Divinity: Original Sin 2

Bumping this, playing on classic, with Fane, Beast, Red prince and Lohse a my group. Reallying enjoying the combat, getting to the point now where most fights are fairly straight forward though. Just finished the nameless isle, not yet in arx. Had one very satisfying moment on the nameless isle though.

Temple of Duna has those guardians that hit you if you come to close, and you're not a dwarf, importantly, it doesn't trigger combat. I just teleported the close ones out the way and proceeded through. Came to the knight fight, he attacks, runs near a statue, doesn't get attacked as he's a dwarf. Use fane (scoundrel build), backlash behind, strike, use adrenaline and chicken claw him. Chickens aren't dwarves. The statue starts hitting him, and just keeps going until he's dead, since everything else is locked in due to combat :D.

currently doing a regular tactician run with a solo 2-hand knight human, been quite fun and so far not too hard fight wise, requires a bit of cheesing but done quite a lot of reapers coast atm. :)

Been playing through again over the last few days. This is without a doubt one of the most absorbing games ever imo.

I'm playing with Divine War mod, which I'm on the fence about atm. It radically changes armour and stats. I'm liking it but I think it might be a bit unbalanced.

Just finished at 129 hours with a ton of quests missed out. I also used the Divine War mod and tbh I preferred the simplicity it introduced.

I now desperately need a replacement fix. I've completed POE and POEII, and D:OS I, so any ideas on very comparable games would be greatly appreciated.

Still, what a game!

Have you done all the PoE1 and 2 DLC? Very good imo.

I too am in your predicament... I have completed PoE1 twice, PoE2 twice and now am on my second D2 playthrough. I did look at Torment:TON but I am unsure I would like the more SiFi setting? Have you tried Tyranny? I personally cannot get into it for some reason, but you may enjoy it?

Wasteland 2 is excellent. Second best of the recent isometric RPGs imo(behind this). A really great rpg. It has completely turnabsed combat like Divinity OS2, a good story, really great reactivity and rpg mechanics. Can't recommend it enough.

I thought Torment:TON was a terrible game tbh. Tyranny might be good but I didn't get on with it myself. Lots of people rate it highly though.

I'm getting a bit more used to Divine War now. I will keep it. I came close to scrapping it a nd starting again, but I have persevered.

I would second Wasteland 2. Liked it a lot.

Tyranny I really liked what there was of it, but have to say in the end it was too damned short and left too many elements of its systems under-developed. It left me wanting more, but it felt like the ending was rushed and my overall impression was that it promised more than it could deliver in the end. I reckon you could finish the main story in 15-20 hours if you didn't faff around with respeccing and nerding the system like I did, which is nowhere near enough to develop a properly deep RPG experience.

We need more of this genre!

I'm guessing you've played all the classics? Baldur's Gate, Planescape: Torment, Neverwinter Nights series, Dragon Age, etc.?

Drakensang is often overlooked and is pretty good after a somewhat slow start and getting to grips with a bit of an obtuse rule-set. I ended up really enjoyin it.

Pathfinder: Kingmaker is next on my list, so I hope that's good too. Reivews look a bit mixed, though.

Could I play the first DOS after finishing the second, or would it be a waste if I've done the second already?

Not a waste as its a largely unconnected story but you may find that the much reduced game mechanics of DOS1 feel like quite a step down after DOS2. DOS1 was a superb game but DOS2 was a real step up imo.

In Act 2 now... I had to start again due to a mod problem. But tbh, I haven't minded at all I've been enjoying it so much. This playthrough is just reinforcing my view that this is one of the best games ever made. This is my first time playing Definitive Edition, I played original at release.

A few things I'm noticing more this time round -
The characters and companions are really well written, I underappreciated them before.
This game has the best voice acting hands down. Especially some of the animals. Every line sounds great.
You will get a lot more out of it playing as an origin character. I was Fane in my first playthrough, Lohse on this one. Both very different, equally interesting characters/stories.

Act 3 complete, and I have to say I didn't enjoy it as much as the previous acts.

Act 4 awaits .. :)

Act 3 is kind of an in-between act really. I think it's ok, but probably the weakest area.

I actually think a major improvement to the game would be to add another act- Go to Arx straight after Fort Joy and give all of the companions something to do there, maybe a small new quest line. See the city in tact. That would improve the game greatly imo.

Just finished the game for a second time with a solo lone wolf on tactician. Had a few bad fights, and some frustrations, but overall, fairly straight forward. If I'd used some of the more powerful potions etc more frequently, I think I could have made it easier. Biggest issue was any fight in which I didn't go first, which whilst it didn't happen often, it did tend to be the hardest ones.

Arx is definitely a weird one. Very little direction, easy to progress down a storyline and find yourself grossly underleveled/equipped. I found using the level maps (map giving an idea of what level you should be for each area) very handy. It doesn't ruin the story, but does help you with some direction.
