They say 5PM, but these things are rarely ever exactly on time.
BG is better. D:OS is obviously prettier. But ultimately shallower.
I would like to know too, as I stopped after a couple hours when I heard there was an enhanced version coming out.

I don't think they did.
More light-hearted in tone with turn-based combat. So a bit different, really.
Yea they have, actually. Quite a bit.
It's been rebalanced. Enemies have new AI behavior and skills. You have new skills. There are grenades, wands and even dual wielding. There are also new difficulty modes, and if you choose 'Tactician', enemy AI gets even more skills and abilities, smarter AI and there's even new enemies.
A lot of skills have gotten graphic updates as well.
I thought the combat remained fun and interesting throughout the original game, it's just things got easier once you were loaded up with all different types of skills. And you could also find yourself overleveled mid-to-late game because of doing things 'out of order'.
So we'll see how the rebalancing has worked out. There's always Tactician mode if you want things to remain highly challenging.

Less than hour left for me.
If you never played it the original, then yes it's worth it.
I was contemplating playing this enhanced edition, but changed my mind, the original is still to fresh in my head. Maybe in a few years if there is a time when there is nothing to play, I might install it.
