Distasteful vegan TV ad

But I can't do anything about those, but I can easily not eat meat which combined with others doing the same hopefully does it's bit to reduce the harm we cause to animals.

You might be able. Don’t build extensions or use products with cement. Buy an electric car, solar panels and electric heating. Don’t waste food and recycle as much as possible.

Honestly, anything of that list is a much larger slice of the moral pie than veganism.

The key is also to try and convince people in a reasonable way and not alienate them.

I fully support anyone supporting or believing in their cause, it's why I'm fairly quiet on the whole climate thing, as apart from the nutters on highways, it's now evolved in to a fairly reasonable discussion and is actually making progress. But attacking anyone right off the bat is just going to get their backs up, as witnessed here.

I've tried telling Johno quite reasonably that he would benefit from turning it down a bit and approaching this topic which he is so clearly passionate about in a more approachable manner but he's not capable of this. He only has two modes - silent, or "YOU'RE ALL MASS MURDERING ANIMALS IN HORRIBLE AND PAINFUL WAYS YOU MONSTERS".

That's why he's just a joke at this point. Have an adult discussion, get an adult response.

Indeed.
You need a few crazies to grab the headlines and bring it into the news. Without those people you wouldn't get the shock videos.. Personally, videos have the biggest impact on me.

But day to day non vegans and wannabe vegans interacting with these people directly, is not conductive tho thier cause.

The moderate people, who respect individuals wishes, comment when asked and support others small steps, those are the ones that help in a more direct way.

You need both, but avoid the extremists directly.

I see what you are saying, but not really any of those things in the list are relevant to me, apart from recycling which I do as a matter of course.

It's still easier for me just to not eat meat, it's literally no effort, and I feel much better for it.

Thanks, I will look at this, although I can't quite see the link from here.

It's also interesting to learn that the founder had links to the Adventist, but to claim that has an impact on the way the organisation functions 100 years later I think is a bit of a stretch.
We're in to head in the sand territory here.
7thDA are behind most of the US "fake food" industries and support that through billions of dollars in lobbying and "research" arms. They are incredibly proud of their global reach so it actually doesn't take much research to join the dots.

Why are we into head in sand territory? I literally posted that I will look into it (although the link just takes me to page 6 of this thread not to anything specific)

Well those issues are relevant to all of us. Critically relevant in fact. I get people just want a comfortable life though.

What I meant is that I'm not building extensions, or purchasing anything using cement. I'm not in a position to buy an electric car or solar panels and I don't use electric heating.

It took me a some time but I’ve cut my emissions by 70% now.

I'm far from perfect, and never claim to be - and of course things I do have an impact on the environment and cause and contribute to the deaths of animals. Hell even cutting my grass in the garden will cause animal deaths.

The point for me is that I can easily choose not to actively support an industry that I find abhorrent. I have no need to eat animals, I feel better for not doing so. I am not looking for any slice of moral pie.

If you or others want to go and get an electric car and feel like you are doing more to prevent animal deaths and suffering than being vegan then fine. Maybe you are, but I am still doing my part.

The team meat dinosaurs on here won't be changed as they lack the ability to question anything, they probably donate to save the cute furry animal charity in Africa and then tuck into their dead purchases.
They would fit perfectly into an orwellian dystopian society, blindly non questioning robots in human form without the emotional depth or intellect to grasp right and wrong.
Oxygen theives, let's just pin our hopes on future generations
I can’t believe you would actually post trash like this. I have the ability to question everything and have done with eating meat. But after lots of videos and reading, I still want to eat meat. I try to buy higher welfare meat where I can but I do not want to stop eating it, and I’ve done research to know what goes on. I don’t need people like you perpetually shoving the same information into my face, it’s not going to change my mind.

Finally, as for your oxygen thief comment, how dare you label meat eaters oxygen thieves. If you truly believe that then you must think 86% of the UK population are oxygen thieves. Absolutely pathetic. It’s a brutal and horrible thing to label innocent people. Shameful nonsense

I’m doing it because I want to do as much as I can to leave the coming generations a chance.

I’ll keep this electric car until it’s no longer serviceable and well beyond the point the economics make sense. It’s not a case of buying electric cars or anything but more about conservation of resources and energy.

I've been quite open that I ate meat for many decades so any attack on my part is also aimed at my past self ,I am not trying to connect with anyone it's just the truth but I am glad I made the switch, muscle mass up fat down (although I took meds that spiked it back up but quit them)
Mainly a clear conscience though ,oh yeah and got rid of eczema, bonus

But I also have a clear conscience about eating meat, we don‘t all have to confirm to your ideals

Well you're doing better than me, and cutting your emissions by 70% is commendable, so bloody well done.

My choice to go vegan wasn't motivated by environmental impacts, it was because of animal welfare, I just don't see a genuine reason (other than taste) of why I needed to continue to eat meat.

To be honest I couldn't have done it 10 years ago because it would've been too much effort, I am a pretty lazy sod and only do it now as it takes very little for me to do so.

The problem is it’s not enough and comfortable veganism will add to the worlds problems.

More vegans and more people eating less meat would help climate change a lot.

Not everyone can go vegan. As some places you can't farm and eating grazers is viable.. But using land to feed animals that we then eat, rather than eating crops directly is a big carbon/GHG emitting source
