ok from what i gather these cards are going to be really powerful, so power infact that if im thinking right a beefy cpu is required so that they wont be limited?

You seem to have missed one:
You owe it to yourself to get it at least 3.6 GHzProbably not at 2.4GHz, but it's a well known chip for overclocking like a beast, so at a higher clock speed I imagine you'll see some improvement..
