DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

I think you'll finish first as that season ends in 20mins. Nice time as well :)

Wohoo! I won something ^.^ Now with DG joining an co back to the back of the field with me :D

I spent ages setting up my T500RS this afternoon and got it just right, I saw I'd been accepted to the League (Thanks!) and jumped straight in to the League Event, as soon as it started I realised the wheel was completely messed up again, it hadn't saved any of my settings! So I had to do the whole thing with a completely messed up wheel and no handbrake! It wouldn't even let me change in-between Stages :( And I didn't want to leave/restart incase it messed it up or wasn't allowed. Gutted. :p

That is annoying, but can you not change the controls in the pause menu? :o

I'm thoroughly enjoying it with the 360 controller. I'm a bit of a twitcher with the sticks though so the standard settings for sensitivity just don't cut it. Feels like I'm lumbering a brick around unless I crank the sensitivity up. I think at the moment I've got 90% sensitivity and 10% linearity. Seems to be working good, but at some points it feels like I have to pull the car out of some form of 'dead lock'. I don't know, I'll toy around more tonight.

Other than that, nothing has had me on the edge on the sofa like this racing for a long time. I missed a decent racer like this! No flash backs, nothing. You even get a smacked wrist for restarting! You lose 1,000 credits out of a 5,000 credit bonus. Which is bloody good! No more hand holding, if you **** up. It's on your head and you need to make it up in the next stage. And you better hope you spend your time wisely if you crash.

Which brings me onto stages and teams. I've not delved into the teams yet but my god the stages! No longer 60 second wonders. Full 15 minute stages. SOOOOO GOOOOD.

This does sound excellent. Are there any really long stages? One of the things missing from CMR1 was the long stages that I liked back in Network Q RAC Rally, which had a couple of near-1-hour stages.

I don't think there are any stages quite that long but there are a few that are probably around 15mins. Most stages are 4-5 minutes and run in a 4-6 route rally format.

There doesn't seem to be a reset of points on the leaderboard. I'm going to assume it resets per season.

A Season can have X amount of Events, an Event can have X amount of stages.

So far we have only been experimenting with 1 Event and X stages.

Potentially we could have 10 Events with 4 stages run across the next 10 weekends.

Thoughts?

I think that might be a little tricky to keep the numbers up and with new content coming each month the league may become stale due to missing the content. I would say max 4 events over 4 weeks?

Or maybe just 1-2 events with 6 stages even though that would require more time for one sitting. I would probably keeps the seasons smaller with a theme around them to feel more unique and for it to feel less of a chore popping on each week to submit a time. This also then opens the possibilities for the new content or less issues if resets hit due to changes/patches.

Loving it. But playing with controller, I've had to up the sensitive and linearity up to almost max as I prefer twitchy response.

But I've noticed the cars will 'steer' into corners. Like there is assisted steering like the noon settings had in F1 games. Is there a way to disable this?

I found this as well so I turned the Stability control off in the game preferences it fixed it for me.

Just got my TH8A, can we really not use H shifters in this game?

Go into user profile -> preferences. There you can set your gearing type - sequential, h-shifter, etc...

Then into options -> controls to assign the mappings for the clutch, gears, etc...

Makes no sense the gearing selection is not in the control options, but hopefully common sense with kick in over at Codies & they move it eventually.

can't say I've felt it with a keyboard.

obviously if your car isn't pointing straight and you full throttle on a lose surface the back end is likely to want to drift to a side, but if you let off the throttle it stops instantly.

the different wheel drive cars feel different too with the 4wd they seem to not want to slide at all like they have far to much grip, they don't feel like they are trying to steer?

No, imagine F1 2012/13/14 etc, there is an option to help with steering. It's the same, pulls you into corners to 'aid' you. It's subtle but it's enough to notice.

Just finished doing the league stages for today, think I finished at 25 minutes or so, pretty slow but I didn't want to bin it and it was my first time driving a Group A car. :D
