Did the cold affect your car ?

i smacked a kerb on thursday just after fitting winter tyres
i've noticed that i have steering wheel vibration above 50mph, and under accleration at 70+
however, if i ease off the throttle the vibration goes away. i'm beginning to think this is the CV joint. what does OcUK reckon: CV or badly balanced wheel?

unfortunately i didn't go above 50mph before i smacked the kerb, so i dunno if that's done something to it

DId nothing to mine. Been sitting on the road since last weekend, started first time and had no problems in the heavy snow this afternoon either. It's 15 years old as well!

Tyres did well then!
i misjudged the width of the road as everything was white. nothing to do with the tyres.
they took it well actually, there's a nice dent in the near offside :p

so, CV or wheel balancing?

My 4WD Cefiro has been completely immobilised

because my GF parked her 200SX in front of it on Thursday, on our uphill driveway, and now wont move it because of the snow :(

Still tomorrow should be fun. Donuts in the RWD Volvo ahoy!

Edit: to be fair to her, the driveway is uphill, then it's downhill as you go down the pavement. You have to be very precise to line up the chassis rails with the bits of collapsed pavement and not ground the car on your way out. Plus when the rears do hit the snow the car may well go sideways and smack into a gatepost.

It would be nice to know if its a bit more perky but the inch of ice on the road makes testing a little tricky :(

Cold air is more dense and as such you get more oxygen in the same volume = increased combustability in the engine. I think it aslo combusts more efficiently meaning you get the full potential out of your engine...

plus with a turbo the Intercooler will work much much better, further increasing the benifit for FI cars :D

shame theres no grip for it.

Mines dead :(

It wont start at all. Had to phone work to let them know I can't get in.

I've not used the car since Thursday so it's just sat in the freezing cold all this time (I don't have a garage).

It's a Mazda RX8 so the chances are the bloody thing is flooded, although I have no idea how when it's not been used.

The ignition is trying to start it, but it just wont catch.

I put Anti-Freeze in just before the cold spell so I know it's not that.

Grrrrrrrrrrrrrrr

Why are people 'putting anti freeze' into modern cars? Surely the manufacturers own coolant mix on its own is more than sufficient and includes antifreeze. If you have an Austin Maxi then sure, get some anti freeze in there but why are you putting some anti freeze into an RX8 unless it needed a top up anyway (In which case is the cooling system broken?)
