. It's the FPS equivalent to games like Diablo, Phantasy Star Online, that sort of thing. You get lots of activities and fairly large discrete and separate worlds with lots of player interaction but it isn't truly open-ended like World of Warcraft or Final Fantasy XIV.

Yeah I prefer to think of it as more a sort of expanded Borderlands than an MMO, but I'm aware that a lot of players (PC gamers mainly, who are new to Destiny) have the impression its an MMO, so I'm always clear that it isnt so that they dont get a false impression. Besides which, there are far too many games these days getting billed as MMOs , that arent MMOs and its a pet peeve of mine :)

PC Project Lead at Bungie confirmed in june that PC DLC will drop at the same time as consoles.

But the raid will not wait, which I can understand to be fair.

For those waiting for PC release, I would 100% recommend avoiding all videos and spoilers on the raid before playing it on PC. It's an awesome experience anyway, but going in "blind" with your team and trying to figure every thing out is great fun :)

I completely disagree with this unless it's when the raid launches. It depends on your skill level.

If your crap at the game you should accept that and research the raid. Otherwise what is going to happen is 5 other people are going to waste their time explaining to you what you could have learned yourself on your own time.

If your fairly decent at the game and can figure stuff out pretty fast then sure go in blind I did this with the last raid and we did it with only a couple of fails but I was with a very good team and I told them just tell me what I need to do and I'll do it because I was confident of ability.

I've been in raids where it took a guy 45 minutes to get through a jumping puzzle for instance. It's just not fun sitting there watching paint dry, well it was funny laughing at how poo he was for the first 5-10 mins but then it gets tedious. Now imagine the same guy trying to be relic runner @ sisters / witches before oryx.

I've been in teams where we could do a full raid in 30 minutes. Even kill Atheon on the first attempt, first rotation (one bubble) 3 times in a row no issues then be in a team where it takes 2 hours to get past oracles.

Some people can only dedicate say a handful of hours per week to the game and the last thing they want to do is spend 8 hours getting to the second stage of a raid because of others not pulling their weight. So it's important you have a like minded group and be open with the people your teaming up with.

Personally I find raids boring I want to get in do it and get the loot and get out as quick as possible. Once you have done a raid once you have done it a thousand times. It's like watching the same movie over and over again.

That is exactly what I posted, for those fresh into D2 when PC launches it will be a real treat. Thanks for your life story though, surprised you didn't mention the Lighthouse.

Moving on,

Nice QoL change in D2:

If you are veteran of Destiny 1, you’re probably familiar with the pre-decryption shuffle. This is where you equipped all of your highest Light gear before you brought your Engrams to the Cryptarch so you would maximize your gains.

In the past, this was a little cumbersome at times, and a huge bummer if you forgot a piece. In Destiny 2, you will suffer those woes no longer.

PSA: In D2 it's no longer advantageous to equip your most powerful gear when decrypting Engrams. We check for your best possible loadout now

Lol :p

I did see that QoL improvement mentioned on Reddit (forgot to post it though).

I wonder what else has been improved / buried in patch notes.

Yes! That will be very handy!

Edit: Rumour seems to be 5 strikes on PC/Xbox and 6 strikes on PS4. 5 doesn't seem like many at launch. Especially if you're like me and tend to do a heroic strike playlist for 2-3 hours farming experience

If you've got some time on your hands and want to fully read up on the story, timelines and lore etc; then The Seraphim Archive is a great site to explain it all :)

That's a good site...but a bit incomplete.

a good video on youtube, by BYF, explains it all so much better...with pics/videos and animations....an hour and a half long though...search the tube for :the complete story of destiny (don't know how to link vids)

:)

G

p.s. he has a very soothing, relaxing....sexy voice......i **** twice while listening...didn't even have to touch it....:-P

The quantity is a little worrying but from reading around (trying to avoid spoilers where possible):

- Significant increase in patrol content with adventures (some are calling them mini strikes), Public events (with additional mechanics), Lost sectors, High Value targets etc
- Quality may be significantly higher than D1 thus a lack of content is less of a problem (not saying I wouldn't want/expect more mind!)
- Possibility that we may see additional strikes / patrol activities added by the live team - No idea how realistic this is but it would be cool.

5 strikes doesn't seem like a lot at all, i used to run them all the time after doing the raid on all my characters. I hope we do get more than just 1, i remember Destiny 1 having more than that if i aren't mistaken.

That QoL improvement above also comes with he caveat that engrams roll their power level when they drop now, and don't take into account other engrams you're carrying. So to get the most from every engram, you need to go decrypt them as soon as they drop...

Honestly don't see the point in engrams any more, may as well just have everything roll the actual item as soon as it drops, saves the pointless busywork of having to go decrypt it.

I thought this too, but looking into the leak it seems that they have revamped them all, not just copy/pasta. Not as bad....

Revamping, refreshing, reusing etc, whatever it's labelled as, why is this even a thing in a sequel? Bungie being lazy plain and simple.

I was expecting a few exotics brought forward - mainly as a nod / wink towards D1 for the "veterans" but the quantity is a little odd.

I suppose there is an element that Destiny 2 is more of a continuation of the same overriding story within the same universe, thus the items will still exist. Still though, this isn't an expansion, *sigh*.

Think I'll give a miss on release and wait for reviews the first one lacked content at release for me so this Is worrying.

what exactly is worrying? Unless they are outright lying about content. They admitted the first lacked early content and they will be releasing more with greater frequency - this has been repeatedly said by them. If its the fact they are re-using many items, so what? Many d1 players have faves, much of it is getting a revamp to bring them up to date. I don't feel this is a cause for concern in the slightest.
