Did the cold affect your car ?

Tis a puma
my drivers door lock mechanism was frozen this
morning. No biggy but you'd expect it not to being a Saab.

Why not?

Forgot to let the glow plugs do their magic, cue lots of black smoke on startup :p

Apart from that all good, no major trauma yet. My old car used to throw a paddy in the cold!

I'm surprised yours needs them - I havent needed to use glowplugs since my old L reg Mondeo TD - on the current car I just turn the key straight away and it starts as normal :)

I don't see the light unless it's very cold, then it comes on for a couple of seconds.

I'm not even sure if mine comes on at all - don't pay attention to it really! In fact, I thoght the glowplug light was only there to tell me when one of my injectors dies :D

Very nearly put my car through a hedge earlier on this afternoon, can't complain, old back lanes out in the sticks near my parents house, un-treated road, sheet ice & snow and RWD with no traction control and a deliberate heavy right foot..... :o

Great fun! :D

bet the auto 'box is great too.

the one in our E60 is useless. it's impossible to keep it at a steady rev becuase of the torque converter.

Its not too bad to be fair, that said, compared to my previous e38 which had the same engine but a 5 speed "Steptronic" gearbox, its not so good.

The e38 was an absolute blast in the snow in manual mode... (once you managed to get the thing moving) :)

My ancient Peugeot Expert van took about 5 seconds of cranking, followed by a plume of black smoke and lumpy misfiring (and more smoke). Time for glowplugs.

One of the locks freezes, and it immediately locks again, so you have to catch the drivers door when it's still unlocked, then it tries to lock it 10 times in a row in quick succession.

My windscreen washers froze when I ran the tank dry, seems the dregs had less alcohol in.

The hand brake's bowden cables freeze, so I've been using 2nd gear instead.

And I have a profound increase in power, which is great when there's so much grip out.

Edit:
And having just been to check that the hand-brake is indeed off, I can't lock it with the key-remote, key or switches, just arms the alarm. Probably something to do with the centimetre of solid ice covering everything outside.

Very stiff gear change, frozen drivers side window, a little more cranking than usual to get it started... nothing too sinister. :p

Only problem my car had was the winderscreen jets freezing over. This can be particually annoying when driving at 70 and a lorry kicks loada crap in my face.

My fault for not putting the antifreeze stuff in though, not the cars really...

poor golf... bloody thing cant move on my driveway at the moment. my driveway has turned into a big lumpy ice rink so i couldnt take the golf to tesco

the fiesta is buried in the other corner, the audi has been out doing the day to day stuff... S4 making a good sensible daily car

Got outside to find a green icecube at the front of my house... :D

Took about 3-4 miles to get warm, and when I parked at work and shut the door the whole car slid about 1inch to the left!

The ice was fun for a bit, it can go away now :p

Well this cold weather has totally done my car in. The fuel pump won't prime so I think frozen condensation is the culprit for that. A fellow Fiestarse owner is having the same problem. I really hope I don't have to take the fuel tank out again :(
