DiRT Rally Hits Steam Early Access

What he said. :P :) :(
Anyone semi literate let me know how this compares to Richard Burns and how it plays as a sim. I see lots of people claiming its realistic, then I read people are using 200 degrees for steering. Some say the FF is great some say terrible.

Any chance of an unbiased review.

Just give it a whirl - with the new Steam Refunds (taken you hate it and manage to play less than two hours in the first session) you can just return it if you think it sucks. My guess is you'll keep it.

The FFB is what you make it, same with feeling from wheels and such, since you can tweak it to however you want it pretty much.

Mind you, this is Early Release, it is a work in progress!

Cant afford a good wheel yet so been trying on pad.. Anyone got some good settings? feels like its just super twitchy and have to stab around corners like using d-pad:( Using razer sabertooth but should be pretty much same as xbox pad.

I would recommend a Driving Force GT, heard tons of good stuff about them, and can be found cheap online on places such as Ebay, they are about £40-60 I think

Itching to give this a try, but previous experience of stringing together sections of oppo lock and left foot braking with a controller are putting me off, and I don't have the space or funds for a wheel to do it justice. I don't want to play it if I can't be competitive.

Try these car settings for Dirt a good starting point better than the stock set up-

Tramac-
Example=1fR means 1 click from the right / 2fL means 2 click from the left.

Brake Bias > 1fR gives even better stability under braking that is important on ice.
Suspension / Damping > 3fR makes them pretty firm which is fine on tarmac as it's all about maximizing grip. Also there are way less bumps to contend on stages like that.
Ride Height > 2fL (both front and rear) will lower the center of mass which will greatly increase stability.

Greece-

Brake Bias > 2fR
Suspension / Damping > 5fL (in the middle)
Ride Height > 1fR (both front and rear)

Is this with everything centred?

I've been going off what i learned running rc's, although i will say that there is a scale difference in handling even if in theory they should be the same (mostly due to strange weight distrobutions).

I've been running quite stiff springs on the delta (about 3-4 notches from the far right), very stiff anti roll bars, and stiff ish shocks with fast rebounds. Back being generally 1-2 notches stiffer in everything than front.

Hard drive lock on the rear, loose on the front, neutral rolling on both and reversed for braking.

Thats been seeing me quite well (albeit nowhere near as well as some here) in wales, and greece just about. I dont like tarmac rallying so im not so fussed about that.

disappointed as I tried this last night but it wouldn't start due to error 41.. got a refund. Had to go back to dirt 3 instead but this looks better.
I used to play RBR which was brutal.. Would like proper length rally stages (I know RBR doesn't have them and obviously they'd never get into a game like this.. the closest I've played is downloaded tracks in GT Legends which would be a good 10-15 minute drive)

Ah i think you might be right... memory lapse over the stage length in rbr. Don't remember any stages running in to 30 mins though and there aren't as many stages as a real rally. I dont think CM would go for it anyway

Well ive managed to get a DFGT for £40, so is there any driver i need for it when it comes? Support site says no drivers needed but i remember reading something about needing a profiler open when setting it up? Anyone know of this?

Urgh. Updated to the 15.7 AMD drivers and was playing around with VSR on my 7950. Decided i didnt like it and turned it off, but now Dirt Rally won't go fullscreen again.

I've tried rolling back the drivers but its still not working. Booo

you press alt + enter when its highlighted. or delete hardware profile. that will set it back to default.

its in my documents/mygames/DiRTRALLY/hardwaresettings

I believe the rally team say that the stages are limited by capabilities of the engine.

For me as is, 10 minutes is about right for a game.. it's just so intense:)

You want longer stages though, rally championship (mobile 1) that game definitely goes there, and it's decent still after the best part of 16 years.

ok, so after having got fed up with the delta i bought a 6r4 and my god is it easier to drive, you can sustain nice long drifts with hardly any adjustment and it actually goes round hairpins!

maybe its being right hand drive that helps, feels more natural, or maybe us brits were still ok at building cars back in the 80's i dunno but something makes that car good.

bit unstable at speed though.
