Destiny 2... It's a coming!

is there somewhere with an ELI5 for this ? I'm a WOW / OW player and all this light level stuff etc is really confusing.

It makes a lot more sense when you play the game.

Assuming it's like D1 my rough guide, no doubt LackyT's will be equivalent of a Prima guide!

You start at level 1 and as you gain experience you level up, nothing different here.

The level cap is currently set at 20, once you reach that experience no longer levels you up instead you get a 'package' in D1 it was 5 motes of light, in D2 it seems you get a loot box.

levels 1-20 you don't need to think about light, it serves no benefit. Once you hit level 20 you'll be able to equip all armour, including legendary (purple) and exotic (yellow). This is when you start thinking of 'light'.

As far as I'm aware 'light' is now 'Power'. I'm not sure of this new cap but for D1 it was 400. This rating was worked out on an average of your gear/equipment. So to be the highest 'level' in Destiny you need to have all of your armour (helmet, gauntlets, chest, legs) class item (hunter cloak, titan cloth and warlock armband), Ghost and weapons at a light level of 400.

in short - pre level 20 only experience can make you 'stronger'. Post level 20 only gear/equipment can make you stronger (by raising your light/power levels)

I've probably confused you even more!

Wait for the google doc but in short your character level maxes at 20. You then use armour, weapons and other equipment to boost your light level which in turn acts as your character level. So I stopped playing Destiny a few months ago but think my character ended up being lvl 40 298 light level.

"Everis sells Bright Engrams, which are sort of like loot boxes from Overwatch. It works out to 200 Silver for one, three for 500, and five for 800.

Decode them and you'll earn special rewards like Exotic weapon ornaments, a Sparrow, emotes, or something else. As Polygon explains, there is a chance you could get an elemental weapon mod, which can affect gameplay and may be controversial because of that. Weapon stats can be "slightly" enhanced with these mods, and there are also armor mods and one for subclass abilities to make them regenerate faster."

WTF?

The biggest 'WTF BUNGIE' moment I have seen so far is hearing that shaders are one time use only! Ridiculous. Especially as I frequently changed my Dead Orbit and Raid shaders about.

How can you properly review a game like this after just two days, before a lot of the content is even open yet?

There's a reason serious reviewers have all said wait a week. Any review in the first two days is a joke even if they're positive ones.

It's also more of a rant about something the reviewer doesn't really understand (shaders/microtransactions) than an actual review.

Different strokes and all that I guess, I thought it sounded like a reasonably decent objective non biased review, culminating in an opinion from the reviewer that it was a game that should be a buy (on a scale of buy, wait for sale, never touch) , I already preordered before beta but was underwhelmed by beta and have wondered since about cancelling my preorder but watching his "review" made me hold fire on cancelling , but you are right , I will wait for reviews from the serious reviewers instead before deciding if I should cancel rather than keeping the order based on this guys review.
