** Diablo 4 Thread **

getting pretty bored of the game already. Completed the campaign which was really good on first pass through but doesn't have much replay value. End game is just D3 with small tweaks

I've been flipping between this and last epoch and tbh 3/4 of the D4 classes/builds feel really bad. Sometimes it's just jank/clunky, other times is say resource starvation or missing movement or maybe lack of aoe clear. They have a lot of work to balance and make each class fun to play

Precisely why im holding out finishing the game right now. Just got my mount finally, so taking my time to do some side quests now and probs a few dungeons to unlock some aspects.

I'm beginn8ng to get a bit frustrated at the lack of options to be able to focus on upgrading your gear in any meaningful way.

At the moment I need the unique helmet for my druid build. The options I have are spending obols on helmets (no idea if you can even get uniques that way but I live in hope), running Whispers and hoping one of the reward caches is helmets (and then that its a legendary cache otherwise I'm getting rares) or run helltides and hope there's a helmet chest and then hope that I don't just get a couple of rares from it. Or hope for a random drop from somewhere.

Its all rng on top of rng with no way to really chase what I want. And that's just one piece of equipment. The rest of my stuff I haven't had an upgrade for in what feels like 20 odd levels (71 now).

I'm still enjoying playing to some extent but it's all feeling a bit "kill stuff and cross your fingers" rather than working towards something.

For me the main issue remains the level scaling mechanic. Even if you manage to find that rare drop, chances are it won't make your character feel much stronger, or at least not for long. It's kind of perverse that the polar bear you could one shot at lvl 5 now takes a few hits to kill at lvl 70+. The two key components to any good ARPG are 1. tangible character power progression ( allowing the player to kill monsters quicker/more efficiently and tackle harder content ) and 2. the hunt for rewarding/build defining equipment. D4 doesn't have the former, and the latter is neutered by the lack of the first principle.

It’s interesting that people have a wide range of gripes about the game.

I share some of them, but also have my own which are mainly cheesey mechanics like the abundance of ground degen, and annoying bait shrines that you pull mobs to then have to deal with twice the amount of mobs.

I also feel the game is missing a secret sauce that has been deliberately left out of standard release to pad out content later. Something like gear sets, or whatever their successor is going to be. The builds that exist, at least for sorc, are very janky and don’t flow well.

Gear sets would defiantly be a good addition, hopefully this will come in season 1.

I know it was expected, but the character customisation is a bit lame, there should be lots more options

I was expecting gripes, and I have a bunch, but the game is new and it'll take some time to flesh out and I'm OK with that. Thankfully the game is fun so it's got that good foundation to improve on.

Personally, I hate seeing those "save us!" events in dungeons where there's 1 - 3 NPC's that you have to keep alive. The cursed shrine/chest/health pool events seem too common. I hate being forced to do hell tides for materials to re-reroll gear. There's no where near enough stash space. My biggest gripe though is I don't feel like my character is progressing. My gear gets a little better, so I do content a little harder, then it repeats and I don't feel like I've progressed; especially because build doesn't change at all and has been static since about level 40 and paragon levels don't affect it that much because the nodes have little flavour to them.

I'm fairly new to Diablo, what do the seasons usually give? New boss encounters? dungeons? gear? areas to explore?

We don't know yet, but in D3 participating in each season journey would offer cosmetic rewards, new character titles/banners etc. Nothing earth shattering .. . kinda panders to the crowd who can't help themselves buying MTX. The best part of seasons in D3 was the introduction of a new game mechanic, or certain items/sets would get a buff. The downside was that it would often result in a flavour of the season build.

Agree with a lot of this, I skip the save us events as in higher level dungeons the npcs die too quickly and unless you get mastery chest they aren't worth doing. I think the cursed shrines etc are either way less common or non-existant in nightmare dungeons which is a relief, although the cursed chests that spawn waves can give you a crapload of mobs if you can burn through them quickly. You should in my opinion be able to get souls as a reward from NM dungeons and in Torment level tree packages as well so you have options other than helltide. Stash space, I'm assuming paid for stash tabs are coming and that's why its artificially restricted.

I'm actually OK with the gear progression, Diablo has always for me been about getting a functioning build and then min/maxing it and I have plenty of opportunity to improve slots. At level 75 I'm still not using full ancestrals and having to think about when I imprint also means I'm somewhat careful over gear choices.

The gameplay loop is starting to get a little stale though, pushing NM = pushing grifts but with more downtime. Why it doesnt open a portal to the dungeon in town I have no idea. It also becomes problematic when you want to play with someone at a significantly different level, as the mob levels are fixed and its either faceroll easy(and rubbish exp) for the higher level or punishingly hard for the lower one.

I can't be bothered to grind solely for exp as optimising for that is nearly always finding the most exp per hour and repeating it ad naseum so I'll keep plodding through the levels until I eventually get bored :D

**Edit**

I should also add that it feels like they have consciously ignored a bunch of QoL stuff that PoE has just so people don't draw direct comparisons. They should swallow their pride and learn the lessons imo!

Cursed Chest in Tier 3 Nightmare dungeon has genuinely been the hardest content I've done so far!

How many acts are there after act 4? I feel like im coming close to a mid point in the game having just got my mount and im level 42. I've purposely skipped a lot of the dialogue so when i jump into WT2/T3 it will be abit more interesting.

Sent an invite to the clan. My account name is Lordkimbo#2692.

I'm a former Diablo 2 addict and have fond memories from 20 years ago of spending weekends with my feet up on the table with a glass of Pepsi Max farming for Stone of Jordans. Hopefully Diablo 4 is more fun!

Please can I get invite to OcUK guild? I will also try to request from within the game.
SonicBoom#21307

EDIT: Unable to request from the game as too many pending requests.

I've just beaten Lillith at level 46 so I'm going to get up to 50 then try to unlock wt3. What's the best barbarian spec at this point? Currently WW and it's fine, just feel like trying something new.

Which difficulty to start this on? Multiple things say first playthrough on adventure as most exp is from story/campaign and you get through it quicker?

I have no idea though.
