Deus Ex: Mankind Divided (Square Enix Reveal new Deus Ex)

Which only makes me want it more!

I appreciate your enthusiasm for the IP but, speaking for myself at least, I find it very difficult to ignore the fact that we've had to wait a mammoth five years already. That is a staggering amount of time to flesh this game out.

If you have some information that I don't that gives the impression that SE/EM are working on better addition more suitable to the narrative of the franchise, in a reasonable time frame I'm all ears - but at the moment this DLC and the forthcoming 'A Criminal Past' promise to add nothing major to this offering.

In a funny kind of way I'm conflicted; On one hand I don't want this to sell well and for lots to complain about the narrative so that SE/Eidos get the message but I am also hopeful that you are correct and that we are due a much better addition in the near future and do actually like the gameplay - so if this doesn't receive a good welcome financially there may be a long time for Eidos Montreal get another chance for a crack at the next DE game.

Finally completed it just now. It is a very good game, and the story is actually fine in itself, it just feels uncompleted and doesn't really go anywhere.

One thought I do come away with as well - where has ambition gone? Deus ex was released 16 years ago. The amount of locations you go to is insane. MJ12, Hell's Kitchen, Hong Kong, Paris as well as many other great locations like the ship, the naval yard, that research facility etc.... Too many to think of. Fast forward to now and you get practically the whole game taking place in Prague. It is a very good hub, but compared to other DE games it makes the game feel small. You do get detours to a few other locations and they are welcome, but still it should be better. This is one area Human Revolution was better imo.

Edit- The level that Desperate Measures takes place in is really good. Shame they couldn't put a bit of effort in and put it in the main game!

Damn, the framerate in the Prague opening is rather bad and choppy, I'll have to drop down some settings even further.

Very good game (great soundtrack and I love the emphasis on stealth) but a bit too demanding for how it looks. Also, lip-sync is godawful;p

It's a short game if you point-to-point blast through, only do story missions and don't explore the game world and the side quests. My first play-through took me about 80 hours, in which I explored as much as I could. Even if it had taken me half that time, I would still have been satisfied. It's a good game. Not as good as HR in terms of story, but still good.

How do you manage 80 hours? My "do everything" playthrough, where I explored every nook and cranny, read every email, completed every side-quest and POI, all of that, I don't think it got to 20 hours.

How did you explore every nook and cranny in 20 hours? I'm at 69 hours and only back in Prague at night time. Still finding new things everywhere. Ridiculous amount of collectibles. Still finding random 'story' items that I don't even know what they are yet. I think you might have missed a few things. I find it very hard to believe anyone would find everything in this game speeding through it.

I replayed several areas of the game in order to see the different outcomes. So that probably accounts for a good few hours. I did a full pacifist run, so spent the vast majority of the game sneaking around.

Finally got back to the HQ last night, T29 or whatever it’s called. Must have been hammered first time ‘cos I don’t remember it all but it is absolutely gorgeous. Plenty to explore in there too. Really has the sense of a living, workplace with people running around and loads of cool tech. Very impressive place.

And that Psychiatrist, whatshername, is great! I went in to see her again when I didn’t even have an appointment. And she took the time out of her day to have a chat with me. Chuffed. She is lovely. I think Jensen will be suffering from several cases of PTSD shortly…

Yeah, she's certainly a great listener:D

What exactly does it take to run this game at 1440p around 60fps? I'm on a 1070/4790k and this is frankly quite preposterous. The only stuff I have on max is AO (because I get weird artifacts when I lower it) and LOD.

Shadows on high, textures on v. high CHS off, no MSAA and still no dice:confused: I'm far from ultra at this point and the game doesn't even look particularly amazing, yet still there are drops to 55-48fps, which feel awful and stuttery in Prague.

Is the game just that poorly optimised/really demanding or am I doing somehing wrong?

Forget about Ultra I think that is for nex-gen cards. I quite like being able to come back to a PC game in a year or two and being able to turn everything up to Ultra. Like Crysis.

You should be able to run most on Very High but yes I found Prague stuttery in parts too so I turned down things like shadows as I don't really notice shadows in a game once they're good-enough. Do you need Shadows high?

I know what you mean though, I hate turning settings down as a rule but it's worth it in this game as stuttering ruins my whole day and even when I turned a few settings down the game still looks lovely. Some of the graphics settings in this game KILL performance and IMHO add little to the already-impressive visuals.

Using a shotgun loaded with armour piercing rounds, I have now killed everyone in Prague. Given that my previous session was a full stealth, no kills affair, relentlessly mowing down npc's was quite satisfying. I was disappointed that none of the storyline npc's reacted to my actions, despite me essentially being a walking terrorist incident. However, it was funny / ironic when Miller asked if there was any chance of me flipping out:D Nah, no chance boss...

I’ve seen a few people complain about the visuals in this game – and on another forum too. Even with several settings like shadows etc. turned down (but Ambient Occlusion maxed) I think the game looks superb - once you eliminate the stuttering and get it smooth which is crucial for me, that’s what ruined it for me at the start.

I was wandering around the T29 HQ yesterday for a while just admiring the details, I think it looks great. Do people really think this game doesn’t look good? Or is it something to do with having to turn some settings down (when we really don't want to?)
