DLSS 5 preview

scubesydoo out here asking the real questions

Modders are still working on optimising DLSS 5 for AMD GPU's.

The problem they have is they don't really know how DLSS 5 works, its black box, so they are poking around in the dark with it, but they are slowly figuring it out by experimenting with it, they have already doubled FPS from what it was originally, they are very sure they can double FPS again as they learn more and with that are able to get more of it to run natively on AMD's architecture.

They think they can get it to "At least RTX 5070 level"

Thanks to modders and Nvidia's stupid pricing my next GPU could end up being a Radeon one lol.

That said, I know AMD too well. They will score a own goal again and just copy Nvidia price and knock off fifty quid or so

You're right, they do tend to do that, all things being normal..... i think they do this because while all things are normal Nvidia are not actually hugely overpriced, i mean the 4070 was about £100 more expensive than the AMD card i bough as soon as it came out but as a result of AMD launching that card at that price Nvidia dropped the price by £50 on the 4070 a couple of weeks later.
What AMD don't want to do is sell at very low or none existent margins, and certainly not at below cost, they have done this before and it didn't end well for them, it ended very badly for ATI, where are they now? It also didn't end well for Intel, where are their GPU's now and what market share did that get them?

Having said that on this day when things are a very long way from normal it is AMD who trying very much harder than Nvidia in keeping pricing very much closer to normal, Hardware Unboxed are giving AMD a lot of credit for that, the problem is they are a lone voice in that, everyone else including rather disappointingly Steve Burke (gamers Nexus) seem to be playing ignorant and stupid by still lumping them in at the same level as nvidia if not worse when its blindingly obvious AMD are doing very much more to hold GPU's as affordable as possible.

Well as I can see with their CPU's if the demand is there they'd be pretty similar to Nvidia if given half the chance.

Pretty sure you and many others for years have been saying nvidia are overpriced.

If AMD's equivalent is 50 quid or so cheaper, I might as well go Nvidia. Better features and easier to resell later. No need to **** around with mods, it just works.

Are there any mods that make older games work with FSR 4? That is one of the great things about DLSS. Copy paste latest files on quite a huge catalog of games now.

My recent GPU history.

GTX 970
GTX 1070
RTX 2070 Super

Seeing a pattern there?

I skipped the RTX 3070, same price as the 2070S i already had, (About £450) 30% faster with the same 8GB VRam, which was my main concern.
RTX 4070, £600 for one that didn't have a completely garbage cooler on it. Yes i skipped that one too....

The AMD launched the RX 7800 XT, i bought the Sapphire Pulse, everyone who knew what they are talking about looking at its PCB said its a very high quality card, very well made and stacked with the best quality components, expensive components, subsequent repair engenders have said the same thing.
Also despite its small form factor the cooler is very capable, its a Sapphire card, long time PC gamers know Sapphire are like the EVGA of AMD. £480.

Even the cheap 4070 at least £100 more with questionable build quality and cooling it was over priced, its also a little slower than the RX 7800 XT, especially now.

I will buy whatever it is that gets me the most for my £.

This "AMD copy Nvidia and then minus £50" has some truth to it but it is far from the whole truth, these are the same people who made a huge amount of negative noise about the RX 7800 XT when clearly this was yet another in a string of many attempts by AMD to provide a good solid card at an affordable price, they didn't get an ounce of acknowledgement for it, if anything some people seemed to hate the audacity of AMD yet again proving their constant rhetoric wrong.

Uses those exact talking points in this video, right on queue, completely predictable at this point and yet his own numbers from his own research......

But any form of improvement in IQ has always come with a performance penalty.

In the past we had tessellation. I'm sure that was expensive to run on current gen hardware back in the day.

Then RT etc...

Now we have neural rendering.

It's why we need faster cards and we use AI to do some of the heavy lifting.
People seem to forget the nasty ***** NVIDIA pulled with tessellation. Then again AMD must have annoyed them with truform.

While it doesn't excuse nVidia on the other hand ATI/AMD had plenty of time to develop tessellation - they demonstrated stuff with TruForm and early variants of tessellation before the hardware was there to make it feasible then sat on it when the hardware was capable of making it useful.
