Doctor Who

Can't be just me that thinks that Matt Smith didn't seem particularly happy to be leaving and was more shoved out of the door than left willingly?

kd

Can't put my finger on whether it was sadness at leaving or just generally not caring, but either way it deserved more than a recorded message where he refused to look up from his hands.

Well not to state the obvious... Its either gonna be a good direction or its gonna suck so hard it will destroy the show and let it rest a while.

I think its a return to the Ecclestone era where the show was edgier and not so clownish. Its become far too childish. I live in hope. I know i will be disappointed :P

They will have to find another [older] companion, otherwise things could get a bit creepy... in a bad way.

No - that has been a problem with the current Doctor Who.
The Doctor/Companion relationship should never have any "sexual chemistry" which has been the case in recent runs.
Having a 50yr old Doctor with a 20yr old companion should not be creepy or a problem in any way, in fact that dynamic should actually work very well.
No requirement for older companions as long as the script harks back to the old days of Doctor/Companion relationships.

As someone who has only watched new Who I don't have a problem with it but I do think it has been done with rose and there for does not need repeating.

Meh Not too fussed until I see what he's like Will let you know once I've judged the Performance however the list goes for me:

Jon Pertwee > Tom Baker > Christopher Eccleston > Then we're pretty much on an even keel for William Hartnell, Patrick Troughton, Peter Davison, Colin Baker, Michael Jayston (Valeyard), Sylvester McCoy, and Matt Smith > Paul McGann > David Tennant(I just didn't like him at all)

Verdict is still out on John Hurt and the New Guy!

Tennant was brilliant, whats wrong with you :P

Smiths first episode was fantastic, his first season really good...then it went all "love saves the day" and dive bombed.

The problem is the writers not the actors. But then maybe we/I am are just to old.
It needs to be dark very dark and gritty. But then it's a child's program.

Was there any sexual chemistry pre re-boot?... I really can't remember back to older incarnations... I can't imagine there was any, though I do remember one companion being scantily clad :D. They will certainly have to avoid this with the JLC, but I thought it worked quite well in past series, giving an added dimension to the story... I think its quite a real situation for the companion to fall for the Doctor, and vice versa.

OT of the new Doctor.
They are of course going to have some explaining to do - with a new 12th Doctor that means if Hurt is playing a "previous incarnation we haven't seen" that actually makes the new Doctor the 13th - but he can't be as he only gets to live 12 times.
So that means Hurt's Doctor will be erased from all timelines come the 50th Anniversary episode.....and/or at some point we have to get a storyline that resets or reboots the number of lives or else this becomes the 12th and final doctor.....

.....and as long as we get a good storyline that explains all that - I shall be happy :)

It is already established (with The Master I think?) there are ways of getting more regeneration cycles.

It's science fiction fantasy!!

The thread/plot can be bent, twisted, re-written, re-invented it's one of the shows great strengths. As I see it there are no hard and fast rules. Especially considering the genre where jumping back to the beginning and changing said rules isn't beyond the realms of possibility if it suits. I think Billie Piper, would have made a better "New" Dr, It's time for a big change rather than tinkering. Maybe even two shows one aimed at young fans and an adult/darker version. Sort of Dr Who meets Dexter, meets House. And it's time we had a squint at the time wars that never ever stop being banged on about. Whoooah...666 posts... it's an omen!!:)

They have done that with the sarah-jane chronicles and torchwood

Half heartedly; Torchwood could have had a really hard edge if they'd have wanted it to. It was still too much tongue in cheek for my taste. They should have made it much darker something akin to The Walking Dead, with stronger characters and a lot more menace.

I can't even fathom this.

But i know i'd like it.

LOL.. Well we all know the Dr has a much darker side, he's supposed to have committed genocide as a minimum. So he should be scary and edgy and unpredictable at times. Plus if he's over 900 years old he should at least have some intellect, insight and operate on another level to those around him. He should know some scary stuff and that should come through. Not be prancing around in a blinkin Fez ffs.
