*** Destiny Raid & PvP discussion thread ***

For my BTRD, I went with:

Aggressive Ballistics
Hidden Hand
High Caliber Rounds
Crowd Control

A lot of people say you should go for a stability perk in the 3rd tier, such as Braced Frame or Smallbore, but the BTRD is very stable as it is. I went with High Caliber just to throw people's aim off while I'm gunning them down.

i don't rate scout rifles at all especially legendary ones with no burn i would never use one in PVE or PVP. so i wouldn't say any that drop are any good. the only one I use regularly is VOC and that is in PVE only. If they buffed them then yeah they would be good in PVP but in their current state I don't rate them.

Scout rifles can be very good in PVP if you play to their strengths. Fang of Ir Yut is great as is MIDA. Whether you rate them or not is a completely different question.

The main problem they have is not around them needing a buff, it is hand cannons (specifically Exotic ones) being just as effective at SR range.

Bungie really need to take a step back and look at the overall balancing in PVP (and more importantly make balancing for PVP and PVE separate) as currently it is completely broken. When one gun is used by such a large proportion of people playing you know something is wrong.

Finally had BTRD drop in IB tonight. Seems ok so far. Right now I still prefer my Jolder's but that is down to how much I have used it. I had the same problem moving from my original Deviant Gravity.

The lag tonight though was almost intolerable.

I completely agree. I've had a fair bit of success over this IB when using my Salvation State (rolled with full auto, HC rounds/Casket Mag and firefly) and more so with my MIDA. I was using Thorn to start off with as everyone was using it but after switching back to scouts was having a much more enjoyable and successful time.

I did find over the weekend though playing earlier in the day there were far fewer Thorns around and a bigger range of weapons in use. This made the whole experience so much more enjoyable and the gun fights were just that, gun fights! You had to play to the strength of the weapon you were using against the weapon your opponent was using instead of the crutch of the DoT. Even going up against TLW users was fun as, yes, sometimes they got lucky range shots in and if you're up close you're pretty much riddled with holes but even then there were counters for that (PC +1).

I think to fix Thorn in PVP it poisoning perk should just strip your shields and stop them regen'ing for the duration of the poison + the standard regen delay rather than be able to take down your health and kill you. Maybe knock the range down as well as it is pretty ridiculous for a HC, although you'd then have to look at the other HC's that are rolled with range extending perks such as RH9 or The Fulcrum.

EDIT: As Thor mentioned to me yesterday though, the lack of Thorns may have been due to people playing Trials.

Well, what a crock of ****ing ****!

Spent about 40k glimmer rolling this btrd and havent even come close to getting what i wanted... ran out of motes now and left with probably the worst roll out of the lot...

Edit: managed to find more motes by breaking weapons n armour down... Made do with aggressive ballistics, hidden hand, braced frame and range finder... Proper wind up game this is, thought fifa was bad for doing you over....

Buddy, I feel your pain. The amount I've spent on scouts trying to get full auto and firefly... I don't even want to think about it! :p

Still, motes are easy to some by these days and glimmer is just a short exclusion zone farm away. You'll get that perfect roll.

Seperating them would be a good idea IMO as it would make balancing a lot easier. I am trying to remember back to the shotgun nerf, was that not only PvE? If so, then it seems doable to buff/nerf PvE and PvP seperately.

BTRD is nice for PvP :) One dropped for me in IB last time. I haven't got around to re-rolling it yet for PvP perks and it is still good. 2 more BTRD's dropped this week for me too so now I have one in each burn. Also up to 3 or 4 radegasts fury after this weeks IB so thinking re-rolling for one of each burn too for PvE.

Though if I am keeping all that for PvE that is another 6 etheric light I need :(

Turbo_Nuter has spent a fortune on his Ash Factory i still think he hasnt got a set up he likes on it yet, about 250 motes worth of rerolls on it from what i remember

Yup shotguns were given a 100% boost to damage in PVE only meaning Bungie can quite clearly separate them. Not doing so in the past is just pure laziness on their part (Vex Myth or AR nerf being prime examples).

Thorn needs a re-jig I think (and I say this from both using it and being shot by it). One potential possibility is instead of DoT it could instead prevent recovery for X seconds (think PoE "exposure" modifier but not permanent). This would make it less of a fire and forget weapon but still keep a reason to use it over other primaries.

300+ and counting so far :D Not even sure why I'm trying still as I have the ToO RL with the correct perks (tripod, Javlin, G&H) , and a Radegast's with decent perks as well. But this re-rolling is addictive and still got the BRD45 & queen sniper to start on :p

I find motes and glimmer easy it's the blinking weapon parts I can't keep up with....

Unless people are re-rolling a lot I think most people have a reasonably healthy amount of weapon parts. Especially those of use who played from day 1 as there wasn't much use for them up until this DLC. I think I have almost a 1000 weapon parts but about 2 motes :( as I burned through them all in the past 2 weeks trying to get the ram from Xur's helmet engram. I really wish Destiny had trading as I would happily trade weapon parts for motes right now.

