Doctor Who

Really not seeing the problem here, she's a decent actress, as long as she gets some good scripts.

This "I'm not sexist but...." meltdown going on here and elsewhere is quite telling about a lot of folk though.

Meltdown? Funny how everyone is branded sexist if there is a tiny bit of humour. Are people really that sensitive?

Supposedly the new lead always wanted to cast a woman. This is what annoys me the most is that he has cut half of the possibilities before he even started. It seems like he's chosen a woman just for the sake of it. I suspect because the show is failing and this is the last chance to save it.

Supposedly Jodie only has a one series contact.

Funny how everything has to be political. Here was me once thinking it was supposed to be entertainment. Though one could spin that anyway.

More surprised she wasn't a wheelchair bound, feminist, transgender minority, with an assistant who had recently went through a sex change and was recently protesting for transgender toilets. Or something along those lines...:eek:
surprised it's not an ethnic minority doctor seeing as it's the bbc and how they like to represent equality by advertising jobs that white people can't apply for, or tried to one time anyway

I don't see the problem. It's not Mr Who and there don't appear to be any ties to the doctor having to be a male other than her predecessors all being male.

From the little I've seen of her she seems to be a good actress so lets all hope she knows how to drive the tardis or the series will be short lived.

so Chris Chibnall (taking over from Moffat), writer-creator of the ITV crime drama Broadchurch, employed an actor from the same show - coincidental,
do we know the other folks making the decision ? (never watched Broadchurch because I did not think much of Tenants acting abilities)

Seems odd for her to have said Whittaker, 35, said it was "overwhelming, as a feminist" to become the next Doctor.
strange thing to say, freudian, she knows she got if because she is a feminist, whatever that label means to the prinicpal viewing demographic.

As said, with good scripts (& decline of tiresome LBG agenda), can work - the acting demands for a semi child-oriented action show do not demand a Shakespearean actor
(like Tenant) or provide a similar wage ?

BBC says they want more diversity. New show lead conveniently wants a woman to be the lead. Lead hires woman he knows. Can you not see it?
I'm disputing your "a change for change's sake"

It's possibly a change for diversity's sake. It might possibly be a change for artistic vision's sake, or for publicity's sake. But they're certainly not changing just because they like change.

Well the whole objective really is chasing ratings.

And deciding to definitely stick with a man for the role wouldn't have locked out half the possibles?

It's entirely possible that they've been thinking of having a woman doctor for a long time and had people in mind for it, but not used them because they were afraid of the backlash or wanted to get the background set up for it..
It would tie in with the fact that they've made it explicitly clear over the last few years that Time Lords can change sex, with Missy/Master and another named/senior Time Lord.

Just as well. Otherwise it would be changed to "Everyone Who". :p

It's difficult to see how this will play. I'm both for and against this change. If she comes across as the typical Dr, then I think you will look past her gender and move on with the series, like whenever a new Dr comes in. There is always that dread of change at the beginning of a new series, but I guess we will have to wait and see if it's for the better or worse.
