Disgusting display of Racism

You expect me to believe that you remember people in a thread from 3 years ago advocating the introduction of white only scholarships and then tried to apply it to this thread.

If anyone wants to actually make this thread have a point set up a gofundme page for the "ocuk GD white kids scholarship fund" go on make a meaningful change if thats what you belive one is...

But you won't, the op won't, robo won't.
Considering that you called me out as wanting white only scholarships however i never said that in this thread or the one you linked I'm going to say that your memory ain't that great.

You seem easily entertained. Good on you.

Why can't they go to any race who needs it though?

We know that there are 8-9 times more white people living in poverty in the uk than black people so, these funds don't address the problem of poverty.

They just exacerbate that it is acceptable to discriminate based upon race. Which is the opposite if what we all want.

Eligibility Criteria
To be eligible for a Stormzy Scholarship, applicants must:
  1. Have one of the following categories of ethnicity:
    • Black African
    • Black Caribbean
    • Black Other
    • Mixed – White and Black Caribbean
    • Mixed – White and Black African
    • Other mixed background (to include Black African, Black Caribbean or Black Other)

I'm aware of the eligibility criteria and thirty scholarships (over three years) aren't going to address the problem of poverty whoever they go to.

The scholarships could go to any race if Stormzy chose to spend his money that way but he chooses to spend his money on poor black/mixed race students. There are other scholarships.

Are you only concerned these scholarships aren't available to white students? There are other ethnicities.

Should be open to everyone.

No I'm concerned that there is an acceptance that funds will be made available for students, businesses etc based upon the criteria of race.

The common trend is that they all discriminate against non BAME.

This particular one discriminates against everyone who is not black and is reprehensible.

Let's be honest, if you get to Cambridge from any sort of poor disadvantaged background you've earned this level of reward for battling against all the odds. Any sort of help for the sheer amount of debt graduates leave with (not just the tuition fees) is welcome. Some people have their parents to help, some help themselves, others have rich celebrities helping them out. There's no need to be negative about it, see the positives and look for more ways to develop social mobility.

“The programme is open to UK students of black or mixed race heritage with a confirmed place at the university.”

Excludes on race = racist.

I can understand the intentions but poor people of any colour would have clearly been far more acceptable. It’s essentially just positive discrimination which as we all know is simply a more acceptable term for racism against the supposed oppressive race.

Honestly as with anything like (uni fees) this it is wealth that is the deciding factor not race.

So why not open it to everyone from a disadvantaged background? The entry requirement is skin colour = racist.

Same reason many people make scholarships/charities for demographics that they themselves fit into.

Stormzy wants to help kids like himself as he relates to them.

The fact that no white people want to do the same for other poor white people isn't really his problem is it?

If everyone offended by this chipped in a fiver you'd easily get a few scholarships

How many times do you have to be told that these are also being supported by private corporations?

I guess Stormzy doesn't want to :/ Whether he's a racist or not, only he knows. What he's doing is good for those kids but at the same time clearly showing that discrimination on the basis of skin colour is acceptable in his eyes. It's how we got here as a society and it'll be where we are heading back to. Some posters in here are so terrified that they are in support of discrimination that they poke fun, ridicule and dismiss the people pointing that out to them - it's better to point the finger than run the risk of being labelled "problematic".

Maybe Ed Sheeran will come along and set something up that's open for poor kids, maybe Marcus Rashford will. I hope they do.
