Agreed re GOTY. I'm not sure about the scavenger grind style of Fallout.

Back to raids, 2 guys from work want to run normal for the first time, so my friend and I are going to help them. They have both seen a few videos, so not completely blind. If anyone wants to jump in then let me know below, 2 spaces:

We did get really close with that second shadow, it just takes all 6 people to have a near perfect run which is quite hard to do. Still trying to figure out how we managed to do so much dps to Oryx on that run we went straight through to the shadow but from then on were only hitting about 25% of him each go :confused:

I will get this raid cracked at some point, think mctrials is in the same boat as me - not got past the sisters (not sure about you silas). Once I one raid done and get ToM and hopefully a couple of 302+ drops then it should be straight forward, also changed my jump to control which is much better for height and distance.

You can't 'do dps' on Oryx...the only thing that actually damages him is the bombs. If you went to the shade on the first run it's because you didn't detonate all 4 bombs.

4x4 bombs = dead Oryx.

Main thing with Oryx + Daughters is light level. Once you are 312+ you can knock daughters out in two runs easily. Likewise Oryx...higher light level means people stay alive and you can pop the ogres/knights/shade much more easily.

Yeah I know the bombs are the main thing for Oryx, I just need a little extra dps, particularly for the Ogres during the Oryx fight. Black Spindle and ToM have evaded me so far :(

So do you mean you don't go into the shade providing you hit all 4 bombs 4 times?
 
Good raid last night. Glad to help out HairyHen and skidmarkboy complete their first raid (daughters was the pain in the rear again :))

Oryx fight went really well and thanks to parko24 for the relic running.

Hopefully I explained the Oryx fight well enough for you to follow (there is a lot to take in on a first run) hence why I didn't explain everything at the start as I was expecting more wipes than we had.

As I have stated before this raid is so much more mechanical/timing orientated than the other raids and can be very unforgiving with the slightest of mistakes.

With a few more runs understanding the sections of the oryx fight will be a lot clearer. I know it took me 2/3 runs before I fully understood what was going on. I pretty much just did the role of "kill everything that moves" in my first couple of raids until I actually understood what was going on.

Having assigned roles within the raid helps a lot as there is no confusion over where people need to be (hopefully I wasn't taking over too much with my directing - I know time was a factor at the end).

Now it's time for you both to get those fragments and join the ranks of "Major ToM" :D

If you're hitting all 4 bombs the sequence will be

4 bombs
Meteors (running around like lemmings)
4 bombs
Shade of oryx
4 bombs
Shade of oryx
4 bombs
Shoot oryx

If you don't get all 4 on the first run you seem to go to shade....then next round will be meteors.

You need a total of 16 bomb detonations to finish him off.

Ahh cool, we got within a millimetre of the second Shade of Oryx's health before wiping :(
 
We've all been there....it's tempting to take it a bit casual a la easy mode when you get into the shade, but you really need to hit him with heavy/sniper to get him down in time.

If you have a titan stick a blessing of light bubble inside you can use your Touch of Malice to good effect, just remember to keep dipping in the bubble to keep your health up.

The lack of DPS is probably down to the fact that you aren't over 300 light yet. Once you cross the threshold the difference in DPS is quite noticeable.

The shade normally occurs once you have Oryx at 50% health. Sometimes it can also occur if you don't do enough damage on the first set of bombs.

IIRC in the fight you will always have the shade twice (once at 50% and once again at 25%).

Shade is pretty straight forward if those left outside kill all of the adds which spawn. Those inside can then focus on sniping the Echo without worrying about thralls. A tether can really help in this section. Watch out for the slams though...

Maybe I just need to take a week and grind strikes with 3OC and see if I manage to get any 300+ stuff. Been sat on 296 for about 10 days now.

Huge thanks guys! After several attempts over the past month and only getting far as Golgoroth/Daughters, we're both really chuffed with finally finishing it last night.
Highlight for me must have been when Jelly shouted 'Quick, Hairy, run around the pillar!' and I'm like, 'I'm to do what now??'.
From my death cam, I could see everyone running around in circles like chickens. I thought it was hilarious :)

Honestly after spending a couple of hours attempting to get the Mrs over 297 I gave up when she hit 298... Gauntlets are the one thing she needs but will not drop (despite collecting a vast amount of engrams and blue drops from COO). Realistically to get over 300 you need to get the drops from the raid.

Honestly I don't know. We have started Halo 4 via split screen co-op (works quite well despite some frame rate issues in parts) so I am not sure if she wants to carry on with that tonight or not.
