Discussion On The ATI Radeon 5*** Series Before They Have Been Released Thread

i'm looking at a 5870 or 5890 come jan time i think for me. hope nvidias is out by then to make these bad boys cheaper. considering you can get 50" 1080p plasmas for less than 600 notes now, 3 of those attached to one of these cards would be sweet :D

Just looked up some benchies on 4870 vs GTX 280 and there the price did equate to performance, as GTX 260 was the same price as the 4870 and they performed around the same speed but the 280 was 20% faster than both.. is it basically the same this time around with the 5870's? or maybe slightly better off

no one knows for sure do they? not till anand et al release their reviews on the 23rd i think. anything before then is something i'll look at but not taking as gospel

if the nda and release date is meant to be the 23rd.... surely these wont go up for pre order as the price is under nda :D

Not sure if GPUZ supports HD58x0 series yet, so it could be fake. Havn't looked on techPowerUp! recently to see what W1zzard has said about it.

I'm just waiting till the 22nd/23rd, I've got enough money to either crossfire two 5850's, or get one 5870..

Either that, or I keep my 4870x2 and 5 way RAID0 Sammy F1 1TB's.

It may be a bit of a squeeze as that is not a big case, the card looks to be about an inch longer than a standard ATX motherboard, luckily the power sockets are on the outside rather than the end though.

You may manage it, I would wait until we have exact measurements so you can check if you can get it in, if not there are plenty of bigger cases about for very little cash.

the 5870 is a inch smaller than a 4870x2 so if that fitted then this card will aswell.

Cool thanks. I know there are bigger case options but I want to go for the sileo because it has sound dampening in it and is suppose to be very quiet. However would putting a 5870 in a case like this be advisable as it's airflow isn't as good as some other cases?

That Vantage score (if true) is a little lower than I was expecting, I was thinking closer to 20,000. Still it's slightly faster than a 4870x2, though.

Maybe, but remember we are talking about a single GPU here so no need to worry about xfire scaling, which is much better in 3dmark than any game.

Well, I'm running Windows 7, and games seem to scale far better than they ever did in Vista, I'm able to run Crysis @ 1920x1080 maxed out pretty smoothly. So it's not like I'm urgent to upgrade, I just like getting company's flagships upon release and then upgrading to there next flagship the next year.

You could always wait a few weeks for the 5870x2. :D

With the vantage scores it looks to be the same story as before, i suppose nVidias cards are going to be a good 40% faster when they come out. but it's to be expected if they arent out for another few months yet

Will the 5870x2 (which if a single 5870 is comparable to a 4870x2 then x 5870x2 be comparable to Crossfired 4870x2s) not be CPU limited like crossifred 4870x2s?
