DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

It looks like the game will pick up your RaceNet Leagues, but it doesn't look like you can actually do anything with it yet.

There is online scoreboards for the current challenges that you can filter to Friends, but thats about it.

Is this a game where you need a wheel or will a joypad cut it?

I have gone off car games as you always seem to need a wheel to get the best from them.
It would be nice to get back into the racing game again.

Geoff Crammond please work for Codemasters for F1 2017. :p

I found that a wheel was a hindrance in Dirt 2 and 3, it never really felt connected to the wheels at all. I use a pad on Dirt Rally fine, but I get the impression this would be very good fun with a wheel.

Todays online challenger is.... er.... challenging :p. Airborne at almost every hairpin!

Dont give up on it yes its difficult but this is how it should be with sim physics
you will get there :)

This is no dirt 3 where you can fly around the track like a loon :p

3 hours in to the career mode, I've done it several times with the Mini, have all the unlocks, hired some staff etc but still can't et anywhere near the top 3.

We're talking minutes here not seconds away.

I'm not particularly great at it, it's been years since I've played a rallying game, but with all assists off and manual gears on a 360 pad I can get in the top 3 consistently. I haven't won a rally yet but I'm not very familiar with the layout of the stages. It doesn't really help that both of the 60s cars are FWD and handle awfully, I've just unlocked the MKII Escort and it's a lot better.

I was starting to think this was all a bit too easy, or maybe I was just naturally good at it or something (Which really didn't make sense to me..), then I decided to try one of the Monaco Stages in a Group B Peugeot 205 and got completely schooled back in to realising what a complete nub I am. Wales and Greece are a walk in the park compared to Monaco.:D

Any tips for someone new to wheel racing on a rally game? Finding this game difficult :p can anybody explain what the co-driver means when he talks about the turns? Until I get used to the game, I'll be lowering down my FFB to try keep it on track!

Small number is how tight the turn will be, large numbers are how long it goes on for.

Cut/Don't cut means you either get away with cutting the corner, or not. Dips, jumps, narrows are all fairly self explanatory

saw on the steam forum someone was asking something about online and a DEV replied saying there would be player vs player rallycross

I avoided the mini when people were discussing it's lack of turning ability

Sucks when you get a puncture, sucks even more when the tyre falls off

I've tweaked the camera position & FOV values for the Lancia Stratos cockpit view, so your view will be much closer to the dash.

Made for triple screen users, but should work ok with single screens too.

Triplescreen (4680x1080) pics below :

To install :

Remember to back up your original cameras.xml in case you don't like it

Put the cameras.xml file into - \Steam\SteamApps\common\DiRT Rally\cars\models\str\

To change the FOV, pause the game, select 'Preferences' and adjust the "Camera Field of View" value / slider.

A value of '0' wil give you an FOV of 45.

A value of '1' will give you an FOV of 65.
