Doctor Who

OT of the new Doctor.
They are of course going to have some explaining to do - with a new 12th Doctor that means if Hurt is playing a "previous incarnation we haven't seen" that actually makes the new Doctor the 13th - but he can't be as he only gets to live 12 times.
So that means Hurt's Doctor will be erased from all timelines come the 50th Anniversary episode.....and/or at some point we have to get a storyline that resets or reboots the number of lives or else this becomes the 12th and final doctor.....

.....and as long as we get a good storyline that explains all that - I shall be happy :)

ACTULLY

a lot of people forget that a timelords life is actually infinite and the 12 Regens was a genetic law that was imposed my Rassilon to which was also genticaly linked to Rassilon. With Rassilon gone the Regenerations could actually be endless..

And Game of thrones, fans are Thronies
Are Dr Who Fans Whookies:confused:

Until alternate discussion of events and/or facts present themselves, that's all we know.

We will likely never know although it is possible I find it highly unlikely.

I believe davies said he targeted eccestone because he liked him from when they worked on

if moffat has ever worked with the new guy then I guess it's possible I still reckon idris alba was asked first but he seems more bothered about making hollywood movies like ecclestone went on to

I've never watched the Office so i've never seen him do anything other than serious on TV. He's obviously not averse to TV seeing as Luther just did it's 3rd season but perhaps Doctor Who just isn't his type of show? He's been most successful as an actor doing what he does best IMO.. gritty.

I'd have loved to have seen him as The Doctor but hey ho.

idris alba when asked if he was interested in drwho said he wouldn't look good in a bow tie lol.

he just did pacific rim anyway so I guess he's breaking into hollywood so why would he want to do drwho? unless he was a big fan which he doesn't appear to be

I know Paterson Joseph was up for the 11th doctor and I think he would have been great.
He was favoured by Neil Gaiman (not that he would have had any kind of say in the casting).

It is a shame he never got it, we could have had something totally different, I don't mind Smith but a lot of his episodes feel like recycled Tennant scripts due to both characters having that "I'm the last of my race and I'm hopped up on crack" style of playing the character, if they'd written a Paterson Joseph Doctor more like he played the Maquis de Carabas we could/should have gotten a Doctor who was more likely to scheme and talk the monster down than <insert technobabble here> every week, something like McCoy's Doctor was evolving towards (and did in the audio series) but without the pantomime crap mixed in.

Agreed, theres no chance he would consider Doctor Who, especially in its current format - rather have him as Bond!

ps3ud0

Well not to state the obvious... Its either gonna be a good direction or its gonna suck so hard it will destroy the show and let it rest a while.

I think its a return to the Ecclestone era where the show was edgier and not so clownish. Its become far too childish. I live in hope. I know i will be disappointed :P

The problem is you also need a much bigger budget to mow it edgier and grittier IMO. You can't have colourful lights and random "fun" things in a gritty series but you can in one that is generally light hearted.

Personally I must be one of the few on this forum that liked it light hearted (but also quite dark at times) with Matt Smith. Just because there is no swearing doesn't mean it's not a good show... Go watch one of the HBO rubbish instead if you want boring serious stuff (although I like GOT).

I'm surprised he got chosen as the Doctor, then again I'm not into Dr Who at all so wouldn't have known any of the 'gossip'!

I used to like Dr Who, but all of a sudden it became like a 3 year old's program; I don't know if that was me growing up or not... But when I see some of the monsters in the episodes now they're just pathetic and I can't help but laugh, I never remembered them looking so stupid and plastic back in the early part of the century?? Also I hated Matt Smith, he made it even more like a childrens show for me

Being someone in their mid 20s and not having seen the original Dr who's the first time round you have to be joking right? The old monsters were comical at best, they really were plastic fantastic things and I'm still not sure how people were scared of them! Compared to some of the newer monsters the present Dr who looks far more adult!

What you have to remember is in those days special effects were nothing like today and the monsters from Doctor Who back then were just as scary to us kids as they are to you 20+ year olds today. Pansies :p

Since when do we need to turn Doctor Who into the wire just to make it darker? And WTF is this you need a bigger budget if you want to go more serious bull? Both are total non-issues financially, merely matters of writing.

I am not sure about Peter Capaldi. I just think they could have made a better choice. However, I will reserve judgement until I have seen the whole of the first series.

Am I the only one who thinks Steven Moffat is driving this show into the ground? It's still okay, but not as good as it was in the David Tennant days. I watched Series 2 the other day and I just think Russell T. Davies is so much better?
