Yeah I thought as much - as I've noticed little difference when as a 31 dealing with 32 enemies at the Crota cp. The Fatebringers perks seem to bridge that damage gap if you keep getting precision shots...

Count me in for any normnal CE runs (only done first part and not had chance since) on ps4. LVL 31 titan striker/defender. redrooster303.

Cheers.

I'll check on here and see when people are asking etc or just add me.

If there's one thing common to every aborted/painful VoG HM run....it's people not having at least 300 attack weapons.

I'll give Fatebringer a go but first sign of struggling it'll be Hard Light :)

I suspect that DPS is going to be the major issue with HM. VoG HM Atheon goes from very easy with everyone running maxed raid weapons and a WoL bubble, to intensely frustrating if people are getting ported with just that 5-10% damage reduction meaning oracles aren't getting done in time, or harpies aren't getting cleared, or having to do 4-5+ ports to take him down because the DPS isn't up to it.

CE Normal mode is a tedious bullet sponge affair as it is.

Next up after Hard Light is Red Death to be maxed, especially if the health regen is disabled more places.

Had to look at the app for my useful 331 (or near) weapons:

Primary: Suros, Vex, Hawkmoon, Monte Carlo, Thorn
Secondary: P&T, Murmur, IB, Light of Abyss, Black Hammer
Heavy: 'Horn, Truth, Hunger of Crota, Dragons Breath

Will look into a legendary primary...

I'll be running with:

MIDA Multi-Tool (331)
Light of the Abyss (312) or Murmur (331) depending on what works better
Hunger of Crota (331)

I'll also have the following to switch to as and when the situation calls for it:

Fatebringer (300) - I can't see me using this much.
Vision of Confluence (300) - Deathsinger phase
Black Hammer (331) - Anywhere there's Ogres
Ice Breaker (331) - The witches before the Deathsinger and Knights afterward
Gjallarhorn (331) - Deathsinger and Shriekers

My thinking is, MIDA will be my main weapon throughout for the extra agility and decent impact, and I'll only swap it out when I need to use an exotic elsewhere.
I'll use the fusion rifle for up-close-and-personal combat sections, but switch to Black Hammer for taking out Ogres from range. I'll use Ice Breaker to take out the left/right witches before the Deathsinger, and the Knights afterward as there's tons of them.
I'll have Hunger as my main rocket launcher but switch to Gjallarhorn for enemies that float around, like the Deathsinger and Shriekers as the Wolf Pack Rounds will be of huge benefit there.

You don't need a 331 primary. A 331 damage weapon will only do ~15% more damage than a 300 one even if it's a lv34 enemy and youre 31. I have the rapier and tbh it's not any better than the fatebringer unless at range as it only does 2/3 of the damage per shot

Whilst true if everyone in the group goes in with 300 rather than 331 then that -15% starts to become more of an issue as you'll almost be a whole man down DPS wise.

Id agree if that was shooting something with a very large health bar like Atheon/Templar; but thats quite a simplistic view when shooting the average enemy as some just wont need to be shot at more and its difficult to state if any would need an additional bullet. Im sure Hive Majors might be a bit different but I personally in the CE raid tend to change to secondary for them anyway...

I haven't come across many other theories, has anyone else?
I'm expecting Gatekeepers during Crota - kill a Swordbearer and you also need to kill a newly spawned Gatekeeper, a la the Bridge section. Gatekeepers actually already exist in the Crota arena. There's one standing, lording it over everyone on top of the main room. There's even a clip of it glitching and appearing down in the arena, killing a few people, then vanishing again.

I also expect Oversoul to play a bigger part. Every armour perk appears to be Oversoul related, which seems very unnecessary in normal mode, so I can only imagine it's a necessity in hard mode.

Maybe the oversoul triggers regularly in addition to deaths? Trying to reconcile what they changed in the VoG and its kinda hard to guess...

Darn it, spent the weekend farming 176 Relic Iron to get my Hunter to 32... completely missing that Hard Mode not coming to Wednesday, the one day this week I am unavailable.

If there is anything going on later this week / weekend drop me a message, otherwise will look for signups next week.

I'm a bit worried that CE HM is just going to be stupidly hard as a way to string it out until House of Wolves.

CE is crap anyway, if they just stuff it with higher level mobs and stick bosses that one shot you it is going to suck, badly. I'm hoping they've used a little imagination this time.

I'm a simple man :D I do agree with you and we probably can get away with 300 primaries like VOC and fatebringer as they have very good perks but I think in general if someone can use 331 weapons it will be an advantage.

Oh agreed if you have 331 weapons use them, I just havent had luck with drops and it seems the 331 weapons and how their stats/upgrades compare to 300 weapons (compare the old Vanquisher 8 with the new version) arent as great then you might get away with 300 attack dependent on the enemy you are shooting.

Doesnt seem a way I can easily remedy that - my advice is more a workaround til you can get the perfect 331 weapon (for me thats effectively a 331 VoC/Fatebringer replacement - maybe a high impact auto).

If I recall from VOG hard mode, the only real changes were
  1. Higher level mobs
  2. Containment field on Aetheon

This might sound negative, but I wouldn't be surprised if a similar trend is followed here with higher level mobs and minor changes on crota (maybe oversoul and gatekeeper spawning on each swordbearer kill)

My concern is the loot itemisation. Armor is now far more easily obtainable and all weapons look like they could be from Crota alone (primaries from HM and special/heavy from NM). As such, all people will want is Crota HM kills for the 331 primaries, helmet, husk of the pit thing and cosmetics. The rest could just be a shard farm :(

I fully expect Crota cp sharing just to get that done each week if it is the case only that section gives you unique items you just cant get in NM. Beyond the initial challenge of just beating the whole HM I expect thats what most people will be trying to do (multiple times) til HoW is out...

I will be perfectly happy just farming crota CPs. More time to do fun stuff like run VoG :)

A few things I really want to see in HoW :

1) More than one armour option for max light level
2) A raid with a more interesting mechanic than bullet sponges...more VoG style puzzles, changes of pace, a bigger, longer environment.
3) A way to get max light level without raiding, even if it is a ridiculous grind....so many people miss out on even trying raids because of this.

If you have the crucible marks, buy the rapier scout rifle from the crucible weapon vendor, seriously good gun. Much better than VoC unless you can can't live without the full auto fire and larger magazine. You'll be doing more damage per shot but not as much per magazine, but you'll be getting super fast reloads from outlaw.

Do you have a suros regime at 331? It hits very hard and has a larger magazine than most auto rifles at the same impact, unless you're blessed with a vanquisher with field scout or something.

I think Ive got a firefly perked scout rifle somewhere - will have to compare it to the Crucible Rapier - must admit VoC has ruined scout rifles for me, too used to full auto! Even have a low impact full auto pulse rifle which isnt that bad...

Ive got a 331 Suros, its more I think I need a legendary primary for the many times I expect an exotic secondary/heavy will be more useful. Seems Ive spent most of the DLC time just levelling up stuff and not really paid much attention what is very useful...

Damn my FWC class items!
