Doctor Who

I must admit I don't like when a character's gender is changed, just because... Willing to give her a chance though. As above, it's in the writing. That will decide if her episodes are any good, not gender.

Was wondering with the strength of the Master/Missy storyline at the end if this was going to happen.

At least they are not ginger :)

Hoped Kris would get the role, but it's all down to the writing so I wish them well.

They were having enough problems without pandering to the PC crowd. If they wanted a female timelord, then do her own series, don't hang it on the coat-tails of the existing character, because that implies a female can't do these roles unless they have already been invented for men. If she's just going to be female without being different from the previous male characters, then what's the point? It's just pandering and they run the risk of alienating their core audience.

I think the only chance they've got at this point is to change the whole show dramatically. Be interesting to see if she put some nice curtains up in the Tardis.

I'm definitely going to be called sexist for this...

I don't think a woman suits this role. It's like James Bond being a woman just doesn't work.

With Bond I agree.

With Doctor Who, writers have been playing fast and loose with the nature of the show for years. What little canon exists is broken on a whim. The characters have chronic amnesia, with little in the way of coherent story arcs.

The show is basically nonsense. Entertaining nonsense. I don't think casting a woman to the role is uncharacteristic TBH.

Shock casting will get them the headlines and the viewers for the first couple of episodes, this is unfortunately usually a sign of a show running out of ideas on its way out.

Yes, but Michelle Gomez has said she's leaving the show along with Moffat and Capaldi.

The inference is that The Master is dead. He was so messed up, he stabbed his future self to stop "Missy" from saving The Doctor. Everything on that floor of the ship (bar The Doctor) was then destroyed.

Maybe The Master survived. Unless the show changes dramatically though, I doubt they'll tackle the issue. They'll just bring The Master back at some point with no explanation.

Well I haven't watched a single episode all the way through since Eccleston... Will give it a try when I can buy the show on disc/rent.

I haven't watched Doctor Who since the 90s with the guy in cream coat/hat, tartan scarf/brolly, him that was in the Hobbit Ratagaz? and his sidekick that had the black bomber jacket and hair strapped back.

I'm probably not going to bother watching it again with a female lead. It's principle as I've had enough of the BBC PC brigade changing things for the sake of it. Maybe I'll change my mind nearer the time but it just feels like the BBC are doing this to be "pro women" rather than completely agnostic on gender. I suspect this could be the last regeneration for a while if enough people turn away from it.

I don't care if I get critisiced for thinking that way. I've had enough of this kind of thing now.

My imaginary son has turned to me and said he will not be watching Dr Who any more as he has just lost his one male role model on television.

I told him to shut up and change into his imaginary sisters clothes.

Jodie Whittaker was the "posh" lady from attack the block and she's been in a few bit's a bobs like Black Mirror and other British TV.

She might be alright but if the writing is more like the earlier part of Peter Capaldi's tenure she probably wont have any chance, Capaldi cut a distinctive and interesting Dr out of what started as horrible weak writing, they need to up their game considerably IMHO.

Oh yes, I got that he is so insane, he decided to literally kill himself, rather than have his is next incarnation (Missy) help The Doctor. I should have worded that differently.

The Master/Missy having been killed, won't stop them bringing the character back, even if not for a while; likely with no explanation, just as Missy popped up with no explanation.

Just wondered, whether they'll go with female again..

Not that it matters of course, because the character may not return until after Whittaker has left, just as The Master wasn't used during Smith's run.