Jeez man and you and the others call me crazy for my Destiny Addiction lol

I probably had 1200-odd wp's on HoW release, now down to about 40! :D

I have re-rolled a lot of weapons though, multple SR's, HC's, snipers, shottys, RLs and HMGs. Pretty much got all bases covered now but it's addictive, you never know when you might get a combo that's just amazing with a certain weapon.

I am a day 1 player and i struggle for weapon parts. Mainly because I used to only have 2 characters up until recently and at the start I only had 1 for a huge while.

I also used to keep duplicates and still do (3 messengers and 3 tomorrows answers).

I also spent a lot of coins on motes of light trying to get the RAM i didn't realise it was 2 coins for 1 mote of light i thought it was 1 coin = 2 motes of light until i looked at my SC and they were nearly all gone.

such a rip off. i won't be doing that again.

i have maybe 100 strange coins, 40 motes of light and 40 weapon parts. i had about 250+ strange coins, 250 motes of light and 100 weapon parts up until this new dlc dropped.

i have perfect roll - party crasher, radegast and BTRD.

i have still to roll party crasher (knee pads variant) and her benevolence then i'm done.

sharded = dismantled (you get shards back or motes of light/weapon parts).

when your going to roll a gun wait until you have 2 of them IMO. roll 1 until it gets a near perfect roll or god tier role on 3 out of 4 of the perks. leave it and then start rolling the second. that way if you don't get the perfect roll on the second you have the first one to go back to.

this is how i done my felwinters lie. i got everything perfect apart from shot package i had range finder. so i rolled my second until i got shot package, hammer forged and agg ballistics.

i have everything i need for pvp minus the perfect armour setups and a sniper better than praedyths. i got that shadow of veils which has the highest aim assist but the scope on it is horrible it's for sniping 2 miles away. it's far too zoomed in.

Agree with that, it is how I did my PC+1. If you haven't got 2 then I think roll until you get a good one and wait for a second to drop before re-rolling the second.

I am going to try to roll one of my BTRD to a good PvP roll and then roll the other two simply so they are they other elements as I don't find the perks so important for PvE. The exception being RL's so I can see me spending all my weapon parts trying to get my radegast's with clown cartridge or tripod and tracking while also being different element types.

I wouldn't bother with different ones for PvE.

Truth, Gjally and Thunderlord have those bases covered.

For smaller bosses like omnigul Corective Measure takes her down with 100 bullets from all 3 of you on void burn.

Raid weapons and exotics are still where it's at for PvE.

There not effective then if there totally outclasses by HC, HC do more damage, similar or faster rate of fire, and things like Thorn have a much better perk, no contest really.

There well always be a best weapon, its something very normal in MMO type games, and its just going to be that way with Destiny. If they nerf Thorn or HC in generally then we have 2 burst Pulse rifles too take there place, I do think the problem is worse here cause Thorn can get kills it has no business getting, I've killed people across pretty large maps with it, using only 2 shots, thats stupid. This is not to say that Thorn/TLW don't need nerfing/fixing, but more the point that there well always be a meta, and also be best in slot items. I think they mostly need to drop range, and fix the 111's on TLW, the DOT on Thorn is also very OP, not only can I cripple a player, I can also see exactly where they are so I have a wall hack for awhile.

They also need too nerf shotgun ranges, I was using my PC+1 last night and its dirty the ranges I could kill people from, my personally feeling on the shotgun is Bungie is using it as a way to help people with less skill get kills, it takes very little gun skill to shot someone with a good shotgun and get a kill and thus helps their less skilled players. However the problem is someone skilled can basically 1 man huge teams since the shotgun is soo over powered.

I have Truth and Gjalla but Thunderlord has never dropped for me :( I am not rolling the radegast for any boost or advantage in PvE, I already have loadouts for each burn, PvP, PoE etc. but my default setup is gjalla in heavy so no other exotics ever get used in PvE. So it will add some variety in weapons and tactics to be able to use legendaries in the heavy spot allowing me to use other exotics. For example, did the Omnigul weekly strike last night and instead of the usual gjally from the door, I went invisible and jumped up on the platform and shot 6 rounds of FV in her face then ran away to rinse and repeat. Not really the best and certaintly not the safest tactic but it worked and was more interesting the the normal tactic.

Some guy the other day was killing us with Suros and pretty damn fast it was hitting us like a truck. It appears he must have been hip firing it was that fast and pretty much insta death. I think it's still pretty devastating so long as you don't look down the scope. I'll need to try it out some time. He also must have been firing half a clip into the floor for the half full perk to kick in as well.

Will be interesting to find out if it still is a beast when used in such a way but it will be close range combat only for it then.
