Owning people who say diesels are for penny pinchers: Priceless.

Ermm two totally different cars, of totally different classes, which don't even compete in the same market.

New BMW 330D = £27585

New Suzuki Baleno 1.6 = £13,000

I don't see how i've just been owned?

You said diesel was for 'penny pinchers'

How many Penny Pinchers drive £27,585 cars around?

How is that relevent?

Fine, I'll pick something else.

Ford Mondeo TDCi LX: £15,645
Ford Mondeo 2.0 LX: £15,145

This is a debate on the merit of the two fuels, not an opportunity to insult the drivers of either.

it was perfectly relivent, you choose to compare two cars.....maz' suzuki and a bmw.....its a totally unfair comparison, there not even in the same class

He merely said diesels are for penny pinchers. I felt it relevent to compare his car with a diesel which prooved it wasn't for penny pinchers.

Penny Pinchers dont buy top of the range BMW's.

Fox - turbo diesel compared with NA Petrol. Compare like for like?

Surely with all the turbos in desels they require more maintence.

Petrol - because you do not get diesel F1 cars

totally agree'd, but because his car isnt worth 27k it doesnt make him any more/less a penny pincher than someones whos is....
anyway this is becoming totally off topic, lets leave it at that

Petrol creates lesser pollution

petrol is a bigger strain on the enviroment coz they are a lot less feul efficient. Theres not much difference in the polution levels nowadays. None of your arguments seem relevant to modern diesels, your living in the past!

Diesels are for penny pinchers, i am one of them i do want to get as mpg as poss, i do not regard that as a bad thing, i do 25k a year, having a diesels saves me a hell of a lot of money.

For ex my 1.9TD gives 45-48mpg
A 2l petrol is gonna give me 35mpg at best, this from experience not just pie in the sky,

So from a £50 fill up every week with a diesel i get and extra 126miles, thats quite a bit if u ask me, and in terms of torque it goes pretty damn well, enough to embarass many:p

The thing is diesels engines are pretty advanced now and are a viable alternative to petrol, in terms of reliability, performance basically in every which way.

Manufacturers now spend the bulk of their R&D on diesel technology, they wouldnt do this if it were inferior

Yes, they cost roughly the same. They are the same sort of insurance group. They are found in the same sort of cars. They offer similar performance. We've gone over this in a previous thread.

Err, nope.

Isn't smoking crack against forum rules? :D

I understand your points about economy but lets not get over excited? If diesels are that good then why -

Do the majority still buy petrol
