I can't seem to keep up with this thread anymore..
whats happening? :(

Basically more rumoured specs and what not.

ATI today did reveal Eyeinfinity, which the new 58xx series cards use.

US release date is 22nd, EU is 23rd. Would seem the NDA on the cards ends then, so expect reviews and to be able to buy the cards then. No doubt there will be more leaks of info in the mean time.

£310, you're forgetting VAT.

We wer eunder the impression the NDA would be lifted today, hence the thread.

Then i guess im only getting 1 then. :/
its bloody madness, how can they charge £310 for the 5870 and charge £100 extra for the X2 version ???? they have to be mad to get people to buy at that price.

I concur with your findings :D

Looks like Ivana Milicevic. Pretty damn good render of her too, with exact model and shadow detail. Wonder how they did it.

What a waste of hype. Seriously...all that talk of release dates and spec/bench blow out's and all we get is this multi screen tosh for people with more money than sense.

Plenty of people already do and it's not just for gaming.

Very small portion of people have multiple monitors and the vast majority of those that do, do so for productivity, not gaming. Dissapointed ATi have to churn out this gimmick to get people saying "OMGWTFBBQ, that's cool but I can't afford it or won't actually have it". Multi-monitor setup like that is nothing new or exciting. One good thing though is that it encourages manufacturers to create thinner and thinner bezels, cos let's face it, they are horrible, especially in situations like this.

prices will go down.. of course if you are buying on release you will be wasting your moneys..

Whens the best time to buy? When do the prices usually stabilise?

Eyefinity is the only way to get those ultra high resolutions right now, 30" screens are the suitable max resolution wise so to go beyond that multiple screens are needed and how else are ATI going to show off the capabilities of these new cards on a single screen resolution?

Review sites will post benchmarks over the next few days, ATI's job is to market the product and from my experience in the past people have always commented things like "oh nvidia/ati posted x game benches, they can't be real...I'll wait for PROPER review sites to post benchmarks" - You just cannot please people because no matter what you do someone will always complain about something.

Any way, am I the only one who is mightly impressed by Eyeinfinity?

I'm also impressed, might get a 2GB 5870 for my 30" monitor and assuming ATI's drivers still aint complete turd i'll have two monitors and a 46" 1080p TV connected to the card.

And another benefit.. with my 295 for instance i can connect 2 monitors and the TV to the HDMI, but to get the TV to work i have to physically unplug a DVI cable as only two outputs are possible, which i wont have to do with eyefinity (**** name).

Multi Monitors are nothing new, but actually in a properly usable format like that they are currently exceedingly limited, you basically have the option of Matrox TripleHead2Go (which is ~£150, and only supports 3x 1680x1050) or SoftTH which is software that requires tweaking and also has a substantial performance hit over the hardware version.

Eyefinity gives the flexibility of SoftTH but with no performance drop, and that is a big chunk better than anything else available.

I think you'll also find that the majority of sim gamers (Racing and Flight especially) either would love to have multi-monitor, and in the case of quite a few already run it with either of the two options above, and are looking forward to doing it all within the graphics card.

It'll also benefit quite a few other games as well, although some (like FPS, and Racing sims for that matter) wouldn't really suit a 3x2 setup like they show, but 3x1 or even 5x1 would be awesome...

Of course 3x3 would be best for an FPS :p
