Discussion On The ATI Radeon 5*** Series Before They Have Been Released Thread

Same benchies as before I think... just some totals and stuff added...

I'm still wondering who on earth benches with 8x AF... I can't see the point of using anything other than 0x or 16x... ok visually it might negate some of the patterns on distant objects while still making closer stuff look nicer but for performance comparisons its kinda odd.

X8 AF Is the most commonly used.

Pretty much everyone I know either uses 0x/0x, 4x/16x or 8x/16x... I can't think of one person that I know of that uses 8x AF.

So those previous Vantage scores were spot on then. As I thought it looks to be slightly slower than a 295GTX (@19x12) with beta drivers, nice! Now lets just hope I wasn't far off with the price.

Price is probably quite high to start off with? Like say around £300+?

Also I read through like 10 pages and the front page and can't see a release date on these?
Well the only one I saw was this Wednesday? Is this true? :o

I've been trying to keep up with this topic but it's not exactly easy. Anyway, what sort of PSU are we talking about for a 5870X2? I have a 1000W at the moment but was quite taken a back by the power requirements suggested, so I was wondering: will it be enough? I have a Core i7 @ 4GHz and I know that draws a bit of power, as my old 580W Hiper wasn't up to the job. I don't really want to be spending £200 getting a 1500W or 2000W PSU.

hi i cant find a straight answer anywhere, maybe because no one knows for certs yet but:

-> how much will a 5*** series card cost, are we talking > £300
-> would a 2gb 4890 be a good upgrade from my current gtx 260?
-> when do the 5*** series come to overclockers?

The 5850 is probably going to be <£300, the 5870 models might not be.

No, wait for the 5xxx series to come out.

Read the ******* thread, this date has been stated more times than anything else.
