Dissapointed....

Thing is, that it will take a week from now if I want to test it on another rig - also last time i went to try the 2nd card, he wouldnt get display on his monitor. so if that happens again, i would waste a lot of time. Should I get a refund first and then see if I get the same thing with the new card I will buy ? If so I could always just RMA the mobo and PSU I guess if something is wrong in there.

I had a coolermaster psu, it blew my board, cpu, memory, all confirmed as faulty when i rmaed them, it took about a month to sort out, what happened with my psu was the pc went a little quite and i took a peek in side and noticed the fan in the psu had stopped spinning, did a restart and pc started back up and so did the fan, but then it would just randomly crash with blue screens, tried fixing it with reinstalls and everything and nothing worked, i then decided to just rma it all back explaining first what had happened and was told to send back psu, motherboard, cpu, and ram, about a week later they confirmed psu had a fault and in turn had damaged motherboard, ram and cpu, and was all replaced, thing is the graphics card was fine.

Also notice you are running an adapter, vga/dvi, i think you should try to test dvi to dvi, it could be just something silly like the monitor not liking dvi to vga

Yeah I know it can be a simple thing like that, but how come last 2 cards were confirmed faulty ? Someone before said its like 1-5% chance. Its just a question if something is frying the cards :-/

rofl!
dont ocuk even test the cards u send back?
if they show up with teh same faults then maybe your pc is killing them?
i would guess its your tft playing up, maybe try on another monitor or a tv?

he has tried another monitor and cable, but this thread is so large its hard to find out what has and hasnt been done.

hmm how annoying! maybe time to take it to a pc repair shop, let them have a look?

If it were me I'd request a full refund, plus any postage costs, and go for another card. Life's too short to be ******* about with dodgy gfx cards, one after the other.

If OcUK offered any level of customer service then they should recognise that something's afoot in the wind here and do something to help you. At the very least they can confirm a card is working before they send you it, afterall it's in their interest as the postage costs are mounting up quite a bit, which OcUK are responsible for paying btw.

If OcUK won't help you and you have no other means to pinpoint the problem, then you've got no choice but to cut your losses, get a refund and go for a different card.

Update

Ok called OcUK and talked to one of the advisers.

This is what Ill do: (Even though it means waiting)
Check GPU at friends house, see if he gets lines. If he does, send the card for a refund, buy from a different manufacturer, ATI, or EVGA GTX460.
If its causing lining, something is killing the cards. RMA mobo and PSU

What do you guys think

i think that was mentioned page 1 post 2 :P

also, pls update the bios and try a different psu while u wait for ur friend to let u use his card

Dont have a different PSU

Still a bit worried with flashing the bios : / Also it might be the PCI-e slot that MAYBE is frinyg cards, so If I flashed my bios I would void my mobo warranty.

Flashing the bios is nerve racking, but new boards have the dual bios thing so if it buggers up, you can still recover it.

I have flashed the bios on 3 asus boards recently using the ezflash option in the bios and its worked a treat. Infact I have flashed my P5K-E wifi about 3 times now on its own!

Never had a prob either flashing the bios...Anyway, you should try any replacement G-card in your m8's machine first...that way you'll know yours has not fried it first should it be faulty on his. If it's ok on his & then does'nt work on yours, you can then diagnose if your system is frying it or not depending on how it works in your m8's second time round. If still ok, something else is amiss.

Just had a thought...maybe nothing but have you tried resetting the CMOS?

Occasionally I've had a problem or two that a CMOS reset has resolved.

Can't hurt to try anyway. :)

if u were to call asus and say u had a problem with their board they would recommend u to flash the bios.

they recommended me to flash the bios on my gfx card, and all mb manufacturers i ever contacted always recommended a bios flas when i had an issue.

flashed the bios more than 10 times on my current dfi board.

just follow the instructions.

edit: about the psu.. hows ur mate using his pc without a psu?

Hamster wheel.

OcUK have to help you even if it means swapping everything and them paying all postage until you have a working computer with faults.

Goodluck 4th time lucky :o

You cant be serious can you? Sure, if OCuk built the system but they did not, this guy bought the components seperatly, its down to him to do all fault finding and if he sends back a working part then he is responsible for shipping costs.
