What a bag o' Fully star swearys

MW2 is not going to appear on the Wii though, and the Wii is a completely different market than the 360 and PS3 - it is not aimed at being "the PC replacement", it is aimed at doing what Nintendo have always done, offering light and fun games.

You cannot blame Nintendo, who are not even going after FPS market really, for the failings of Microsoft and Sony with the 360 and PS3.

Missed my point entirely.

The Wii has shown Microsoft, Sony & publishers alike that there are quite few million more people out there willing to buy games & console if they are catered for correctly.

I can sortof sympathise with the developers/publishers in creating a unified platform (no point making dedicated server stuff just for PC) when so many people pirate the games.

Both the ps3 and xbox360 have the option for dedicated servers.

although it is expensive to rent them from MS on the 360.

Alkso you can bet the host is going to close the server every time he gets killed.

Possibly not. I think 1up.com commented on some footage they saw of MP on 360 a little while back - it showed the game's host quitting the game, and a message popping up on the left saying the game was searching for a new host... and all the while, the game was continuing uninterrupted for everyone else. No idea how they've implemented it, or how well it works, but people need to chill out a bit until more information is available.

Yes, but those people are not after the gaming experience that the 360 or PS3 offer, nor the games like MW2 can offer.
So whatever point you are trying to make is not really valid

Is there any reason now this game wont be pirated to death? Surely they'll still be punkbuster and some dvd copywriting?

Punkbuster is out afaik and they're using steams VAC (I think).

I'm not buying this now, and I certainly wont be giving in and spending more on the trashy console version.

i always felt MW2 would suck, hence i didn't pre-order. unfortunately i was right, the first game was great (SP, MP was load of crap imo, i'd rather play the ageing counterstrike)

now i'm waiting to see how bad crysis 2 will be, lol.

and the several thousand people who've canceled preorders would have bought it, but may now pirate it.

Yeah, several thousand, considering COD4 sold what, 14million someone said? I am sure they are quivering at a few thousand pre orders being cancelled, especially since they are charging 10% more for the game than any other game.

14 million is the total sales of PC + PS3 + XBox though.

XBox sold 3mil copies in 2007 alone (at this point total sales were 7mil) ... so XBox is probably 40-45% of total COD4 sales (and PS3 sells about 1/3 of XBox so a futher 1 mil - giving PC equal sales to XBox of 3mil).

So if we assume similar figures for the full 14mil, then there are 6mil PC, 6mil Xbox, 2mil PS3 COD4 gamers.

So really there are THOUSANDS who have cancelled out of the 6mil of PC COD4 sales, not quite the 14mil figure you are using.

Yeah but this entitlement factor is what is leading to stuff like this happening.

Under the normal run of things if you don't like something or you are unhappy about a part of it you just don't buy it, you don't have it, and life goes on.

With PC games though it seems peoples natural mentality if they're unhappy about something about the game is "oh Ill just pirate it instead now". Can you not see how illlogical that argument is? If you like it enough to pirate it then why shouldn't you have to pay for it? In the real world if something is too expensive for you - you do without.

It doesn't work like that in anything else - if you order a meal at a restaurant and end up not liking it (but there's nothing actually wrong with it) you don't just decide not to pay for it. If you go and watch a film in the cinema and hate it you're not entitled to a refund, etc.

Again I'm playing Devils Advocate really, I'm no saint but the entitlement logic some people use is totally retarded. You're not entitled to steal something if it's "good enough that it's worth stealing, but not up to your standard to buy".
Well said:)

Whoa, I wanted to buy this as I bought 4 and WaW, no dedi servers? Oh well, off to download it from torrents when it's leaked then...
Scum:mad:

Because you instantly get put into a real, populated server with no stupid rules like "NO GRENADE LAUNCHER" where you can do whatever you want. You can still join games with your clan, you can still have clan matches.

Most of the people ripping this probably have no idea how it works, although I agree for clans it isn't ideal, it's not true that there are no clans on the console versions. Clan matches are as easy to arrange as ever.

He gets killed by someone better than him and kicks them. He can do that because he's the host. Someone doesn't like his connection, so he leaves. When he accesses the matchmaking, it puts him right back in with the same douche he just tried to leave.

No, he can't kick them. If he leaves, the game will pause for 3 seconds and migrate host.

Although incorporating both would be best I guess.

What if I want to play as part of a community, on a server that gets a lot of regular players?
How does match making allow me to do that?

I don't want to play against someone from China with a ping of 1000, on a server hosted in Brazil.
I want to play against (just for arguments sake) OCUK people, on an OCUK server that gets a mix of OCUK regulars and other people who are there just to try out the server.

This is how I LIKE my PC games, this is how I've played Q3, CS, TFC, TF2, CS Source, and so on.

are you able to chose server by ping /number of players? (beyond "none" and "full") do the servers have names saying what maps/game modes they run and if it alternates?

Or does it just shove you into some random 14/32 player server with a ping of 1000?

excellent post...

no its just pure lolige basically like my clan my quad core dedi box is now useless.

they knew exactly the kind of response they would get the only reason theyve created the system is to milk in the cash.

yes we may not no as much about the system but we have heard most things and most are retarded.
