You need the Pet Pal talent on one of the characters which will let you speak to animals
It's one of those talents that really adds a whole lot more to the game, but annoying that it takes up a talent slot. There is a mod on the workshop that gives you the talent for free, definitely worth having if you want to "explore" everything the game has to offer

I have never played the original Divinity and haven't really been following or interested in Divinity 2. I just watched a couple of YouTube lets play/review videos and immediately bought it on the steam store!
I think I was always put off by the thought of 'turn based' RPG but it doesn't look half as frustrating as I thought it would!
I'm guessing I should say goodbye to my life?
Just installed......
Stage 1 - try solo forget it time to re-roll
Stage 2 - Made a thief got 2 party members ---- managed to get into the cells --- Losing all fights---- Re-roll
Stage 3 - Not made the mistake as above now have 4 member party --- Third time lucky
Its quite good so far, not gripped me as much as the first one but i guess it warming up somewhat
