mmmm dump the newish 4890 and get a 5870 - and keep the 3.5 gig Q6600

or dump the Q, keep the 4890, and get an I7

I think the first one will give me biggest improvement (well we'll see when benchmarks are released after NDA is lifted)

Sure I paid something insanely silly like £420 on my X1900XTX...

£270 for a top end card that performs as good as it will is awesome.

ATI--------Price Bracket------NVIDIA
100$ HD4850 - (100$) - GTS250 110$
125$ HD4970 - (150$) - GTX260 165$
195$ HD4890 - (200$) - GTX275 210$
300$ HD5850 - (300$) - GTX285 320$
400$ HD5870 - (400$) - GTX295 450$

$250 and $350 could be plausable depending how aggresive ATI are intending to be.

This seems roughly the price structure so far ,prices taken as the cheapest cards i can get from a common site in america (I buy stuff there so i use $).

The prices of 300$ and 400$ makes sense as the HD5k series seems to be competing with the 285 and 295, i think they will be a bargins at these prices forcing nvidia to drop even more prices much like what happened with the HD4k series, at the moment the 300 and 400$ price brackets have little competition, other than the option to spend less money get less performance.

It seems a very common thing that at each price bracket ATI are undercutting nvidia and doing there best to make there cards the most viable options :).

That was cheap, they were close to 500 quid were they not at launch, which tbh is ridiculous.

Yeah got it off the bay about 6 months after release, good price, sold it about 8 months later for 200 quid and got the 280 which I still have and will have until I build a new i7/win7 rig end of the year ish.

And it dropped like a stone a month or so later I paid £234.99 from OcUK and was the reason I signed up here :p
Ain't that the way of it. I always say I'll wait a few weeks after release to buy. Never do :D

I should print of a few receipts and post them around my monitor to help me resist.

This was a cancelled order, I got one for £425 on release iirc. Still point is, £300 is a good price for a new top end card.
