Discussion On The ATI Radeon 5*** Series Before They Have Been Released Thread

Don't forget about the obvious very early drivers.

As I alluded to in the other thread, it seems to be as big a jump over the 295, as the 280 was over the 9800GX2.

Personally, I don't get particularly excited about early benchmarks since they will all become irrelevant once review websites like Anandtech, Bit-Tech, Firing Squad, The Tech Report etc start publishing their in-depth reviews of these graphics cards.

Edit: That's not to say I'm not excited about ATI's new graphics cards because I am getting excited. (I thought I would add that part since otherwise I'm sure I sound like a miserable old git) :p:D

I just get excited about new products and tech.

DX11 & Eyefinity :D

Would be more interesting to see 285 tri-SLI scores (rather than the quad SLI 295) up against the 5870 cf as that would be similiar price with the current drop in 285 prices.

Really? As in against two 5870s?

The cheapest 285 I can see on here is £199, the 5870 would have to be pushing £300 for them to be in the band(let alone needing a board with the tri SLI and a powerful enough PSU). I got crucified on here earlier for pushing for a £249 mark 5870 let alone £299 :D

I know this is reading an awful lot into a wooly graph but.

We know cypress is 5870 and 5850. The above graph shows it around $300 mark so logically the 5870 is above that and the 5850 below that.

Looking at the $400 line the top of cypress seems quite a way off it so hopeful the rumours about the 5870 costing $400 are out and it will be more like $325 :D

I don't think those prices are correct. Reading from the middle of the images, Hemlock (X2's) will be $450, and Cypress will be $300. X2 versions are usually around about double the price of their single GPU counterparts, so I can't see those prices being correct.

I'm going to guess $350 for the 5870.

If the 5870 is equal to Nvidias GTX295 would it saturate a single 16 PCI-E lane? Just I'm about to upgrade (Motherboard/CPU/Memory) and still not decided which way to go X58 or P55 I will only be using one card so was leaning towards the P55, but reading about the new ATI cards has got me confused.............yet again
